Not a question. A statent delivered with the careful neutrality of soone testing boundaries.

Eve t her gaze steadily. "Thank you. The bond was completed last night."

"The power surge we detected," Isadora said, understanding settling into her expression. "That was the bond activation. A triple bonding, from the magnitude of it."

"Yes."

Isadora sat back slightly, her posture relaxing from formal to genuinely conversational. "That explains much. And it’s...." She paused, seeming to choose her words carefully. "....it’s quite remarkable, actually. Triple bondings are rare. Triple bondings that fully activate with that degree of power are extraordinarily rare."

"I’m learning that," Eve said.

"It will serve you well," Isadora continued. "The Court respects strength, and a fully activated triple bond is undeniable evidence of strength. Of compatibility. Of genuine connection rather than political arrangent."

She leaned forward slightly. "Which brings to the purpose of my visit. Lady Seraphine asked to convey the Traditional faction’s official position regarding your claim to the Seraphim throne."

Eve felt the mont shift.....from pleasantries to substance, from social to political. She kept her expression attentive and open, giving nothing away.

"The Traditional faction," Isadora said clearly, "believes that the Seraphim throne should be occupied by legitimate Seraphim heirs. We believe the coup that removed your parents was illegal and unjust. We believe you have the right...the obligation, even...to reclaim your heritage and restore legitimate rule to the Court."

She paused, letting that land.

"Therefore," she continued, "Lady Seraphine offers the Traditional faction’s full support for your claim. Political backing, diplomatic assistance, resources for the transition period, and protection against those who would oppose your ascension."

It was everything Eve could have hoped for....a powerful faction offering complete support without apparent conditions.

Which ant, Raphael’s training whispered in her mind, that the conditions were implied rather than stated. The obligations hidden in the generous offer.

"That’s very generous," Eve said carefully. "May I ask what Lady Seraphine would expect in return for this support?"

Isadora’s expression showed approval...the look of soone pleased that their opponent had seen the ga being played. "Direct," she said. "I appreciate that."

She set her teacup down with deliberate care. "Lady Seraphine asks for three things. First....formal acknowledgnt that the Traditional faction was your earliest and strongest supporter. This establishes our position at Court, our influence in the new regi."

Eve nodded slowly. That was reasonable...political capital in exchange for political support.

"Second," Isadora continued, "she asks that you consult with the Traditional faction on major policy decisions. Not that you follow our counsel automatically, but that you hear it before making choices that affect the Court’s direction."

Also reasonable, if dangerously close to the ’power behind the throne’ dynamic Raphael had warned about. "Consult, but final decisions remain mine," Eve said, making the boundary clear.

"Of course," Isadora agreed easily. "Lady Seraphine would never presu to override a sitting queen’s judgnt."

The phrasing was perfect...acknowledging Eve’s ultimate authority while still positioning Seraphine as primary advisor.

"And third?" Eve prompted.

Isadora t her eyes steadily. "She asks that you consider carefully before making alliances with factions whose goals conflict with traditional Court structure. Specifically..." She paused deliberately. "....Lord Malachai and the Revolutionary faction represent an existential threat to everything the throne symbolizes. Any negotiation with them would be seen by the Traditional faction as betrayal of the principles we’re supporting you to uphold."

There it was. The real condition. The hidden cost of Traditional faction support.

Eve had to choose sides. Traditional faction or Revolutionary faction. Legitimate monarchy or revolutionary council. And choosing one ant permanent opposition from the other.

From his position near the window, Damian shifted slightly....a minute movent that only soone attuned to him would notice. He’d caught the sa thing Eve had. This wasn’t just an offer of support....it was an offer that would lock them into one side of a factional war.

"I appreciate Lady Seraphine’s concerns," Eve said carefully, buying ti to think. "But I should clarify sothing about my position."

Isadora inclined her head, listening.

"I don’t seek the throne because I’m traditional or revolutionary," Eve said, and felt Raphael’s approval radiating from his chair. "I seek it because it’s my heritage. My right. My obligation to the Seraphim people who suffered through twenty-three years of fractured leadership."

