"Alright. Let’s have dumplings then." Bo Yan nodded and directed the driver to stop at a nearby supermarket. Just as he was about to get out of the car, Xia Siyu grabbed his arm.
Bo Yan was a little puzzled. "I’ll go buy the ingredients."
"I want to go too!" Xia Siyu held onto his arm tightly and refused to let go. "I want to go, I want to go."
Bo Yan looked around. This store was one of the larger supermarkets in the area, a bustling place with lots of people coming and going. If they got recognized...
But as he caught sight of Xia Siyu’s pitiful puppy-eyed expression, he imdiately nodded. "Alright."
He then turned around and got her a hat, a pair of plain glasses, and a new mask. He even prepared gloves for her. Feeling it wasn’t enough, he also wrapped a scarf around her neck to cover it.
By the ti he was done, Xia Siyu was bundled up like a dumpling, her eyes blinking behind the plain glasses. Bo Yan geared himself up as well, donning a hat, scarf, mask, and even a pair of comically large, tacky black-frad glasses. Only then did he take her hand and lead her out of the car.
It was New Year’s Eve at 5:30 in the evening, the final rush for New Year’s shopping. The supermarket was almost packed to the brim with custors. Yet the lively atmosphere didn’t feel suffocating; instead, it exuded a sense of abundance, like the warm, bustling everyday scenes of human life.
Xia Siyu rarely visited supermarkets. For one, she hardly cooked or shopped for herself. On set, there were chefs; at ho, she ordered takeout. If she stayed sowhere long enough, she’d even hire a housekeeper. And when she needed sothing, she’d either order it online or ask Wei Jingjing to handle it. Secondly, as a celebrity—whether loved or hated—she was still pretty well-known. Visiting a supermarket could very well result in being mobbed, making it hard to leave. Not to ntion, she wasn’t great at picking things out. When buying sothing, she either went for the brand or the appearance, which didn’t require a trip to the store—online shopping could take care of that.
In the distant past, though, before e-comrce was widespread, she did enjoy going to supermarkets with her parents. Even after she returned from abroad and had a falling out with the Xia Family, before her mother’s illness, she still loved going places with her parents.
But unfortunately...
Bo Yan held her hand as they entered the store. The mont they stepped through the doors, Xia Siyu froze. She had spotted a display of New Year’s toys. Since it was the Year of the Ox, there was a massive toy ox on display as soon as they entered. Xia Siyu imdiately picked one up and stared at Bo Yan with wide, expectant eyes.
Bo Yan chuckled. "If you like it, go ahead and buy it. Want to pick out another one?"
Clutching the toy tightly, Xia Siyu shook her head without a second glance at the other oxes. "I just want this one!"
Bo Yan smiled helplessly, then took her hand and continued walking further into the store. As Xia Siyu passed the snack aisle, she kept sneaking snacks into Bo Yan’s shopping basket. Bo Yan glanced at the items and comnted, "Soda crackers, 100 grams, about 400 calories. Chocolate, 100 grams, 550 calories. Spicy sticks, 100 grams, 200 calories. Wow, this one’s impressive—double-chocolate cookies, 100 grams, 600 calories..."
Xia Siyu wasn’t having it. "I want to eat them! It’s New Year’s; can’t I have so snacks? Besides, I have no other work right now. Why can’t I buy them? Am I eating rice from your house? Aren’t you the one who suggested ’cheat als’?"
Bo Yan sighed in resignation. "Fine. But how about this: we only buy one of each kind of snack, just to satisfy the craving."
Xia Siyu shook her head persistently. "No, I want two of each."
Bo Yan was about to reason with her again, but Xia Siyu interrupted, saying, "It’s for you! Snacks taste better when shared."
