Chapter 919: Chapter 919: Li Kangming’s Suspicion

Tianhe Bay Police Station.

Walking into the administrative building of the police station, Bai Wenrou went straight up to the third floor, intending to head to Deputy Director Li Kangming’s office.

When she woke up in the morning and saw the news online accusing Zheng Guofeng, she couldn’t wait to leave the house!

Bai Wenrou originally wanted to find Zheng Guofeng, but Zheng Guofeng had already been taken away for investigation by the discipline committee. She had no way to find him, nor could she know his exact location!

Moreover, even if she knew where Zheng Guofeng was, it would be impossible to see him because the discipline committee would not give her the opportunity.

Out of options, Bai Wenrou could only co to the police station to first find Deputy Director Li Kangming!

She wanted to ask about the specific details of the dinner they had the night before to see if there was any important information that might have been missed.

She walked briskly upstairs and soon arrived in front of Li Kangming’s office.

Taking a deep breath, Bai Wenrou first put her hands into her pockets, then took them out before she knocked on the office door.

“Co in!”

A voice filled with authority and strength ca through.

Bai Wenrou’s eyes flashed as she calmly pushed open the door and walked in.

“Hmm? It’s you, Wenrou.”

Upon seeing Bai Wenrou, a barely noticeable glimr flashed in Li Kangming’s eyes, and he stood up from his seat with a smile.

“Hello, Uncle Li,” Bai Wenrou nodded and greeted him.

Li Kangming said, “You’re here for Old Zheng’s matter, right? I saw the news this morning as well, and those dia people are definitely talking nonsense! Don’t I know Old Zheng’s character? I’m also trying to help him, but the effect is minimal.”

He shook his head, looking troubled: “The issue is escalating so much now that many people are avoiding it for fear of getting themselves in trouble, and no one is willing to stand up for it! Even those willing ones don’t have the ability, it’s a very tricky matter…”

“But don’t worry too much, everyone in the bureau knows who Old Zheng is, right? He told last night that if you’re upright, you have nothing to fear, and you must uphold your responsibilities and conscience! Since he’s so upright, I believe he will safely get through this difficult ti.”

Seeing Li Kangming’s earnest expression, Bai Wenrou frowned slightly and softly said, “Deputy Director Li, thank you for helping my uncle.”

After expressing her gratitude, she imdiately changed her tone: “Deputy Director Li, I actually have so questions I wanted to ask you face to face!”

“Oh? What would you like to ask? Just feel free to speak. When it cos to Old Zheng’s safety, I promise to tell the truth!”

Li Kangming said solemnly and then turned back to his seat.

He then pointed to the sofa next to him, indicating for Bai Wenrou to sit down too!

“It’s like this, Deputy Director Li, what did you and my uncle talk about when you parted ways last night? Do you still rember?”

Bai Wenrou did not sit down and directly asked Li Kangming while looking at him.

“Uh, what did we talk about? We just chatted about so past stories, family matters, and then nothing more.” Li Kangming showed a reminiscing expression.

“And after that? It’s said that you left midway, what caused that?”

“Nothing really, just sothing happened at ho, so I left.”

“What exactly happened?”

Bai Wenrou fixed her gaze on Li Kangming, relentlessly pressing the question.

“Is there a need to explain this?” Li Kangming said.

“Is there sothing you can’t say, or is it that you don’t want to talk about it, Deputy Director Li?” Bai Wenrou’s words carried a hint of questioning.

“Officer Bai, what do you an by this? Are you suspecting ?”

Li Kangming frowned, and his words carried a trace of displeasure.

“Of course not, I’m just stating facts and trying to understand more detailed information!” Bai Wenrou said earnestly.

With a slight glimr in his eyes, Li Kangming said in a calm voice, “Alright, telling you is no problem. My granddaughter fell ill last night, and I had to rush her to the hospital, so I left suddenly.”

“What illness did your granddaughter have, which hospital did you go to, what was the ward number, and which attending doctor saw her? Also, did she have similar illnesses before, and how did she recover?”

Bai Wenrou threw out a barrage of questions, clearly intending to get to the bottom of it.

“Officer Bai, don’t you feel that your questions are overstepping the boundaries now?”

Li Kangming’s expression turned cold, with none of his earlier ‘enthusiasm’.

He stood up from his office chair abruptly, staring coldly at Bai Wenrou: “What does this have to do with Old Zheng’s matter? Are you questioning like a criminal?”

“Deputy Director Li, is there a secret you can’t reveal? I only want the truth, never considered you a criminal,” Bai Wenrou said calmly.

“The truth? The so-called truth you’re talking about, is it to investigate and interrogate your superior, digging into so unrelated things, then, using your subjective assumptions, fabricate a cleverly convincing story to deceive yourself?”

Li Kangming asked sharply.

Bai Wenrou said in a firm voice, “Deputy Director Li, please do not distort the facts! I’m not interested in your family affairs, but there are too many doubts in this matter, and even you are suspected to be involved! Therefore, I must thoroughly investigate and consider everything carefully to make an accurate judgnt.”

“Hmph, smooth talk! What does this matter have to do with ? Then why don’t you go ahead and cite the suspicious points you have right now!” Li Kangming snorted coldly.

Bai Wenrou calmly analyzed, “First, there is the issue with the restaurant. There are many restaurants near our police station; why would you choose to go far and dine in such a remote place? Moreover, there’s no surveillance around! As far as I know, this restaurant has not been doing well; just half a month ago, the owner posted a notice for transferring the shop!”

“Second, you left in the middle of the al, which is quite a coincidence, because precisely when you left, sothing happened to my uncle! Furthermore, I checked the surveillance on Rongcheng West Road last night; after my uncle drove away from the restaurant, he did not head ho but drove in the opposite direction for dozens of minutes without turning around, which is very suspicious. Because the director would not possibly get confused on his way ho! So I have reason to believe that my uncle was held hostage by a suspect upon getting into the car, and at that point, the person driving might no longer have been him! And all this happened while you were not there; if it wasn’t for your departure midway, my uncle might not have been hijacked.”

“Third, and lastly, my uncle has never had such an incident in all his years of work! Strangely enough, it all happened right after having dinner with you? Considering these three points, so many coincidences combined, it’s hard not to focus suspicion on you. I think if the sa thing happened to you, Deputy Director Li, you would also feel suspicious, wouldn’t you?”

After saying this, Bai Wenrou stared directly at Li Kangming, clearly hoping he could provide her with a reasonable explanation.
