Chapter 454: News That Refuses to Stay Buried

Two Days Ago

"Is anything the matter?" Caspian asked him.

"I just rembered sothing Ronan told yesterday," Orion told them. "He said the black market is gone and that Tobias was the one who sent Jarek and his people to Nirvana. They were on their way to the pack in the North."

Everyone’s eyes widened.

"There’s only one pack in the North," Brynhild said to him.

Orion nodded.

"Our pack."

"But how did the black market get destroyed? Where is Tobias then? He went there, didn’t he?" Lysander asked worriedly.

"I don’t have the full information," Orion told him. "I was about to get more when Sophia started burning up and that was halted. And now we can’t get answers from Jarek until he wakes."

"Goddess tits!" Caspian cursed.

"I pray that there’s a reasonable explanation for all this and that he’s safe," Daniel said.

"There’s sothing else too," Orion told them. "We ran into mbers of the enclave. We managed to get a captive, but Ronan and the others will bring him in and we can continue asking questions."

Brynhild frowned, deep in thought.

"The enclave in the heart of Nirvana?"

"Yes," Orion told her. "They were apparently sent by Victoria to get the first priest who turned to black magic."

Madam Tyler’s ears twitched.

"Black magic?"

"Yes. And according to the captive, Kairen—the beast I killed—was the one they had gone there for. But I don’t have all the answers, and I have no idea why Victoria would send them there," Orion told them.

"So it’s yet another question for us to find answers to," Madam Tyler said.

Orion nodded.

"I’m hoping that we can find answers soon too. But we all know now that we need most people here before we can even get answers at all. People like Ronan and Sophia. Ronan may have discovered sothing, so we need him."

The hall was quiet as everyone nodded.

"What do we do about the enclave letter?" Daniel asked Orion.

"I think it’ll be better not to send a reply," Orion said.

Mary made a sound of disagreent.

"Listen to ," Orion said to her, then turned to Daniel. "The body you found... did you bring it back?"

"Why would I?" Daniel asked with a frown. "We buried him instead."

Orion nodded, then turned back to the others, specifically Mary.

"If we send a reply, then it ans we got the ssage from the enclave. But then the ssenger himself is dead. Even if we didn’t kill him, the enclave may conclude that we did, and that will only bring the pack more issues."

"We can still send a reply, but it’ll be like the ssenger died while he was taking it back to them," Mary said.

"That doesn’t work either way," Brynhild told her, brows scrunched in thought. "If truly the ssenger died while sending the letter to the enclave, then the letter isn’t supposed to reach the enclave. Either way, it’ll trace it back to us. The enclave will want to know where their ssenger is."

"But they will also suspect us either way. Even if we don’t reply," Mary argued.

"True, but it wouldn’t be imdiate like if we send a reply," Brynhild told her.

Orion nodded in agreent with Brynhild.

"Yes. And also, that would give us ti to prepare for what may co when they start wondering why their ssenger isn’t back yet."

"So no reply," Daniel said.

"Exactly," Orion told them.

"I don’t like this," Mary said. "But honestly... I understand. Our main priority is the pack itself, with a sub-priority of revenge towards the enclave."

The others laughed at that, but there was no denying that Mary had spoken the truth. The main aim was to ensure that the mbers of the pack were safe, but that didn’t an they wouldn’t get the revenge that most of them hungered for when it ca to the enclave.

"I’ll take Darius’s head when that happens," Daniel said with a laugh, but everyone knew he was serious.

Orion winced and adjusted in his seat.

"About that..."

"Is sothing the issue?" Daniel asked with narrowed eyes.

"Not really."

"You are not going to give so bullshit about how Darius was a mber of our pack and that I shouldn’t kill him, right?" Daniel asked Orion, his voice cold.

Orion shook his head.

"That’s not what I’m saying. It’s... rember I told you we ran into so mbers of the enclave?" he asked Daniel.

Daniel’s eyes widened.

"That bastard Darius was a part of them?" he asked in barely restrained anger.

Orion nodded.

"Yes. And Ronan will be in a better position to tell you this, but Darius is dead. Ronan killed him."

There was silence as everyone stared at Daniel, whose face transford into a proud smile.

He banged his hand on the table and laughed in joy.

"That’s my son," he said loudly.

Caspian and the others had smiles on their faces too. Everyone knew what Darius did to Ronan’s family, after all.

"You know, maybe we should celebrate the news?" Caspian asked Daniel.

"I’ll get so wine. We must celebrate," Daniel said, laughing loudly.

"I’m happy Darius is dead, but it seems the both of you are forgetting that Darius isn’t the reason we are here after all. There are matters we need answers to," Madam Tyler spoke up.

"Answers we are all likely not getting now. We need Ronan and Sophia to be here before we can even start getting answers," Caspian said, nodding.

Orion turned to Lysander.

"Will we be able to ask Jarek questions imdiately when he wakes up?"

Lysander nodded.

"Yes. He should be able to answer questions when he wakes."

"And the boy?"

"He’s still unconscious, but we will get answers from him when he wakes too," Lysander told him.

Orion nodded, then turned to the others.

"We will et up again when Sophia wakes," Orion said to the elders, who nodded.

Caspian and Daniel started making their way out of the hall, and Orion stood up to leave too when Brynhild called out to him.

"Yes?" he asked her.

"I heard what Holly did to Sophia. What do you plan to do with her?" she asked him.
