Now reading: Chapter 1840 - 1288: The True Patient (Part 3) from Surgery Godfather, a Fantasy novel by Ocean And Summer.

But in the legal and ethical review process, a new issue erged: as the preliminary treatnt institution, does the Affiliated Hospital No. 1 need to bear so responsibility for failing to discover the problem earlier? Was there any harm that could have been discovered during Lele’s ti at Affiliated Hospital No. 1?

Yang Ping proposed to hold a joint ethics eting between the two hospitals, during which he insisted on one viewpoint: "dicine is a process of constant cognition. Two years ago, without clear indicators, no hospital could perform poisoning screening or monitoring on a devoted mother. The team at Affiliated Hospital No. 1 conducted standard diagnostics conforming to the knowledge level of that ti. Our current ability to identify the problem is because we stand on the solid work done by Affiliated Hospital No. 1 over the past two years and have adopted different observation perspectives and collaborative models."

Ultimately, the two hospitals’ ethics committees reached a consensus: this is a problem of limitations in dical cognition and treatnt models, rather than dical negligence. The joint statent emphasized that the resolution of this case demonstrated the importance of cross-hospital collaboration and multidisciplinary integration in modern dicine.

A week later, Lele was discharged from the hospital. When his father ca to pick him up, the child showed a long-lost relaxed smile on his face. Ms. Qiao’s psychological therapy also officially began, with Professor Chen providing therapy sessions twice a week, and Director Zhao occasionally following up by phone. This exceeded the usual duties of a pediatrician, but he said, "This case taught that sotis a doctor’s mindset needs to cross the boundaries of specialization."

Director Sun indeed brought along that set of precious bound volus and rare books, "As promised, I’ll lend them to you for two months." He shook Yang Ping’s hand vigorously, "But I think our cooperation between the two houses might last more than two months."

Director Zhao felt even more deeply, "Professor Yang, thank you. Not just for Lele’s case, but for personally, this case prompted a lot of reflection. Our Affiliated Hospital No. 1 has the best experts and the most advanced equipnt, but sotis precisely because of this excellence, we fall into professional arrogance and overlook the potential for interdisciplinary collaboration. Referring Lele to you was the best decision I’ve made this year."

Yang Ping returned to the office, where Song Zimo was organizing the complete case files for Lele. The files have now grown imnsely thick — including all records from Affiliated Hospital No. 1 over two years and Sanbo over a few days, as well as the discussion records of the multidisciplinary teams from both hospitals.

"This could make a great case study," Song Zimo said. "Not only about Proxy Munchausen syndro but also about dical collaboration, dical ethics, and humanistic care."

Zhang Lin raised his head and asked, "Professor Yang, do you think Director Zhao had basically determined this direction when he referred the case?"

Yang Ping pondered for a mont: "I think he had a strong suspicion but lacked evidence and a support system to handle such cases. He might have done it out of prudence."

A month later, Lele’s father sent a photo — the child had won third place in a jump rope competition at the school sports et, grinning brightly. Ms. Qiao’s therapy progress was slow, but she was starting to confront her issues.

PS: This is a case on DXY, so readers might have already seen this case. Proxy Munchausen syndro, I only saw it once in a book before I saw this case on DXY, so I feel grateful to the doctors who shared the case. This is the first reported case in mainland China, so I’m writing about it as part of daily life. Why is this illness so rare? There are two reasons: firstly, the disease itself is rare, and secondly, we generally neglect psychology and psychotherapy, so many psychological issues remain hidden inside and are not brought forth to see a doctor, which is influenced by traditional culture. Thank you all.
