Considering the high-stress fights Michael had gone through one after another, it was only a matter of ti until his mind forced him to rest.
Of course, the only reason he felt relaxed enough to do so was because his subconscious mind judged that the crew would be fine without him.
After an unknown amount of ti, Michael’s senses recovered. The first thing he realized was that he lay on a bed, sothing warm trailing across his features.
Slowly his eyes pried open. He wasn’t surprised to see Ruby sitting upon him. What puzzled him, however, was the fact that his torso was naked, as she seed to have caressed his body with her tongue.
Before he could ask her what she was doing, he realized that there weren’t any injuries across his body. While Nicole did heal him after the battle with the towering robot, Michael had gone through several encounters towards the capital, earning himself a few scars in the process.
So where were these wounds? Could he have been out for so long that they naturally healed?
"Michael? Are you fine?" The mont Ruby noticed he was awake, her ears pricked upwards, her tail swinging in excitent.
With a groan, he put a hand over his face.
"More or less... Though advancing too quickly to the Middle Grandmaster realm seems to have sent the spiritual energy in my body into chaos."
As the words left his mouth, his hand brushed against a jagged edge of the tal bed, tearing his skin and drawing crimson blood. For soone of his realm, such a trivial injury was only possible after rushed advancents. It was precisely why influential families never hastily strengthened their children. Power gained too quickly could carry dire consequences.
With a dejection he glanced at his bleeding finger.
However, before he could utter a complaint, Ruby gently took hold of it. Her tongue gently wrapped itself around it, covering it with her saliva.
"What are you—"
Stopping mid-sentence, Michael stared at his finger in bewildernt.
His reaction wasn’t warranted by her tender touch. It was because the wound healed right in front of his gaze, disappearing like it wasn’t ever there!
"Ruby, does your saliva... Perhaps have healing properties?"
With a beaming smile, she nodded eagerly.
"Yes! I didn’t even know myself. I only uncovered it by accident during the battle with the tal things!"
Out of all the ways Michael could have been awakened, that was the sweetest. Since Ruby was here, it was obvious that the crew was fine. Not only that, but it turned out one of their mbers had a natural affinity for healing!
"Ruby... you’re amazing!" With a chuckle, Michael sat. Softly patting her on the head.
Now it made sense why Ruby had been licking him in his slumber. It was in the hopes of him waking up sooner!
She purred, clearly content with herself. But her happiness was short-lived, her ears suddenly flattening.
"No, I am not. Even with my healing, I haven’t been able to heal your most serious injury." She stated as she licked his face.
"What, my face?" He scoffed.
"No, your mind."
"..."
It suddenly occurred to him why Ruby had been primarily licking his facial features over any other mber of the crew.
He heaved a sigh.
"I assure you, I am fine."
By the stubborn glare in Ruby’s eyes, it was clear she was not going to give up. Noticing that, Michael tactfully changed the subject.
"Can you tell how long I was out? And is everybody alright?"
Ruby tilted her head to the side.
"You have been sleeping for about three days or so. Everybody is alive and well. To be honest, they wanted to stay with you, but I assured them that it would be more beneficial if they were to help with the restoration of the capital instead."
Visible relief washed over Michael’s face. Three days was practically nothing! For a mont he had worried he had lost more than a month.
"Wait, restoration? Are the threats dealt with?"
Ruby nodded.
"Yes, they are. Once the giant robot was reported dead, most of the androids lost their will to fight. As for the aliens, they have proven to be a bigger trouble, but we managed to deal with them."
Before Michael could ask another question, the door to the room creaked open.
A handso man with long green hair and violet eyes ca into view.
"Robert!" Michael smiled. "You seem to be doing better than last ti!"
Robert chuckled. "And it’s all thanks to you. Who would have thought that, in the middle of the whole fiasco in the capital, you’d rescue ... and even bring to first aid?"
Evidently, the Lord was exhausted. With his vast reserves of spiritual energy depleted, he would need more than just three days to fully recover. Still, his face no longer looked sickly, and most of its natural shine had returned.
As the two n caught up, Michael got the answer to most of his questions.
Three days was far from enough ti to assess the damage. But it was enough to calculate at least several million casualties.
Even if the capital housed just over half a billion humans, it was still a devastating loss. With nurous households losing soone dear to them.
Surprisingly, a large number of the Lords had disappeared. So speculated that they had died, while others theorized that soone far more powerful had threatened them due to their incompetence, forcing them into hiding.
Another unexpected twist was that Livia had been praised for her efforts. Despite the high death toll, experts determined that without her tily actions and keen foresight, the number of deaths could have been more than ten tis greater.
"She also decided to start cultivating." Robert heaved a sigh. "I can’t quite figure out what led to her change of heart, as I’ve brought it up in the past. Regardless, I’ll be there to guide her on this path."
By now Ruby’s ssage about Michael being awake reached the crew.
The first one to appear was Richard.
"BOSS!" The man yelled as he practically tore the door out of its hinges.
He turned to Michael, with a nacing grin, and pointed at the communication device strapped to his wrist.
"You rember Skylar and Luis? You won’t believe it, but they recorded the fight you had with that colossal robot! You have to check this shit out!"
