Chapter 1538: Chapter 1042: An Inspiration

Dean Xia struggled for over an hour without success, but Director Lan resolved it in minutes. The signboard was hung perfectly straight, not too high or too low, flawlessly centered.

However, with only one signboard at the entrance and the two sides severely asymtrical, Director Lan felt extrely uneasy. As he left, he kept glancing back, unable to shake that image of the sign from his mind.

Once the sign was up, it needed to be covered with red silk cloth. In a few days, there would be an unveiling ceremony with many important figures attending. Not only would health officials from Beijing be present, but also several highly respected academicians from the dical field to show support.

“Have a few people take turns guarding it these days, and make sure no one ddles with the red silk,” Dean Xia instructed the head of security, who promptly made the arrangents.

“Should we hang all the laboratory na plates from the dical Science Academy on the other side?” Director Han suggested.

Dean Xia touched his hair: “I’ve been pondering this issue. You ntioned a large sign on the left being heavyweight. Hanging all the laboratory na plates on the right should balance it out a bit, making it look more harmonious, don’t you think?”

“Indeed!” Yang Ping nodded in agreent.

Having beco accustod to the grandeur of over a dozen naplates when entering and leaving, now with just one solitary sign, it felt rather hollow.

“Are the laboratory na plates finished, including those from Nandu dical University? Hang them all here,” Dean Xia commanded with a grand gesture.

The vice dean in charge of logistics imdiately reported, “They’re ready.”

He waved his hand, prompting the security to unload the na plates from the truck and begin hanging them one by one.

“Should I go call Director Lan again?” the graduate student asked, showing initiative.

“Go, go, quickly!” Dean Xia waved his hand dismissively.

“A little higher!”

At so point, Director Lan had already joined the crowd and now stepped forward, once more assuming the role of signboard commander.

After several hours of effort, the signboards were finally up.

Yang Ping returned to his office, washed his hands, and sat down to rest. Little Five and Zhang Lin ran in eagerly, indicating progress in their research.

“Professor, do you have a mont?” Little Five asked.

Yang Ping nodded: “Go ahead.”

“It’s a bit complicated. I contacted Tong Yongqian’s mother for information. His grandmother has passed away, which ans the gap you ntioned cannot be clarified. Without addressing this gap, the entire study lacks rigor and persuasiveness,” Little Five expressed his difficulty.

Yang Ping thought for a mont: “This indeed is an obstacle, like a missing link in the research chain.”

Strictly speaking, it’s unknown whether Tong Yongqian’s mother’s diseased X chromoso ca from her father or her mother.

“So, there’s no way?” Yang Ping asked them.

Little Five and Zhang Lin looked at each other, wondering what else could be done, as Tong Yongqian’s grandmother had passed away many years ago, making it impossible to fill this gap.

“Think again, is there any other way?” Yang Ping pressed on.

Their courage was comndable, and their curiosity led them to invest energy in pursuing unknown questions, which is the spirit needed in scientific research.

“I have an idea. Before her passing, Tong Yongqian’s grandmother must have visited the hospital. If there were pathology slices archived, we could use those for genetic research,” Little Five suggested a novel idea.

“Yes, that’s a great idea, you’re really smart,” Zhang Lin imdiately supported.

“Why complicate things? Can’t we conduct genetic sequencing on Tong Yongqian’s mother’s two X chromosos and compare them to her grandfather’s X chromoso? This way, we can identify whether the diseased X chromoso from Tong Yongqian’s mother is from her grandfather. If they match, it’s from her grandfather; if not, it’s from her grandmother,” Yang Ping enlightened them.

“Yes, why didn’t I think of that?” Little Five slapped his thigh and patted his head.

“Don’t always complicate things. Complex problems are often combinations of simple problems under certain relationships. Learn to simplify complex problems,” Yang Ping advised, seeing they were getting too tangled in their approach, and needed to be pulled back to maintain clarity.

Prompted by Little Five and Zhang Lin’s reminder, Yang Ping recalled the potential of using the Y chromoso’s solidification ability to modify the K virus, reducing its efficacy and increasing safety.

Professor Zhang Zhiwei had just participated in the unveiling and was probably still in Lu Xiaolu’s laboratory. Yang Ping called him, and sure enough, Professor Zhang hadn’t left yet. He imdiately ca to Yang Ping’s office.

“Professor Yang, is there sothing important?” Professor Zhang straight to the point.

Yang Ping said, “I recently had an idea. The Y chromoso in sex chromosos developed a chanism during evolution to shield the genes on it. This chanism ensures the stability of the genes on the Y chromoso across a lengthy genetic history. Our K virus still has an unresolved issue in the laboratory where it mutates during human body iteration, often reducing its efficacy, raising risks. I’m thinking, could we draw inspiration from the Y chromoso’s protection chanism to endow the K virus with a similar chanism, ensuring genetic stability over several generations, improving efficacy and safety?”

It took a few minutes for Professor Zhang to fully comprehend, as he pondered Yang Ping’s words.

Ingenious! Truly ingenious! I’d never thought of it.

Sotis, inspiration is the greatest gift in scientific research. When absent, it’s elusive and circles outside the door. Once seized, it opens up a whole new world.

“Right! Why hadn’t I considered the Y gene’s protection chanism?”

During his studies, Professor Zhang had learned and was aware of it but never connected it to current research.

Now it seems that Professor Yang’s unique ability in scientific research lies in occasionally sparking inspiration, often opening up a new world.

“Your idea is for us to study the Y gene’s protection chanism and transplant it onto the K virus?” Professor Zhang finally grasped Yang Ping’s aning.

Yang Ping nodded: “Yes! That’s exactly what I an. Geneticists have conducted deep research on the Y gene’s protection chanism. You could discuss it with Lin Lan. We just need to figure out how to conduct this transplantation study, linking the two areas.”

Professor Zhang’s mind cleared: “Indeed, it’s not our specialty, but for geneticists, it’s likely an essential knowledge.”

“Thank you, Professor Yang. Your few words opened up my thoughts. I guess I’ll need to visit you often in the future,” Professor Zhang laughed.

Yang Ping replied calmly: “Nothing much, just a spark of inspiration.”
