Fauna:
"What is this disrespect? You accepted my daughter without my permission?" my father shouted.
By then, it was already too late. Not just because Haiden had accepted , but because I had heard everything.
He had not co to save . He had co to reject .
That realization numbed my mind.
"You do not get to decide what I do," Haiden replied sharply.
Ian stepped closer and stood beside .
"Are you okay?" he asked gently.
I nodded, even though I was not okay at all. My body was bruised, and my heart was shattered.
"It is all right now. No one will hurt you," the Headmaster said as he stood beside his son.
"Oh really? Then leave. I do not want to see your faces right now," my father shouted loudly enough to make my body tremble.
But I noticed sothing. My father’s shouting rarely affected other n. He could only unleash his anger on , my sister, and my mother. It never worked the sa way on n.
"We are not here to stay," Haiden said calmly. "But rember this. I will co back. This is only the beginning. I will take my pack back from you."
As soon as he said that, he stepped toward and took my hand.
"Let’s go," he told Ian and the Headmaster.
My eyes remained fixed on my mother and my sister. I knew I had to leave.
They could not leave with . Taking the Alpha’s wife or daughter without his permission would have been considered a grave offense.
But Haiden had just declared he would return for the crown. That ant my father would not be able to hold them hostage for long.
My body suddenly weakened. Haiden caught quickly and pulled into his arms to support .
After everything I had endured that night, the mont I realized I could finally let go, my body gave in. I blacked out.
When I woke up again, I was in a car. It felt like they had been driving for a long ti and had stopped for a break.
"Fauna, are you okay?" Ian asked. He was the first to notice I was awake. He was standing outside the car.
It looked like they had been eating. Maybe it was their break ti.
As soon as he spoke, everyone looked into the car.
I slowly stepped out.
The mont I saw Haiden, he looked away.
I understood then. He had not accepted willingly. He had simply had no other choice.
"Are you feeling better?" the Headmaster asked, pulling out of my thoughts.
"Yes. I am feeling much better," I replied politely.
Then Haiden turned toward as if he wanted to say sothing. He looked like he was preparing himself to ask a question.
But I cut him off and turned to Ian instead.
"Has Clentine been found yet?" I asked, completely ignoring Haiden.
"No, not yet. We are still looking for her. Hopefully we will find her soon," Ian replied in a broken voice.
"You tell . You said you could sohow find out Nook’s address," Haiden stepped in front of suddenly, trying to speak to directly.
I turned toward him for a second, then turned away again. I looked back at Ian instead.
"So tell what you want. I will help you completely," I said to Ian, ignoring Haiden.
I saw the way Haiden started staring at . He placed his hands on his hips and narrowed his eyes, as if waiting for to give him attention.
"I know the man who has the records is coming back today. I also know which road he will be using," I said calmly.
As soon as I shared that information, I saw relief and excitent flash across their faces.
"That is good. Then we head there," Haiden said, clapping his hands once in excitent.
I turned my face away from him again.
The Headmaster and Ian seed to notice. I saw them exchange a look, silently communicating about Haiden.
I did not know why Haiden suddenly wanted to talk to . Maybe he wanted to play the hero by finding Clentine.
At that point, I did not care anymore.
It was not that I had completely erased him from my heart, but my heart had shattered the mont I learned he had co to reject .
Before that, I had convinced myself that he rejected out of anger, that he was only denying whatever feelings he had for .
But when I found out he had truly co to reject , I realized how foolish I had been.
He had never felt anything for . Even now, I was nothing more than a burden forced onto him.
"Fine, but before that, Fauna will have to transition. Her wounds are serious," Ian said, pointing toward .
"Then I will take her into the woods. We will transition and et you back on the road shortly," Haiden replied quickly, stepping forward as if expecting to follow him.
"I will go with the Headmaster," I said firmly. "I have never worked with him before. I think he will guide better through the pain. My wounds are deep, and I will need patience during the transition."
I did not look at Haiden once as I declined his offer and chose the Headmaster instead.
"Wait a minute. I think since she is my wife, I should be the one going with her," Haiden said, his voice edged with anger.
I turned toward him slowly and t his eyes with a challenging look.
"I do not think this is the right ti to discuss what I am to you or what I am not," I replied evenly.
"And whatever mark we carry does not need to be taken seriously right now." I paused.
"With that being said, I do not want to waste ti. We do not know what condition Clentine is in. If we delay any longer, that man will pass that road, and after that, I will not be able to help."
I answered him harshly.
Haiden glanced at Ian, almost as if asking for support, then looked at the Headmaster.
"She is right," the Headmaster said calmly. "It is her choice who she wants beside her during the transition."
There was a faint frown on Haiden’s face when he heard that.
I knew he was being challenged, perhaps even mocked by the situation.
But it did not matter to .
If he felt irritated, it was justified.
