Anna was genuinely stunned by Lorze's deadpan yet inexplicably absolute confidence. Could you at least pretend to be a little humble? How the hell am I supposed to respond to that?!
Anna gave Lorze a few strange looks, trying to figure out if he was deliberately fucking with her.
But no matter how she looked at it, this guy seed dead serious. It looked like the only thing in his eyes was the Champion's throne, and he didn't give a single shit about anything else.
Anna couldn't help but mutter internally: It's just a basic rookie tournant. Winning it isn't even that big of a deal, is it really worth being this serious?
However, she kept up her usual playful tone and said, "Hehe, you've certainly got a lot of confidence! Then I'll be eagerly waiting to see what you can do! Anyway, I gotta run, my match is starting soon. Make sure you keep your eyes glued to Big Sis~"
As the battle on Field 2 concluded, the loudspeakers quickly instructed the next pair of competitors to enter the arena.
Hearing her number called, Anna—who had just proclaid herself 'Big Sis'—smirked, raising an eyebrow at Lorze with a deeply suggestive look.
Seeing that expression, Xue Yi instantly knew exactly what her bestie was plotting.
She probably got a little pissed off by Lorze's overwhelmingly arrogant declaration just now and wanted to teach him a brutal lesson, right?
Don't be fooled by Anna's previous humble act of 'not having the confidence to face a tournant favorite'. Xue Yi knew the truth perfectly well: anyone who actually believed her bestie's bullshit was going to get beaten into a complete fucking stupor.
Anna's Pikachu was absolutely not a newborn Pokémon. Back when it was still a Pichu, it had already been Anna's companion for several years, essentially acting as one of her playmates at the research institute. Their bond was incredibly tight.
Moreover, on the very next day after Anna officially registered it as her Starter Pokémon, the Pichu inexplicably evolved into a Pikachu.
In other words, this was a Pokémon that had been cultivated for years and had already undergone its first stage of evolution. To Trainers who were still genuinely in their rookie phase, it was an absolute, unstoppable nightmare.
In Anna's eyes, Lorze was obviously just a slightly hardworking, completely ordinary Trainer. What right did you have to act so fucking arrogant in front of ?
Xue Yi didn't expect Anna to have such a childishly competitive side, but it ant she was about to witness a highly entertaining show. Coming here today wasn't a waste after all.
Of course, if she could actually pry Lorze's mouth open and extract the Umbreon intel from his brain, that would make the trip truly worthwhile.
Thus, watching her ddleso bestie walk away, Xue Yi imdiately resud plotting how to extract the information.
Pretending like nothing happened, she sidled up next to Lorze, leaning against the railing with him, and casually asked, "So, about Umbreon..."
"Quiet. Focus on the match. Didn't you hear just promise Anna that I'd keep a close eye on her?" Lorze imdiately shut her down.
Also, what kind of half-assed 'casual' approach was that?
Please, if you're going to act, at least take so acting lessons from your bestie first!
If that fails, go learn from her Pikachu. That Pikachu is a literal Oscar-winning actor. Can you believe a level 100 Pikachu actually jobbed and lost to a rookie's Snivy?!
Xue Yi opened her mouth to argue, but looking down at her best friend who had already entered the arena, she could only obediently shut up.
Fine! I'll give Anna face for now. Let's see what kind of bullshit excuses you co up with after she's done fighting. It won't take long anyway.
Xue Yi was absolutely right about that. The match was a completely one-sided slaughter, ending entirely too fast.
After both competitors took their positions, the referee imdiately announced the start of the match. Anna recalled her Pikachu into its Poké Ball, then imdiately released it again.
The reason she had to perform this seemingly redundant action was due to tournant regulations.
Poké Balls had the function of resetting a Pokémon's buffing effects. To prevent competitors from secretly stacking insane buffs outside the arena before entering, the step of recalling them into the ball was strictly mandatory.
When both sides threw their Poké Balls and the yellow Pikachu materialized across from the opponent's Paras, the opposing Trainer's face instantly turned pitch black.
It was actually an evolved Pokémon?! Was his luck really this fucking garbage?
Even though Paras's Grass typing technically resisted Pikachu's Electric typing, the massive gap in base stats was insurmountable. Besides, who the hell told you Pikachu only knew Electric-type moves?
He had to strike first. His only path to victory relied on the move 'Spore'. If he could successfully land it on Pikachu and force it into the sleep status, cheesing a dirty win wasn't entirely impossible.
