"I’m back! Finally back!" An Hao murmured to herself as she bolted down the stairs.
The sound of her shoes against the wooden staircase startled Zhang Yun.
She quickly poked her head out of the room, and upon seeing An Hao rushing downstairs, she imdiately understood what was happening.
"Is it Qin Jian that’s found...?"
"He’s right at the door!" An Hao said excitedly.
"My son! My son!" Zhang Yun nearly cried out, "He’s finally back."
An Hao burst out of the door, and there stood Qin Jian, leaning on his crutches.
It had been so long since she’d seen him, it felt like centuries had passed.
He had lost weight, looked haggard, with stubble on his chin, and appeared much more world-weary.
He was severely injured, one leg was in a cast, and beneath his collar, you could still see the marks and scars from where rocks had scraped his neck.
Tears welled up in An Hao’s eyes, and eventually stread down her cheeks.
"An Hao! My wife!" Qin Jian croaked, his dry lips forming the words before he slowly opened his arms to her.
"Qin Jian!" An Hao cried out excitedly and suddenly stepped forward to embrace him.
"Uh..." Qin Jian grunted in pain as his chest was jolted, unable to suppress a groan.
"Does it hurt?" An Hao’s tears fell silently as she reached to unbutton his shirt, "Let see!"
Qin Jian grasped her wrist and shook his head, "Don’t look."
"It’s serious, isn’t it?" She could tell from his expression.
Qin Jian slowly smiled and lifted his hand to tidy her hair at the forehead, "An Hao, smile for . I want to see your smile!"
An Hao wiped her tears and blossod into a radiant smile.
Qin Jian smiled, "That’s better..."
Before he could finish his sentence, he felt a weight on his neck, and a soft, warm touch on his lips – An Hao deeply kissed him.
Qin Jian’s eyes widened, he felt An Hao’s urgency, her lips pressing fiercely against his, her warm tears slipping into their mouths.
Slightly salty, bitter, with a hint of sweetness.
For the first ti, Qin Jian realized tears could taste of so many flavors.
He raised his hands to cradle An Hao’s face and kissed her back with fervor.
Their passionate, oblivious kiss made Zhang Yun turn away, embarrassed.
Zhao Dong, arms crossed, leaned against the car, watching the scene with interest.
He couldn’t help but inwardly marvel at how formidable the commander’s wife was.
He had seen many military spouses, but An Hao was truly one of a kind.
Not the slightest bit coy, she was refreshingly straightforward, expressing her love for the man she adored without reservation.
Such a woman had character; he aspired to find soone like her.
After a long kiss, they finally separated.
There was no single thought in their eyes, only endless yearning and devotion.
"You’re back, that’s wonderful! You promised you’d never leave again!" An Hao said to him, slowly.
"Never again. I won’t leave you for the rest of my life."
Qin Jian held her tightly.
Once the son and daughter-in-law had their mont, Zhang Yun turned and ca over, her eyes brimming with tears as she looked at Qin Jian, "It’s good that you’re back! It’s good that you’re back!"
That evening, Ning Yibin returned from the military, and the family was finally reunited, enjoying a lively dinner together.
They had not been together on New Year’s Eve, but now they were finally united!
The dark clouds that had lingered over the family began to slowly disperse...
