"So you’ve made up your mind to go against , is that it?" Xu Ke shoved the bank card into Mr. Song’s jacket pocket, his slender fingers rely touched Mr. Song’s clothes, yet bizarrely made him feel a chill, making the hair on his body, including his head, stand on end.
"So what if we are? Don’t think just because you have more people, you can be arrogant. Let tell you, in today’s society, it’s not about numbers, it’s about money and power. If any of you dare to touch us, especially Song, I’ll make sure none of you get out unscathed. Don’t believe ? Try it." The man pointed at Mr. Song and said.
Mr. Song originally intended to keep peace; he never wanted to escalate the matter, yet events kept pushing him toward an unwelco outco.
At this mont, bitterness coated Mr. Song’s tongue, numbness spread to its root, akin to swallowing two pounds of bitter almond, a flavor so bitter it made one want to vomit.
"Does this really need to be so serious?" Mr. Song looked at the man who followed him and said.
"What do you an not serious? His actions clearly show disrespect to you. If we don’t teach them a lesson, they’ll continue to think we’re easy targets."
Mr. Song wanted peace, but the people he brought along were headstrong and wouldn’t listen to reason. They kept using pride as an excuse, yet wanted to use Mr. Song as both a shield and a weapon, expecting him to bear all harm while also wanting him to inflict damage for them.
No one is a fool. The kind of person who uses your na to stir trouble, then when crisis hits, says they’re doing it all for you—only to throw you in harm’s way—is a type Mr. Song has faced before. But no matter how many tis he encounters it, Mr. Song can’t convince himself.
Convince himself to overlook these pains and calculations, continuing friendships with these people. Now, every second spent with them feels like an ordeal. Even breathing the sa air seems tainted by a stench that induces nausea, prompting Mr. Song to cease tolerating them.
Therefore, under the man’s observing eyes, Mr. Song did not go along with the man’s intentions to confront Xu Ke, but instead, cast a strange look at him, making the forrly exuberant man tense up, his face showing hints of unease.
"Song, what’s the matter? Why are you looking at like that?"
"I suddenly find it all very boring, very ludicrous, very aningless. Our relationship ends here. From now on, let’s consider each other strangers." Mr. Song said, closing his eyes in weariness.
"What do you an by that? Are you seriously severing ties with so many people over this person? Are you crazy or am I?" The man said, staring incredulously at Mr. Song.
Mr. Song’s background was the best among those present. Although they internally despised him for being soft, each eting brought laughs and friendly gestures, like they had the best rapport, drinking and drinking like there was no end, without any restraint on spending, because they never had to foot the bill—Mr. Song always settled it.
In a way, they were spoiled by Mr. Song, whose kindness and tolerance caused them to lose sight of their purpose, treating his generosity as a given, leading them to question Mr. Song instead, when issues arise, treating him like their scapegoat and Cloud Piercing Arrow.
"Have you forgotten the reason your families arranged for you to be beside ? I feel you’ve indeed forgotten your original intentions completely." Mr. Song stood there with a complex expression in his eyes toward the person before him.
Originally dissatisfied and grumbling, the person stood still like a statue, recalling the family’s purpose for getting close to Mr. Song.
Reflecting on how agreeable Mr. Song was previously, that any request made was never refused, during the first acceptance of Mr. Song’s kindness, he felt sowhat uneasy, but without realizing, they started taking Mr. Song’s kindness and efforts for granted.
No longer harboring gratitude or reverence for Mr. Song, there was only endless demand, like immature children, always reaching out to Mr. Song, never considering saying thanks, believing those things were rightfully given by Mr. Song.
Before today, they never considered this issue.
No! It’s not that they never considered it, but chose to ignore it intentionally, covering their own eyes and ears, pretending as if these things never happened.
When did they beco like this? Or perhaps they always were, just putting on a disguise before, now stripped away.
"Well? Have you rembered?" Mr. Song asked the silent crowd.
"Those were ages ago, you still rember?" Soone shalessly said dryly.
"Shouldn’t I rember? My heart keeps a record of how you treat , just because I don’t ntion it doesn’t an I’m oblivious, nor am I a fool, understand? I don’t speak of it because I don’t bother to, hoping to give you a chance. But turns out, for people like you, whether I give chances or not, doesn’t matter—you won’t change." Mr. Song took a long breath and said.
"I don’t enjoy taking advantage nor being taken advantage of, and all these years, the investnts in you are listed where I am. I’ll collect them with interest, and announce that from today, we’re no longer friends. Stop exploiting my na for actions. If I catch you, the consequences are unthinkable, wouldn’t want to see, would you?" Mr. Song said.
