“Um, excuse . I know I have no right to ask, but do you happen to have any water? I’m so thirsty....”

“.......”

Junho silently threw a bottled water at the man giving him a desperate look.

“Kuh...!”

The man emptied half of it in one go, then wiped his mouth and said,

“Thank you so much. B-but, um. Could you help ?”

“?”

Junho was ard with an air rifle and a commando dagger, but today he was wearing black work clothes, not tactical gear.

He had even taken off his helt on purpose, so at a glance, he only looked like a survivor in black work clothes. Perhaps because of that, the man did not seem especially wary of him.

“Yes, yes. My wife and daughter were captured by those n earlier. I barely managed to escape alone... khuh!”

The man kept wiping at his eyes with his filthy sleeve.

Junho looked at him with a deliberately sympathetic expression and said,

“I’m sorry about your situation, but that’s difficult. I’ll give you water, so go on your way. The other side of the bridge is my territory, so don’t co any closer. Then.”

Junho coldly turned away.

At that, the gaze of the man, who had been wiping his tears while glancing at him, changed for an instant.

Turning your back on soone when you did not yet know for certain whether they were an enemy or an ally was a clear violation of the “survival rules of the apocalypse.”

In other words, the way Junho looked right now made it perfectly reasonable to judge him as a rookie who had survived by luck thanks to an air rifle.

“P-please! I’m begging you! Please help !”

The man shouted loudly and dropped to his knees on the spot.

“There are a lot of people besides my wife and daughter who were dragged away by those bastards! Th-there’s food and fuel there too! If you save them, I’ll give it to you!”

'You?'

Just as expected.

The man and the bastards pretending to chase him were all in the sa group, and they had clearly already known that Junho had other people with him.

“......!”

Junho flinched his shoulders as if startled and stopped in place, then turned around.

“Food and fuel? How much is there?”

“A-a lot. There are several drums of oil. Rice too, and ran. Quite a lot of canned food too. Ah! And there are cattle. A huge number of them!”

“Cattle? The mooing kind?”

When Junho showed fairly strong interest, the man spoke even faster.

“Yes, yes. Those bastards’ base is a cattle farm. It looks like they wiped out the farm owner’s family and took the place over. They’re raising more than a hundred cattle loose, so even if you slaughter just one a month, you can eat your fill.”

Once you crossed the bridge and passed Yangseo Tunnel, you were imdiately in Yangpyeong County.

And Yangpyeong County bordered Hongcheon County, which was famous for Korean beef.

Hongcheon beef was especially famous, but Yangpyeong had quite a few cattle farms too.

“Mm....”

In truth, the answer was practically already decided, but Junho pretended to think it over for now.

Then he cautiously asked the man,

“Those n from earlier. They have more people with them, don’t they? Do any of them have guns?”

“Uh, no. They’re all only carrying knives, axes, spears, things like that.”

An obvious lie.

But Junho nodded with a slightly relieved expression.

“I see. Then °• N 𝑜 v 𝑒 l i g h t •° let’s do this. I’ll take you... ah, what’s your na?”

“I’m Kim Taesu. I ran a pension over in Yangseo-myeon.”

“I’m Lee Junho. Anyway, Mr. Kim Taesu. You know where their base is and how many there are, right?”

“Yes, yes. I know.”

“First, co with and show where it is. I’ll look at it myself and decide.”

“Of course. Thank you so much. Khup....”

“Don’t cry. I’m doing this because I need sothing too. Lead the way for now.”

After pretending to console the man squeezing out tears, Junho made Kim Taesu walk in front.

***

Walking about ten ters behind Kim Taesu with the air rifle held in a point-shooting stance so he could fire at any mont, Junho spoke quietly.

“I’m switching the man in front of and the other hidden ones to hostile targets. Drone, focus surveillance on the n inside the van. Assistant Manager Gu, keep aiming that way.”

— Confird.

— Understood.

The van where the two looters were hiding was about two hundred ters from the SUV where Gu Jeongmok was positioned.

The effective range was close to the limit, but with AI firing correction, it would not be a problem.

Before long, they drew close to the area where several vehicles, including the van, were scattered in disorder.

Junho held his firing posture as if he were tense, moving the muzzle of the air rifle here and there as he walked.

And just as Kim Taesu was passing the first passenger car that had crashed into the guardrail on the river side—

— The hostile target inside the van has raised a firearm. Vehicle window is being lowered. Firing angle. Not yet available.

Hearing Akina’s warning, Junho spoke loudly.

“Excuse ! Are there any zombies inside that car?”

“What? Ah, no! There aren’t. There weren’t any when I ran away earlier either!”

“Really? Still, just in case, please check one more ti.”

“O-okay.”

Kim Taesu pretended to peer into the vehicle and look inside.

Junho cleverly moved so that other cars stayed between him and the van where the looters were hiding, preventing the one with the gun from taking aim at him.

“There aren’t any! I checked, and there’s nothing!”

Then, at a certain mont, Kim Taesu shouted loudly.

“Really? There really aren’t any?”

“Yes! I’m telling you, there really aren’t!”

The instant Kim Taesu shouted back with a trace of irritation in his voice as Junho asked again—

“There you are!”

“......!?”

At the sa ti as he gave Gu Jeongmok the signal, Junho stepped to the side and fired the air rifle at the van’s rear seat window.

Pang! Puk!

The tungsten round pierced the glass and buried itself in the face of the looter who had been irritated because he was trying to shoot Junho but could not get a proper firing angle.

Pang! Pang!

Junho fired two more shots at the other man inside the vehicle, then imdiately sprinted at full power.

“Aaagh! Aaaah!”

He ran straight past Kim Taesu, who was thrown into panic by the sudden shooting, and launched himself toward the van’s rear window, where the tungsten round had punched a hole and cracks spread like a spiderweb.

