Chapter 1151: Chapter 915: When the Family is Harmonious, All Goes Well_Part 2 Chapter 1151: Chapter 915: When the Family is Harmonious, All Goes Well_Part 2 This wasn’t about vying for a professional title or becoming an Outstanding Young Talent, but rather contending for the position of an Academician and the Nobel Prize.

Xiao Su was wholeheartedly supportive of Yang Ping’s work, telling him to focus on his job without worrying about her and the baby.

Having just finished a round, Director Fang called Yang Ping to invite him to the ICU to visit a patient with liver hydatid disease, who had already been admitted to the ICU due to falling into a coma from septic shock.

Xiao Su also needed to rest, she instructed Yang Ping to head ho early for dinner. Yang Ping accompanied Xiao Su across the sky bridge to the entrance of the community and then headed straight for the ICU.

The patient with liver hydatid disease was a first-year female student nad Jiang Li, only twenty years old.

She hadn’t had the chance to undergo surgery when her sepsis suddenly worsened, causing her to fall into a coma. If they forced surgery, she would likely remain on the operating table, Director Fang definitely wouldn’t let that happen. So, the patient was transferred to the ICU, and then consulted with Yang Ping.

Yang Ping arrived at the ICU where Director Fang had already been waiting. The patient’s condition was indeed poor, her blood pressure was continuously unstable; it had just risen slightly after anti-shock treatnt and then dropped again.

“The rupture of the hydatid cysts has caused a severe infection, and the infection hasn’t been brought under control yet,” introduced the attending ICU doctor.

Yang Ping looked at the CT scan, and acknowledged that it would be very difficult to suppress the sepsis by dical ans. A surgical operation was necessary to perform a liver resection, removing all the echinococcus and the infected liver tissue, including the ruptured cysts, and then performing an autotransplant of the healthy liver tissue.

“If we operate, the chances of her getting off the table are at best twenty percent,” Director Fang was aware of the stakes involved.

“The family is very proactive; their financial ans are average, but she has many brothers and sisters, and they are quite united. Her older brother ca yesterday, saying they would do their utmost. They together raised six hundred thousand yesterday and said the money would be delivered soon,” the ICU doctor reported.

Director Fang nodded, “That’s workable.”

Sotis money can indeed buy life. Not long ago, the ICU treated an elderly man with severe lung infection. Faced with a tough choice, the man’s son had to decide if they would opt for treatnt that required the use of ECMO and costly imported dications, with an expense of over two million yuan, mostly out-of-pocket. And even after spending that amount, the outco was still uncertain.

The old man’s son, after sleepless nights, was forced to give up. Coming from an ordinary family, getting two million yuan would an selling their house. But without the house, his family would face imnse financial pressures. After weighing the options multiple tis, the son had to give up on his father.

Situations like this are common in the ICU, and the doctors were no longer surprised.

“Do the family mbers understand the patient’s condition?” Director Fang asked again.

If they encountered unreasonable family mbers, and after exhausting efforts no one was saved, and then the relatives caused trouble, it would be a thankless job. Director Fang had to face these realities.

“It’s her older brother and sister-in-law who often co. They seem quite reasonable, especially the sister-in-law who seems a bit extraordinary,” replied the ICU doctor, who had many interactions with them and understood them better.

“Let’s set a ti. I’ll talk to their family personally. Right now, without surgery, there’s no hope. With surgery, there’s still a glimr of life,” Director Fang said.

“Professor Yang, what do you think?” Director Fang turned to Yang Ping.

Yang Ping was still analyzing the CT images. Hearing Director Fang’s question, he said, “Arrange the surgery as soon as possible. We don’t have any other chance.”

This young girl was lucky to have such a supportive family; the entire extended family was raising money to save her.

“There’s no chance without going to the table; on the table, there’s still a thread of hope,” said Yang Ping, pointing to the CT images.

The physician in charge at the ICU imdiately phoned the patient’s older brother, who, fortunately, was already on the hospital premises with his wife, wanting to learn about the patient’s latest condition.

After about fifteen minutes, the patient’s brother and sister-in-law appeared in the ICU’s eting room. Director Fang personally discussed with them the surgery’s details.

Director Fang was the one communicating with the patient’s brother and sister-in-law, Yang Ping and the ICU doctor listened, adding content only when necessary.

Director Fang went over the general condition of the illness.

Liver hydatid disease is a type of parasitic disease, a zoonotic parasite ailnt. It is caused by the liver tapeworm larvae residing in the liver and is also known as liver echinococcosis.

The parasites have now corroded most of the liver tissue, including surrounding tissues, having advanced upwards into the chest cavity and downwards, attacking the intestinal tract and others, and the blood vessels at the hepatic portal are also severely affected.

The cysts are now ruptured, leading to severe infections resulting in septic shock.

“Right now, surgery is the only chance to save her, but the probability of success isn’t very high, about twenty percent. To put it plainly, without surgery, there’s no hope, with surgery, there’s only a twenty percent chance. It’s possible to lose everything. I estimate the costs before and after to definitely be over one million, so we want to hear the family’s thoughts,” Director Fang, adept in negotiations, knew that nowadays, doctors needed to have so negotiation skills to survive in their field.

The patient’s brother hesitated, unable to make a quick decision.

It was his wife who was resolute, “Doctor, even if there’s only the slightest chance, please do your utmost. Don’t worry about the money; I’ve already raised sixty thousand, and I’ll make the paynt shortly. We’ll keep raising funds. I can assure you that raising two million won’t be an issue.”

This woman was quite determined; Director Fang was curious about what she did for a living, but it wasn’t the right mont to ask.
