Capítulo 1836: Chapter 1287: Over Eighty Outpatient Records

Since the opening of Yang Ping’s outpatient clinic at the institute, it has never been idle. The number of patients is increasing, and the vast majority are referrals from other hospitals.

On Monday morning, a special pair of visitors ca to Yang Ping’s consultation room—Professor Zhao Yongchun, the director of the Pediatrics Departnt at Nandu Affiliated Hospital One, and behind him, a middle-aged woman with a worried expression, accompanied by a boy about five or six years old, whose face was sowhat pale.

“Professor Yang, sorry to bother you!” Professor Zhao adjusted his glasses, a helpless smile on his face, “This is Ms. Qiao and her son Lele. Lele’s situation… He’s been back and forth at our place for almost half a year. Various tests were run, but we couldn’t figure out what’s wrong. A few of us older ones had a eting and thought ‘why not send him to Professor Yang? Maybe he could see sothing we couldn’t.’ So I ca brazingly with them.”

Professor Zhao is indeed responsible, even personally bringing the patient over, which could have been settled with just a phone call.

Yang Ping stood up to greet them and let them sit down. His eyes briefly rested on Lele. The child was very quiet, hiding behind his mother, his eyes sowhat evasive, unlike typical sick children who are irritable or clingy. Instead, he had an excessive sense of being well-behaved.

“Director Zhao, you’re too kind. The Pediatrics Departnt at Nandu Affiliated Hospital One is top-notch in South China and one of the best in the country. If you all find it tricky, it must be a tough case.” Yang Ping smiled and instructed Li Min to pour water, “What’s the specific situation?”

Ms. Qiao sighed before she spoke, taking out a bulging folder from a large plastic bag she carried, filled with lab test results, examination reports, dical records, and even her handwritten symptom observation diary, detailed enough to leave one speechless.

This child’s dical record counts over eighty visits, almost fifty of which are at Nandu Affiliated Hospital One.

“Professor Yang, take a look, the child is really suffering.” Ms. Qiao spoke quickly, with a sense of anxious urgency, “Since he was over three years old, he’s been complaining about this discomfort and that. It first started with stomach pain, intermittent, and when it hurt, his little face turned pale, but as soon as we got to the hospital, nothing showed up on the X-rays or ultrasounds. Later he complained of dizziness, sotis saying it went black in front of his eyes. We were afraid sothing was wrong with his brain, so we did two MRIs—normal! We’ve drawn countless tubes of blood, checked immune, tabolic, allergy… everything possible has been checked, and all indicators are within normal range.”

As she spoke, she skillfully flipped through the corresponding reports to show Yang Ping. Director Zhao added alongside, his tone filled with confusion, “Indeed. We’ve even had joint consultations with neurology, gastroenterology, and rheumatology departnts. Vital signs, physical examination, aside from the kid being a bit tense and timid due to repeated dical visits, we really couldn’t find any positive signs. All kinds of tests, including so pretty expensive genetic testing and special tabolic screening, ca back negative.”

“In the past six months, it seems like he has more symptoms.” Ms. Qiao continued, her brows tightly knitted, “Sotis he says his arms and legs are weak, he falls while walking; sotis he says his skin itches, and when he scratches, it turns red; other tis he has a low fever, but it never exceeds 38 degrees, and it goes away by itself. Last month, he complained of buzzing in his ears, but hearing tests were fine. Our whole family is almost driven mad, work is affected, we’ve spent a considerable amount of money, but we just can’t find the root cause. So people say it might be psychological issues, but a kid this young…”

Yang Ping listened quietly, his gaze moving between Ms. Qiao and the child. He gestured for Ms. Qiao to wait a mont and gently addressed Lele, “Lele, can you tell Uncle where it hurts?”

Lele raised his head, glanced at his mother, and then said softly, “My stomach hurts a little.” His voice was thin and weak.

“How does it hurt? Can you point to Uncle where it hurts?” Yang Ping asked.

Lele placed his hand around his navel, “It hurts vaguely here.”

Ms. Qiao imdiately interjected, “He describes the pain unclearly like this, and the position is not fixed, sotis it’s upper, sotis lower.”

Yang Ping nodded, smiling at Lele, “Lele, you’re very brave. Uncle is going to press your tummy lightly, tell where it hurts the most, okay?” He had Lele lie on the examination bed and conducted a gentle and slow abdominal palpation. Lele was very cooperative throughout the process, but Yang Ping noticed that when his hand applied pressure, Lele’s expression didn’t change significantly, and there wasn’t the expected muscle defensive tension. He had Lele lie down to carefully check the child’s skin, lymph nodes, joints, listened to his heart and lungs, and did a simple neurological screening.

Just as Director Zhao had ntioned, aside from the child being slightly thin and pale, no signs of any organic abnormalities were found.

“How’s Lele’s appetite usually? Is his bowel movent regular?” Yang Ping asked.

“His appetite is variable, he’s a picky eater.” Ms. Qiao replied, “Bowels are sotis dry, sotis loose, irregular.”

“What about sleep?”

“He doesn’t sleep soundly, wakes up easily.”

“When do these symptoms generally occur more? At ho? At school? Or on the way to the hospital?” Yang Ping’s questions beca more detailed.

Ms. Qiao thought for a mont, “It seems… more at ho. Especially on weekends or when I’m at ho with him, the kindergarten teachers say he’s fine during the day.”

Yang Ping was thoughtful and asked again, “Since Lele got sick, who primarily takes care of him?”

“Mainly .” Ms. Qiao said without hesitation, “His dad is busy with work and often travels. His grandparents are old, and besides, they always feel the child isn’t really sick, that I’m too anxious.” At this point, Ms. Qiao’s tone turned a bit resentful and agitated, “He’s my flesh and blood, how can I not be anxious when he’s uncomfortable? Every ti he ntions feeling unwell, I get anxious, quickly researching information and taking him to the hospital. For him, I’ve resigned from my job.”
