Chapter 121: Kanna, the silent maid

It took a few seconds for Lucian to gather his thoughts because he was currently in an unknown place, seemingly a castle, as said by the maid standing before him.

And the worst part—

He didn’t even know whether any of them were allies or enemies.

‘I’ll have to look through it myself, and see if Lia is really as fine as she said,’ he muttered inwardly, lowering his head in thought.

Throughout his silence, the emotionless maid didn’t intervene, didn’t interrupt even once, simply standing beside the bed like a statue waiting for him.

After a while, Lucian finally exhaled softly before pushing the crimson sheets aside and standing up from the massive bed.

Looking down at himself, he noticed that aside from a pair of black boxers, he wasn’t wearing anything else.

“…What happened to the clothes I was wearing?”

He glanced toward the maid while asking the question, since she was likely the only person who seed to know what had happened to him after he lost consciousness.

“They were stained, so new ones have been prepared.”

She answered imdiately, carrying a neatly folded set of clothes resting across her arms.

Lucian’s eyes widened faintly, as he hadn’t seen her removing the clothes from anywhere, almost like they had simply appeared there without him realising.

He was about to reach for them, but before he could even move properly—

The maid’s body blurred before him..

Lucian tensed up instantly, his muscles tightening reflexively as his eyes sharpened in caution.

But within the next second, she reappeared, standing directly before him, at the sa spot she had stood before, as if she hadn’t moved in the first place.

“Done,” she muttered quietly, leaving Lucian confused.

But then suddenly, his eyes lowered, only to see himself wearing a black tailored suit with a matching pair of trousers and polished black boots.

He stared at himself, noticing how perfectly the suit fit his body.

Then slowly, he raised his eyes back toward the maid, who had a faint shine in her otherwise emotionless eyes, as if she found his surprised expression amusing.

“What did you do?”

Despite the uneasiness of the situation, genuine curiosity slipped into his voice.

“I helped Young Master put on his clothes,” she answered flatly, without the slightest change in her expression.

Lucian’s lips twitched at her refusal of a true answer.

It genuinely felt like he was speaking to a cute, emotionless doll.

The maid possessed an oddly unique charm despite her lack of emotion, and by her features, she looked asian.

Lucian towered over her height easily, while she stood sowhere around 160 centitres tall.

‘Did I grow taller?’ The question rose in his mind as he noticed the increased distance between himself and the floor below.

“What is your na?”

At his sudden question, the maid remained silent for several seconds, making Lucian frown again.

But then, she finally answered.

“Kanna.”

Her calm voice echoed softly.

“Kanna Kurokawa at your service.”

While introducing herself, she lightly lifted the edges of her maid skirt with both hands, gracefully moving one leg behind the other, before she lowered her head slightly in a proper formal greeting.

Lucian couldn’t help but raise a brow at the almost theatrical introduction.

“Okay… Kanna.”

He gave a faint nod before questioning further.

“Then can you tell why I’m here?”

The maid—Kanna answered imdiately.

“The Duchess wishes to et you.”

Giving another polite bow, she continued.

“I shall guide you to her.”

Finally, she turned and began walking toward the bedroom door with completely silent steps.

Lucian was still stunned by the terminology she kept using, as he had only heard the words ‘Duchess’ and ‘Castle’ in old storybooks and historical movies.

Even the room around him looked too extravagant to feel real.

But seeing Kanna now standing patiently near the door, silently waiting for him—

Lucian eventually shook his head of the useless thoughts and stepped forward.

His polished boots sofly struck the floor with each deliberate step, resounding against the quiet walls.

But just as Kanna was about to turn and open the doors—

“Kanna…”

She halted in her steps, then slowly turned toward him, only to see Lucian closing the distance and standing directly before her.

She tilted her head upward slightly to et his gaze, which held confusion… along with longing?

“…Have I ever seen you before?” Lucian asked quietly, unconsciously lifting his hand and gently holding her chin between his fingers.

As he took a good look at her face, he couldn’t help but strangely feel like he had seen her sowhere before, stirring a weird emotion in him, sothing he couldn’t properly understand.

Kanna was stunned by his actions, her eyes flickering visibly in surprise.

But almost imdiately, her eyes turned emotionless once again, perhaps even slightly colder.

“Young Master Lucian… this isn’t the kind of service I was referring to,” she said, carrying a subtle dangerous edge beneath her tone.

“Hm?”

Lucian tilted his head in confusion, then finally realising his hand was still lightly holding her chin—

His expression shifted faintly.

“Oh..”

He imdiately released her and pulled his hand back.

“Sorry if I scared you.”

Softly apologising, Lucian raised his hand once more, then gently patted the top of her head.

His fingers brushed through her smooth and silky black hair.

For a brief mont, Kanna completely stilled.