She held Isadora’s gaze. "Which ans my goal isn’t to restore the old Court or to validate the new one. My goal is to heal the division. To create a Court that honors tradition while acknowledging that change happened, so of which was necessary."

Isadora’s expression showed surprise....genuine surprise, quickly controlled.

"That’s....ambitious," she said finally.

"It’s necessary," Eve corrected. "The Court has been fractured for twenty-three years. That’s nearly a generation. Forcing everyone to choose sides...traditional or revolutionary, monarchy or council...just perpetuates the division that nearly destroyed us."

She leaned forward slightly. "I’ll take Lady Seraphine’s support gratefully. I’ll consult with the Traditional faction on major decisions. I’ll acknowledge your early backing." She paused deliberately. "But I won’t promise to treat the Revolutionary faction as permanent enemies. If there’s a path to reconciliation that doesn’t compromise legitimate succession, I’ll take it."

The silence that followed was profound.

Raphael was watching Eve with an expression of unveiled pride. Damian looked impressed despite himself. And Isadora...

Isadora looked like soone who had prepared for one conversation and gotten a completely different one.

"Lady Evangeline," she said slowly, "you’ve just described sothing that hasn’t been attempted in the history of the Seraphim Court. Reconciling traditional legitimacy with revolutionary reform....it’s theoretically possible but practically...." She stopped. "It would require extraordinary political skill."

"I have a good teacher," Eve said, glancing at Raphael.

"Clearly," Isadora said dryly. Then, more seriously: "I’ll convey your position to Lady Seraphine. I suspect she’ll be..." A pause. "—intrigued. And possibly concerned that you’re more formidable than anticipated."

"Is that a problem?" Eve asked.

"No," Isadora said, and sothing that might have been respect appeared in her expression. "It’s exactly what the Court needs. A queen who’s formidable. Who thinks strategically rather than reactively. Who understands that true power cos from healing rather than perpetuating divisions."

She stood, and Eve rose with her. "I’ll arrange a formal eting between you and Lady Seraphine herself within the week. She’ll want to assess you personally." A slight smile. "And I suspect she’ll be far more careful in how she fras her support after my report."

"I look forward to it," Eve said.

They moved toward the entryway, Damian taking the lead to escort Isadora out. At the door, Isadora paused and looked back at Eve.

"One more thing," she said. "Purely personal observation, not official faction position."

"Yes?"

"That mark....the claiming bond...it suits you." Isadora’s expression was genuinely warm for the first ti. "Power is easier to bear when you have people who genuinely care whether you survive wielding it. The wolves have chosen well. So have you."

With that, she inclined her head one final ti and left, her entourage falling in around her as she moved down the front steps toward the waiting vehicle.

Eve watched until the car pulled away. Then she turned to find both Raphael and Damian watching her with expressions that ranged from proud to impressed to slightly stunned.

"What?" she asked.

"You just," Raphael said, "conducted a masterclass in diplomatic negotiation. You accepted her support without accepting her conditions. You claid middle ground that neither faction expected anyone to claim. You made yourself interesting rather than predictable."

"And you did it," Damian added, "while making her think giving you support on YOUR terms was her idea."

"Was it that good?" Eve asked.

"It was better than good," Raphael said, and the emotion in his voice was unmistakable. "Your father would have been so proud."

Eve felt warmth bloom in her chest....not from the bond, but from genuine, earned satisfaction. She’d done it. Her first formal diplomatic encounter with the Seraphim Court, and she’d not just survived it...she’d excelled.

"So," she said, trying to keep the grin off her face and failing. "Did I pass?"

"With honors," Raphael confird.

From down the hallway, Damon’s voice called out: "Is she done being political? Can we feed her celebratory lunch now?"

Despite everything....the exhaustion, the lingering soreness, the weight of everything still ahead....Eve laughed.

Her absurd, impossible, perfect life continued.

And she was exactly where she belonged.