"Paras, use Spor—"
"Quick Attack."
Before the opposing Trainer could even finish screaming his command, Anna—who was already fully prepared to instantly execute her opponent—struck first.
In the gas, Quick Attack was a priority move that guaranteed you struck first. While reality wasn't a turn-based ga and "guaranteed first strike" didn't technically exist, this perfectly illustrated just how blindingly fast the move was.
The opposing Trainer, who hadn't even finished barking his order, only saw a zigzagging flash of white light before the yellow electric rat instantly materialized right in front of Paras's face.
"Pika!"
Pikachu viciously slamd into Paras. Completely ignoring whatever Ability the Paras had, the sheer kinetic force violently launched it into the air, sending it crashing tragically into the arena wall, instantly knocking it unconscious.
The opposing Trainer's jaw dropped, completely unable to comprehend Pikachu's speed. That was literally faster than the ti it took him to shout a command! Tell , how the fuck are you supposed to fight that?!
"Paras is unable to battle. The winner is Pikachu!"
Even after the referee emotionlessly announced the result, the competitors in the spectator stands were still staring in stunned, dead silence.
Actually, that Paras Trainer's skills were pretty solid; he had already won a match before this. Paras's 'Effect Spore' Ability combined with the 'Spore' move could easily force an opponent into deep sleep. It was an incredibly dirty, highly effective tactical setup.
Many people had considered that Paras to be a massive headache to deal with. And now you're telling it just got instantly one-shot?!
As expected of an evolved Pokémon. It was on a completely different tier of combat power. They could only pray they wouldn't have the horrible misfortune of drawing that woman as an opponent.
Anna completely ignored the terrified, heavy gazes of the other competitors. Instead, she shot a highly smug, triumphant look toward Lorze. She desperately wanted to know exactly what was going through his head right now. Was he completely terrified too?
If this scared you, you're not cut out for this. If you want to win the tournant, you'll have to beat opponents on my level. Can you do it, little bro?
Anna quickly recalled her Pikachu, then sauntered back up to the spectator stands with a playful smirk. Under the intense stares of the crowd, she walked right back to Lorze's side, which inevitably drew even more attention to him.
After all, being tightly sandwiched between two drop-dead gorgeous beauties, it was practically impossible for him not to draw massive aggro.
"Well, classmate Lorze? Judging from your perspective as the absolute 'guaranteed' Champion, was Big Sis's match at least sowhat watchable?" Anna's tone was unmistakably provocative.
However, Lorze's expression remained completely unfazed. He rely replied with two words: "Not bad."
Anna raised an eyebrow. "Just 'not bad'?"
"As an evolved Pokémon, completely obliterating a newborn is the absolute bare-minimum expected result. Moreover, Pikachu didn't even exert its full power. Aside from saying 'not bad', how else am I supposed to evaluate it?" Lorze shrugged.
"Well, when you put it that way..." Anna was montarily speechless.
Even though Lorze's logic was completely sound, why did she still feel like she was being deeply looked down upon?
Hey, what kind of insanely overpowered Pokémon do you have to dare look down on my Pikachu?!
Now that she thought about it, didn't Xue Yi ntion it before? Was his Starter actually a Gamble Fish (Feebas)?!
A asly Gamble Fish!
Believe it or not, my Pikachu could vaporize that ugly fish with a single Thunder Shock!
"Alright, alright. Getting a 'not bad' out of his mouth is already a miracle. Now then, classmate Lorze, since Anna's match is over, isn't it ti we seriously discussed our business?" Xue Yi imdiately interrupted her bestie. She absolutely could not let Anna hijack the conversation again; she was determined to extract the Umbreon intel today!
"Not discussing it." Lorze decisively rejected her.
"That wasn't what you promised !" Xue Yi flared up in anger.
"I didn't want to, but my match is coming up soon. I can't just skip it, that'd be rude, right?"
"You—!"
"Alright, if you want to talk, wait until my match is over. I'm heading down."
Without waiting for Xue Yi to finish, Lorze just waved goodbye and walked off, leaving Xue Yi furiously stomping her feet in anger!
Fine... FINE!
I'll wait for you a little longer! It won't take long anyway. With your pathetic Gamble Fish, you'll be instantly one-shot in minutes!
When you co crawling back as a loser, I'd love to see what kind of bullshit excuses you have left!