Then quietly, she gave a small nod.

After Lucian removed his hand, Kanna silently turned away before opening the bedroom doors and stepping out first.

Lucian followed shortly after, and the mont he exited the room, a long horizontal hallway stretched before his eyes.

The atmosphere carried the sa royal elegance as the room behind him, with dim golden lights softly illuminating the corridor.

After quietly closing the doors, Kanna imdiately began calmly walking down the corridor, with Lucian following behind her.

His gaze slowly drifted toward the enormous windows lining one side of the hallway.

Outside, the sky remained dark, and a huge garden spread outward below.

And beyond that—

Small glowing lights shimred in the distance.

Lucian’s eyes narrowed slightly toward the multiple tiny dots of light.

Then suddenly—

His vision sharpened unnaturally, and the distant lights instantly seed to zoom closer within his sight, allowing him to see much farther with ease.

For several seconds, Lucian remained stunned by the sudden change in his eyesight, almost feeling as though he had done sothing hawks and eagles were famous for.

Then slowly, he shifted his attention forward once again.

His polished boots echoed softly throughout the corridor as he walked behind Kanna… while her own footsteps remained completely silent.

He couldn’t hear even the faintest sound as she moved forward with smooth, practised movents.

“Where am I right now?”

Lucian suddenly spoke, prompting Kanna to turn her head slightly toward him as she saw him walking beside her.

“You are currently not on Earth, but within the world of vampires…”

A brief pause followed.

“In Bloodveil.”

Her words made Lucian halt mid-step for a second before he continued walking again.

The gears in his mind began turning as he kept his expression outwardly calm.

“So another world completely separate from the human world?” he asked curiously.

Kanna gave a small nod, noticing the lack of surprise when she talked about vampires.

“Young Master Lucian, you seem to already know about the existence of vampires.”

“Well…”

Lucian paused briefly before answering casually, sliding both his hands into his pockets.

“My sister turned out to be a vampire, right?

Bloodsucking, regeneration, bloody eyes… they aren’t sothing any other races could do, if there is more than one.”

He shrugged faintly.

His eyes wandered around the corridor while speaking.

The unique architecture surrounding him genuinely fascinated him, and his eyes carried a glimr of interest and curiosity.

Everything looked so different from Earth that for a mont—

He almost forgot all his hardships and the horrifying events he had just endured while fighting the Giant Maw Worm.

Kanna accepted his explanation, but inwardly, the suspicion still remained.

For so reason, she couldn’t help but feel that he already knew about their existence.

Maybe it was because he was too calm despite being brought to an unfamiliar place, or maybe it was sothing else entirely.

Lucian didn’t speak further, continuing to walk in silence as his attention shifted toward the floating ssages appearing before him.

[You have gained the title Killed by his sister.]

Lucian’s eyes twitched faintly.

‘Killed by his sister? What kind of stupid title is that?’

His fists clenched ever so slightly.

The title itself was ridiculous enough to make him let out a soft sigh.

Still, he chose not to comnt on it.

Then, another screen followed.

[You have acquired the Scarlett Bloodline.]

[You have gained the affinity: Fire.]

“Huh…?”

A confused mumble escaped his lips.

Kanna imdiately turned toward him.

A faint frown ford between her brows as she noticed him staring blankly forward.

“Young Master?”

“Nothing,” Lucian replied.

Her frown deepened.

But soon, she said nothing and continued walking, her eyes flickering back toward him every few seconds.

Lucian barely noticed her attention, as his focus remained elsewhere.

‘Akasha, didn’t it just say that I got so other bloodline in replacent? Then why did I get the Scarlett Bloodline too?’

[What is wrong with that?] Akasha sounded puzzled by his question, not understanding what was so confusing about it.

[Your original bloodline altered the Scarlett one, and that altered form beca your newly acquired Sanguis Noctus Bloodline.]

Lucian slowly nodded, yet sothing still bothered him.

Before he could ask though—

She spoke again, instantly interjecting him.

[And did you forget the property of your original bloodline?]

It took him a second for his eyes to light up in realisation of what she was implying.

‘Devour,’ he muttered inwardly.

‘So my bloodline devoured the Scarlett Bloodline?’

[Yes, though it’s not as simple as you think.] Akasha answered calmly, before imdiately adding.

[And don’t worry about Lia, nothing happened to her.]

She already knew exactly where his thoughts were heading, and frankly, she didn’t want this psycho spiralling again.

[Her talent hasn’t diminished or anything like that, so stop worrying about her and, for once, focus on yourself.]

Hearing her words, Lucian sighed quietly before nodding to himself.

Seeing him mumbling to himself while staring into empty space, Kanna couldn’t help but feel slightly unsettled.

‘Did the transformation damage his brain…?’ she wondered inwardly.
