Because they were only out to find dicinal herbs this ti, the group made sure to avoid the territories of Fierce Beasts.
The System was actually helpful for once. By following its guidance on where the herbs grew, they finally managed to gather everything they needed before dark.
But they had traveled too far, and it seed they wouldn’t be able to make it back to their cave that night.
"We’ll rest here for the night."
A burly Bear Beast lay at the Beastn’s feet.
The cave behind them was pitch-black. As the group entered, they all frowned in unison.
The sll inside the Bear Beast’s cave was truly awful. A thick, musky stench continuously assaulted their nostrils, so much so that even Wu Yue, whose sense of sll wasn’t particularly sensitive, found it hard to bear.
"Damn! It stinks so bad in here, I think I’m gonna suffocate."
Teng Qian was the first to complain, his brow furrowed so deeply you could trap a fly in the creases.
The cave wasn’t very deep. A few of the Beastn cleared out the leftover skeletons and other trash from the Bear Beast’s als. Then, Teng Qian, of all people, diligently went out, pulled up a large handful of grass, and spread it across the clean ground.
Then, to the utter astonishnt of the other Beastn, he untied a Beast Skin from his own body and laid it on top.
In an instant, a surprisingly well-made nest of grass appeared.
"Hey, Teng Qian, since when do you care about things like this?"
one of the Beastn asked in confusion.
Whenever they went out hunting in the past, they would all just find any old spot to sleep.
Teng Qian gave a sheepish grin and, under everyone’s curious gazes, walked straight over to Wu Yue. "Wu Yue, I’ve finished making the bed. It’s not dry grass, but I put a clean Beast Skin on top, so it’s really soft."
His eyes were full of a desire to please her.
’Of course he was trying to suck up to her!’
’Heaven only knew how many tis he had ssed up in front of the witch in the past.’
Wu Yue naturally saw through his little sche and said with an amused smile, "You really don’t have to do all this. I’m not a petty person."
’When you get petty, you’re not even human,’ the System chid in at the perfect mont to twist the knife.
In her mind, Wu Yue secretly gave the System a one-star review.
Teng Qian’s expression instantly turned serious. "Of course I know you’re not that kind of person. I’m only being nice to you because I want to, not because I have any ulterior motives, hehe."
The tall, sturdy Beastman was wringing his hands, his fawning expression practically screaming to Wu Yue that he had no ulterior motives whatsoever.
’What ulterior motives could a simple Beastman possibly have?’
’He just doesn’t want you to hold his past mistakes against him. Best to see it but not say it, and everyone can stay friends.’
Wu Yue nodded with a bright smile. "Well, thank you very much then."
With that, she walked over with her small basket still on her back and sat down on the soft, makeshift bed.
’She had to admit, even though the Beastman was a bit of a doofus, the bed he’d made was actually quite comfortable.’
Just then, the Beastn who had gone outside to prepare their kill walked back in.
Yuan Lang, who was at the head of the group, imdiately spotted the familiar Beast Skin beneath Wu Yue, and his dark eyes narrowed slightly.
He was holding several crisp, tender-looking fruits that, surprisingly, still had dewdrops on them.
The other Beastn in the cave had already gone out to eat. Their nerves had been on edge all day, and they were eager to eat and get so rest.
Yuan Lang walked over to Wu Yue’s side and handed her the fruit. "I just picked these in the forest. They’re very sweet."
Wu Yue reached out and took them. "Thank you."
The Beastman nodded and stood up as if to leave the cave, but then he suddenly turned back.
Wu Yue only ca to her senses after the nest of grass beneath her was thickened once more, and the Beast Skin Teng Qian had laid down was tossed by the Beastman to the foot of the nest.
