Capítulo 1837: Chapter 1287: Over 80 Clinic Visit Records (Part 2)

Director Zhao whispered to Yang Ping, “We also had a private conversation with the child’s father once. It seems the father’s concern for the child’s illness is far less intense than the mother’s, even sowhat tired and helpless. The family relationship seems sowhat tense because of the illness.”

The vague suspicion in Yang Ping’s mind gradually beca clearer, but more information and observation were needed. This is a field requiring extre caution.

“Director Zhao, Ms. Qiao, I’ve initially understood Lele’s situation. It is indeed quite special; the symptoms are subjectively noticeable, yet there’s a lack of objective evidence.” Yang Ping carefully considered his words, “This dissociation phenonon in dicine requires us to consider possibilities from a wider perspective. Apart from the organic diseases we are familiar with, so complex functional issues, and even certain rare behavioral psychological factors could also manifest similar performances. I may need so ti to more comprehensively organize all the information and may need to arrange for Lele to undergo a short-term observation here. Of course, your consent is required.”

Ms. Qiao imdiately expressed, “As long as we can find out the problem, we will do anything! We are willing to cooperate.”

Director Zhao also said, “Professor Yang, feel free to proceed, please let us know anyti if you need any information from Affiliated Hospital No. 1. Several of our old colleagues over there are waiting eagerly to hear your insights.” He blinked, his tone clearly teasing, “Old Sun even made a bet with , saying you’ll definitely be scratching your head this ti.”

Yang Ping laughed, “Director Sun is challenging . Please relay to Director Sun that if I truly find so special insights, he must lend his prized bound inaugural issue of the ‘Chinese Journal of Neurology’ to peruse for a month.”

“You also know about Director Sun’s hobby of collecting?” Director Zhao was quite surprised.

Yang Ping chuckled, “Isn’t it an open secret?”

“Haha, good! I’ll send the wager back right away!” Director Zhao was amused, “The child is entrusted to you then. Ms. Qiao, Professor Yang is a top specialist, his willingness to spend ti on in-depth observation and analysis is beneficial; you should cooperate with peace of mind.” He waved at Yang Ping, “I have other matters at the hospital, I’ll step away for now, waiting for good news!”

After sending off Director Zhao, Yang Ping arranged for Li Min to admit Lele for surgery, with the purpose of just observing. He specifically instructed to place Ms. Qiao and Lele in a room diagonally opposite the nurse station for unobtrusive observation.

Later, Yang Ping gathered Song Zimo, Xu Zhiliang, Li Min, Zhang Lin, Little Five, and other doctors for a brief internal discussion session where Li Min introduced Lele’s basic situation.

The group did not co to any clear diagnosis, but afterward, Yang Ping assigned observation duties.

Zhang Lin and Little Five were tasked with “chatting casually” with Ms. Qiao to understand family background, details before and after the child beca ill, her growth experiences, and interpersonal relationships, paying attention to the approach; Song Zimo and Xu Zhiliang were to review all test results and design so tests or inquiries; Li Min was responsible for establishing trust with Lele, interacting and observing in a relaxed manner when the mother was not present; Yang Ping himself would manage the overall situation and intervene at key points.

Observation began.

On the first day, Lele was quiet in the ward, playing with the puzzles Li Min brought. Ms. Qiao seed a bit anxious, frequently asking the nurses when a doctor would co for rounds, actively telling Zhang Lin and Little Five about how the child seed to have a headache again last night, and again taking out her symptoms diary. When Zhang Lin politely suggested so tests might need repeating or additional ones, Ms. Qiao showed unusual compliance and eagerness, even proactively suggesting, “Should we do a lumbar puncture to check cerebrospinal fluid? Or a more advanced PET-CT?”

At noon, Yang Ping asked the nurse to take Lele for a blood draw under the guise of a “routine check,” actually only a small amount was taken for routine monitoring, and requested the mother wait in the room temporarily. In the blood draw room, the nurse noticed when the needle pierced, Lele flinched slightly, but did not cry, only tightly closed his eyes. After the blood draw, the nurse gave him a candy as a reward, he quietly said, “Thank you,” and then asked, “Auntie, does my mom know I was brave?”

The nurse replied, “Of course, I will tell her.” Lele seed to breathe a sigh of relief, yet also appeared a bit disappointed.

In the afternoon, Li Min accompanied Lele in the playroom. Without the mother present, Lele spoke just slightly more, but remained cautious. Li Min asked what he liked to eat, he said “Mom’s nutritional als,” asked what he liked to play, he said “Mom’s educational toys.” When Li Min asked, “When sick and uncomfortable, who do you most wish to accompany you?” Lele paused for a mont, then quietly said, “Mom… but mom accompanies …” He didn’t finish the latter sentence.

On the second morning, when the nurse made rounds, she found traces of vomit in the trash bin beside Lele’s bed. Ms. Qiao imdiately said nervously the child vomited once at dawn, and she didn’t press the bell for fear of disturbing the doctor. The nurse examined the child, vital signs were stable, abdon was soft. Yang Ping received the report and personally went to the ward.

He gently asked Lele how he was feeling, Lele said his stomach felt a bit bloated. Yang Ping perford abdominal auscultation, bowel sounds were normal. He checked the trash bin without showing any emotion, the vomit amount was small, and its color and texture were normal. He noticed Ms. Qiao’s handbag was open, inside was a pack of opened cookies.

“Ms. Qiao, did Lele eat or drink anything special before throwing up at dawn?” Yang Ping asked.

“No… no, just drank so water.” Ms. Qiao’s eyes flickered briefly.

“There could be many reasons for the child’s vomiting. We might need to keep so vomit for testing, although it seems not problematic.” Yang Ping told the nurse, “Sample and send for testing, plus add a toxin screen.” When he said “toxin screen,” his tone was ordinary, as if talking about a routine test.

Ms. Qiao’s face changed slightly but soon returned to normal, “Test, it should indeed be thorough.”

The sample was sent away. Yang Ping didn’t leave, but sat down to continue chatting with Ms. Qiao about her past work, her acquaintance with her husband, the circumstances of Lele’s birth. Ms. Qiao gradually relaxed, talking about how she was once a biology teacher at a key middle school, highly competent, later resigned for the child. She spoke of expectations for the child, how she ticulously researched parenting knowledge, nutritional coordination, disease care, her tone full of pride yet also with a hint of “unappreciated effort,” especially complaints towards her husband and in-laws.

“I feel that I have poured all my heart into the child, but they always think I’m overdoing it, think the child isn’t sick. Sotis Lele can’t explain clearly, but I’m his mom, I can feel he is uncomfortable!” Ms. Qiao’s emotions were a bit agitated.

Yang Ping listened quietly, then asked a seemingly unrelated question, “Ms. Qiao, are your parents in good health? When you were young, were you well taken care of by them?”

Ms. Qiao was stunned for a mont, her eyes suddenly red. “I… my mom passed away when I was ten from a chronic illness, lingering for several years. At that ti, my dad was busy with work, most of the ti I was taking care of mom, going to the hospital, recording her condition, communicating with doctors… My grades were excellent, but later affected by caring for mom…” She choked, “Maybe… maybe I’m too afraid of losing family mbers. I fear Lele will end up like my mom…”

That afternoon, the toxin screen results ca back: traces of an etic were detected in the vomit, this dication was not listed on Lele’s oral dication chart. Yang Ping pondered internally, his diagnostic thoughts becoming increasingly clear.