Perrrrk!

“Kkgh...? Uuuh!?”

Protecting his face with the air rifle and his forearm fitted with reinforced plastic guards, Junho smashed through the van window and entered, then drove a fist at the looter who was groaning in pain, apparently hit in the shoulder by a tungsten round.

Crack!

With the sound of bones shattering, the bastard’s nasal bone and one cheekbone caved in entirely.

After clearing the van, Junho imdiately opened the door, stepped out, and began firing at the other n hiding at the end of the bridge.

Pang! Pang! Pang!

The distance was a little over a hundred ters, and he had already pinpointed their positions completely through the drone.

The rounds he fired at the looters, who had only concealed themselves among the brush without taking cover, almost did not miss.

Junho fired six shots in an instant and landed five, then slung the air rifle behind him, drew the commando dagger, and sprinted again.

Papapapapak!

“Kgh... huuk!?”

“Uwah!”

When he closed the distance all at once in less than ten seconds, the looters who had collapsed after being shot and were writhing in pain went pale with terror.

Junho launched a soccer kick at the face of the bastard collapsed closest to him.

Puk!

The man’s head twisted almost a hundred eighty degrees, killing him instantly.

“Huuuh!?”

The instant another nearby man, bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound to the shoulder, startled and tried to stand—

Junho closed the distance in a flash and swept the commando dagger across.

Slice!

The looter’s throat was cut nearly halfway through with a single slash, and he collapsed on the spot without even managing to scream.

Passing right by him, Junho quickly threw himself toward the place where the remaining looters had been hiding.

But the other three were already dead, their faces and foreheads punctured by tungsten rounds.

“.......”

After confirming once again whether the looters were alive or dead, Junho finally wiped the blood from the commando dagger on one of their clothes, turned around, and started walking back.

***

“Uah? Uuuh....”

Kim Taesu, who had been sitting collapsed in the middle of the bridge, saw Junho walking back after finishing the massacre and scooted backward on his butt.

His pants were soaked and filthy not with sweat, but with the shit and piss he had unknowingly released.

Thud.

Kim Taesu, who had been retreating in terror, soon struck the back of his head against the bumper of a car, and his aningless escape attempt ended there.

“.......”

“Uuuh... ugh.”

Junho looked down silently at Kim Taesu for a mont with cold eyes, then opened his mouth.

“Is it true?”

“Uuh? What? What?”

“The cattle. Are there really cattle?”

“What...?”

Even in the middle of his terror, Kim Taesu was massively confused.

Wasn’t it normal to get angry first in a situation like this?

Or even if he was not going to kill him, shouldn’t he torture him or sothing and ask where the others were and how many there were first?

But the monster-like man in front of him acted as if none of that mattered at all.

And since it seed like that terrifying knife might cut his throat at any mont, Kim Taesu hurriedly answered.

“Th-there are! The c-cattle are really there!”

“How many?”

“A-about more than a hundred. We’ve eaten five or six so far, but th-there are still a lot.”

“Good. Get up and guide .”

“What? Ah, yes, yes.”

Kim Taesu barely managed to stand.

His legs kept trembling, and his backside had grown heavy with shit and piss, but he moved without caring about it.

After he had taken about five or six steps like that—

“This is your final warning. If you try any more half-assed bullshit this ti, you die too. You die if you turn around, too.”

“Yes! Yes!”

Junho had not given any such warning even once until now, and this was the first one, but Kim Taesu only nodded frantically.

“Assistant Manager Gu, follow about fifty ters behind . You have the mini drone I gave you, right? Send it into the tunnel.”

— U-understood.

Listening to Gu Jeongmok’s strangely unnerved voice, Junho followed behind Kim Taesu toward the tunnel.

***

As expected, the tunnel only had a few abandoned vehicles. There were no zombies or people.

It was obvious that the n he had just killed and their group had already cleared it and made it their “territory.”

After passing through the long tunnel and erging outside, Junho followed Kim Taesu off the highway and walked along a cracked country road.

They passed several private houses that seed empty, then moved for about twenty more minutes before Kim Taesu stopped.

“Th-there it is. Once we go over there, there’s a cattle farm.”

“Really? It doesn’t look big enough to raise more than a hundred cattle loose.”

“I-it’s true. The land here and the mountain all belong to the farm owner. After the world changed like this, they just let all the cattle loose, and they graze outside on their own, then co back when the sun sets.”

“.......”

Junho had heard similar stories before, so he accepted it silently.

“Keep guiding .”

“Yes, yes. B-but. Once we go over that hill, you can see the cowshed and the farm owner’s house right away... and there are always a few people there....”

“Go up as far as we can without being seen first.”

“Y-yes.”

Kim Taesu started moving again on trembling legs, and Junho checked the air tank and air rifle he had already swapped out as he said quietly,

“Assistant Manager Gu, circle around through that forest and take a firing position. We don’t have drone recon support, so be careful.”

— Yes, don’t worry.

Confirming that Gu Jeongmok quickly crossed the field and entered the forest thick with trees and brush, Junho quickened his steps and stuck close behind Kim Taesu.

“Don’t make a sound. Listen carefully.”

“Hp!”

At Junho’s ice-cold voice right behind him, Kim Taesu froze in place.

“From now on, I’m going to kill every last bastard on that farm. So I’m asking just in case. Are your family really in there?”

“......!!!”

For an instant, Kim Taesu’s shoulders trembled so hard he nearly staggered.

Then he collapsed to the ground.

“Khuhuh...! Huu, huuuk.”

“.......”

Kim Taesu had joined hands with the looters and tried to lure Junho out with lies.

But it seed he had told the truth about at least one thing.
