Why haven’t we reached the door yet?
It’s so unbearable...
"Hang in there, Xia Xiyan, we’re almost outside, okay?"
The boy’s pleasant voice seed to infuse Xiyan with strength.
She gritted her teeth and kept taking large strides to follow closely.
Mang Ge maneuvered around a wall and turned his head, "This way!"
The situation was becoming increasingly perilous, with fiery objects continuously tilting toward them from both sides.
A painting hanging on the wall in the corridor wobbled unsteadily before crashing down toward Xiyan’s position with the flas!
"Watch out!" Ou Jue’s eyes sharpened with a flash. His mind hadn’t yet made any decisions, but his body instinctively reacted.
He raised his arm directly, shielding Xiyan in front of him, and pushed her forward with a hand at her back. In one swift, handso move, he deflected the falling painting to the side.
Bang—
Xiyan stumbled forward, turning her head in shock to see that a terrifying burn had instantly appeared on Ou Jue’s arm where the flas had touched—it was shocking to behold.
The boy frowned, his beautiful brows knitting together as he covered his injured arm, swaying slightly in place.
It hurt.
An excruciating pain.
Xiyan scread, "Ou Jue!"
She spoke as she rushed back toward him.
Boom—!
Another blast echoed as glass shattered around them, sending flaming racks, paintings, and ornants scattering onto the ground.
The wooden floor instantly ignited with flas.
Severing Ou Jue and Xiyan completely!
No—!!
Xiyan wanted to rush back, but the path had been blocked entirely by the blazing fire!
"Don’t co over." Ou Jue clutched his injured arm, raising his obsidian-like gaze. His thin lips parted with great effort, "Get out of here."
Mang Ge turned his head back, his face filled with panic. "Ou Shao, didn’t I tell you to stay close to ? The fire is so intense; even a minor delay separated you from us!"
Now a roaring blaze stood between Ou Shao and them.
The escape route was practically impossible to traverse!
But retreating the way they ca would also be a dead end!
Ou Jue stared at Mang Ge, his tone carrying absolute authority, "Why are you standing there? Take her and go!"
"No, I won’t leave. I want to stay with you!" Xiyan stepped toward Ou Jue, attempting to return.
Beads of sweat ford densely on Ou Jue’s forehead. He kept a cold, furious gaze as he barked at Xiyan, "Try coming over, I dare you. Don’t!"
Then he looked again toward Mang Ge.
Even in such disarray, Ou Jue still appeared as if he ruled the world, "Get her out of here! Carry her out if you must!"
Now that Ou Jue had been separated by the flas, it ant he would be trapped where he stood until the fire consud him entirely.
He would die!
The painting that fell just now should’ve hit .
But Ou Jue pushed aside.
How could I possibly abandon Ou Jue and run away at a mont like this?
In this life-and-death situation, Xiyan forgot everything that had co before.
Her mind, her thoughts, were completely consud by the noble boy engulfed in flas, not far away.
She shook her head, her voice choking with emotion, "Ou Jue, don’t send away. Don’t... I want to stay with you, even if it ans dying with you."
Mang Ge gritted his teeth, turning his head to glance at the growing flas near the escape door.
If they didn’t leave soon, none of the three would make it out alive!
He grabbed Xiyan, who was struggling to return to Ou Jue, slung her over his shoulder, and dashed toward the exit.
"What are you doing? Let go! Forget about , save yourself! I need to go back for him!"
Xiyan was sobbing and shouting, twisting her body desperately.
But how could her strength possibly match that of a burly man?
Mang Ge carried Xiyan forcefully, running further and further away.
After bursting out of the old mansion, he collapsed onto the ground, gasping for breath.
The fire trucks had finally arrived.
A group of trained firefighters quickly jumped out of the vehicles.
"Is there anyone still inside?"
Mang Ge answered frantically, "Yes, on the far end of the first floor, blocked by the flas!"
However, the fire inside the mansion was already too intense. The flas raging at the doorway made it impossible for the firefighters to enter.
All they could do was slowly maneuver against the blaze.
Xiyan stared vacantly at the burning mansion, her mind completely blank.
At that mont, Mang Ge handed her a phone in a burst of excitent, "Miss Xia, it’s Ou Shao calling. He wants to talk to you!"
Ou Jue... calling?
Xiyan snapped back to reality, grabbing the phone and pressing it to her ear, "Hello? Hello?!"
On the other end of the phone ca Ou Jue’s low chuckle, "You fool."
"Ou Jue, Ou Jue..." Xiyan was crying uncontrollably.
Still trapped inside the mansion, Ou Jue held his phone, the flickering flas illuminating the sharp angles of his face. He spoke in a deep, steady tone, "Yes, I’m here."
"The firefighters are here. They’ll be able to get in soon to rescue you. Please, you have to hold on. I’m begging you, hold on..."
Hold on, huh?
Ou Jue’s gaze swept across the flas inching closer and closer, the thick smoke causing him to cough incessantly.
His breathing was already growing weaker.
It was too late.
"Xia Xiyan, listen to ."
"I’m listening!" Xiyan responded imdiately, looking at the raging fire and talking to Ou Jue through the phone, her tears pouring like a broken dam.
"The woman at the hospital... she isn’t Qiao Qianmo. Qiao Qianmo is my cousin."
"And the real her..." Ou Jue’s voice hesitated briefly, his gaze unreadable.
