On the desolate snowfield, Snow Bear was also anxious, hiding in the snow, daring not to move rashly. The sporadic shootings from east to west made Snow Bear realize they were surrounded. The precise gun skills forced these proud heads to bow down. In a contest between experts, one misstep led to successive mistakes. Once passive, Snow Bear found those exposed were impossible to hit and had no clue where the hidden ones lay–no chance to counterattack, leaving everyone bitterly frustrated.
The lead colonel had lost his previous arrogance and confidence, his face grim as he hunkered down in the snow, observing the front through several small holes pierced by his military knife, his gun aid in Luo Zheng's hiding direction. His brows were tightly furrowed, his eyes cold and filled with a deep worry. The enemy had revealed three shooting points but had eliminated four of his comrades, plus one more killed by traps, totaling five casualties on his side, leaving only four still alive.
A squad of ten elite Snow Bears had arrived full of vigor, not expecting that after a standoff, only four of them would remain. The first one killed could be considered underestimating the enemy, but what about the second one killed—sniped? The colonel couldn't forgive himself as his face was so grim it seed to drip with moisture. Through his headset, he ordered his n to take cover and look for an opportunity to strike.
Snow Bear was proficient in snowfield combat, which included survival skills in the snow. The colonel didn't believe the enemy could outlast his n. As long as the enemy retreated or the remaining hidden opponents revealed their positions, the colonel saw a way to organize a counterattack. If he could break out of this passive situation, he believed his brothers could definitely eliminate the enemy completely and regain their honor.
Both sides opted for silent patience, and the snow mountain was eerily quiet without any movent. The sunlight shone on the snowfield, seemingly frozen in place, unable to lt the snowflakes. The snowflakes dancing in the air resembled elves, swirling up and down, so landing on the bodies in the snow, eerily covering them up.
As ti gradually slipped away, no one dared to make a rash move. Luo Zheng, hiding behind a large rock, shivered with cold, contemplating that if things continued this way, his side would definitely be the ones to fail. Snow Bear was well-prepared, clad in thick clothing, unfazed by the harsh cold. Although his group was also well-dressed, they couldn't stand against this icy, snowy climate. It was sowhat bearable when the sun was out, but once it got dark and the temperature dropped, freezing to death was certain. What to do?
Thinking this, Luo Zheng began analyzing his side's situation. Lan Xue and Ghost Hand had yet to be exposed, but only Lan Xue was hidden in a snow cave with a sleeping bag, which could sustain him, but the rest, exposed outside without sleeping bags and unable to move, would surely freeze stiff. anwhile, the enemy, dressed warmly, didn't have these concerns. Action had to be taken quickly.
"Brother Ghost Hand, do you see any opportunity to make a move?" Luo Zheng asked in a hushed tone.
"There's a chance to strike at those exposed, but I can't find the other person's position," Ghost Hand replied.
Luo Zheng knew what this ant, thought for a mont, and then said, "You are on the slope, see how steep it is? Any chance you can roll down? How risky would it be?"
"You an let shoot the enemy and then quickly roll down the slope?" Ghost Hand asked softly, looking towards the slope. The slope was thirty-odd ters deep with a four to five-degree incline, easy to roll down, and he continued, "The slope should be fine, worth a try."
"Hold on a second," Luo Zheng quickly said in a low voice, "The bottom of the slope will definitely be all snow with no cover, and even if you roll down, there would still be danger. You'd only be able to avoid them montarily, but you'd have to move fast. Snow Leopard Brothers, is there any way to quietly circle around and provide support?"
"It will take so ti." Snow Leopard responded, ntally estimating the distance and continued, "There's a satellite above, a direct approach is definitely not feasible. Digging a tunnel through the snow might take half an hour, and we might not even end up at the ideal support point."
"Cancel the plan." Luo Zheng thought for a mont and said without hesitation, unable to issue the command to trade Ghost Hand's life for the enemy's, he continued, "Brother Mountain Eagle, is there a chance to strike?"
"Target is suspicious, not confident," Mountain Eagle replied ambiguously.
Once Luo Zheng heard this, he understood and said with a bitter smile, "It seems we have no chance to attack. The enemy has chosen to lie low. They are dressed warmly, not afraid of the cold. We are not dressed adequately and can't move; we'll freeze to death before it gets dark. We must find a way to attack proactively. Does anyone have any ideas?"
"Let do it." Ghost Hand said earnestly, "I have a chance to fire once. After taking out a sniper, I can quickly roll down the slope. The other hiding sniper might not be able to hit ."
"No, once you roll down, you'll still beco a live target, and we won't be able to deter that sniper." Luo Zheng calmly rejected the plan, glanced at the sun in the sky, and unwittingly his gaze fell on the mountain peak just a few ters away. The snow on the slope wasn't very thick. Charging up could take about four seconds. Suddenly, he got an idea; rather than waiting to die, it was better to gamble. He then whispered, "Mountain Eagle, Snow Leopard, start firing when I count to three."
"What are you planning?" Lan Xue asked in surprise.
"Don't ask, shoot at the suspected target, rember, only fire once. After shooting, hide well. Snow Leopard, rember to change your hiding spot. Xue Er, Ghost Hand, don't fire. Got it?" Luo Zheng instructed urgently.
"Understood." Everyone responded softly, filled with worry, not understanding what Luo Zheng was planning.
"One, two, three!" Luo Zheng tensed up, like a cheetah ready to pounce, prepared to run. As he counted to three, he forcefully pushed off the ground, darting forward, using his hands and feet to rapidly climb up. Almost at the sa ti, Colonel Snow Bear, locked onto a boulder, spotted Luo Zheng's figure, smirked, and prepared to fire. Suddenly, hearing gunshots, he was shocked and quickly withdrew back into the snow cave to hide.
After the gunfire ceased, the colonel found that it wasn't aid at him. Feeling certain, he quickly aid and pulled the trigger without hesitation. Just as he fired, he saw his target just crest over the hilltop, disappearing under his gun's muzzle. The bullet had just left the barrel when his face drastically changed, instantly realizing that the gunfire was purely covering fire. In those three to four seconds, the target had climbed up the slope, escaping from under his muzzle.
This outco infuriated the colonel, but it also earned his respect—a respect between strong opponents. Just three to four seconds, very precisely tid. This daring gamble was indeed comndable. A slip of foot or a miscalculation, even just a second off, would have resulted in a bloody demise right there.
