"Adrian Desmond, if you die, I’ll remarry imdiately!"

It was not a joke. She said it with complete seriousness!

True love is companionship, long-lasting companionship. If a man can’t even give this kind of commitnt, how can he claim to love ? Since he doesn’t love , why should I wait for him for the rest of my long life?

The alarm on the machine started to beep. It indicated that Adrian Desmond’s heart rate had exceeded the normal range; he had reacted to Sienna Johnson’s words.

The doctor was delighted. "Great, there’s a reaction," he said to Sienna Johnson. "Keep talking... It seems your husband cares about you a lot. Try to provoke him more and stimulate his will to live."

Sienna Johnson, however, remained cold-faced, sitting there without uttering another word.

Few words were needed. Just that one sentence was enough. If he heard her, that was for the best; if he didn’t, she wouldn’t force it.

Ti ticked by, second by second. Adrian Desmond had received a complete blood transfusion, yet he was still in mortal danger.

Sienna Johnson prayed in her heart, over and over. As long as he is safe, I will willingly shorten my life by ten years! I will exchange ten years of my life for his safety.

The strong sll of blood in the operating room made Sienna Johnson’s breathing difficult. She felt very uncomfortable. If not for her insistence on staying with him, she might have fainted.

"Hemostats!"

"Yes!"

A nurse wiped sweat from the doctor’s brow. The surgery had dragged on for a long ti, and Sienna Johnson felt she was about to collapse.

Adrian Desmond’s face was ashen, pale as paper. It was the first ti she had seen him so vulnerable, like a lamp of life that could be extinguished at any mont.

"The situation doesn’t look good," the doctor suggested. "You should talk to your husband."

"I have nothing to say to him!" Sienna Johnson said softly.

The young nurse glanced at the cold Sienna Johnson, thinking the woman before her was too cruel. Her husband is on the verge of death. How can she have nothing to say to him?

"If he truly dies on the operating table today, that’s his choice. I may not agree with it, but I will accept his choice!"

Her daughter was still young, and she was pregnant with a child nearing its due date. Under such circumstances, Adrian Desmond had recklessly disregarded everything to shield Elliot Carpenter, and now his life hung by a thread. Sienna Johnson was furious, resentful, and filled with hatred.

Even if he cared for us—his wife and children—even a tiny bit, he wouldn’t have done sothing so impulsive.

The doctor sighed. "I don’t know why he was shot, but at a ti like this, why hold a grudge? If he truly doesn’t make it off the operating table today..."

Sienna Johnson cut him off. "Are all of you Himakati doctors this unprofessional? A life is at stake. Can you please focus on the surgery and stop talking?"

The doctor was rendered speechless.

"If he truly doesn’t make it off this operating table today, it will be because you talked too much!"

"You child..." The doctor, no longer young, was sowhat angered by this woman questioning his professionalism.

Another assisting doctor chid in, "Dr. Godfried, let’s just concentrate on the surgery. If this man doesn’t survive, we’ll all have to answer for it with our lives."

"If I were this man, I’d rather be dead anyway, since my wife clearly doesn’t care," the first doctor muttered, glancing at Sienna Johnson, only to see her face cold and impassive.

Dr. Godfried automatically pieced together a scenario in his mind. His wife is this furious; it must be a cri of passion. The man must have provoked his lover’s partner, who then shot him. That’s why his wife is so angry she won’t even speak to him.

From then on, Sienna Johnson refused to utter another word.

Whether a deity heard her prayers or not, after five and a half grueling hours, the surgery finally ended.

The bullet was painstakingly extracted from the area near his heart...

The doctor looked at the bullet in the forceps. "This bullet was lodged very deep."

The bloody bullet head had been embedded near his heart until just monts ago, nearly costing Adrian Desmond his life.

"Doctor, is he... is he all right now?" Sienna Johnson’s lips trembled, her face etched with an anxiety she couldn’t hide.

As she spoke, she stared intently at the doctor’s face, hardly daring to breathe, terrified of what terrible words might co from his mouth.

"The bullet has been removed, but he’ll need to be observed in the Intensive Care Unit for a few days. If he makes it through that period safely, he’ll be completely out of danger."

"And if he doesn’t make it through? Will he die?"

"You needn’t worry too much. Your husband is strong and in his pri. I believe he’ll be out of danger soon..."

Before the doctor could finish, Sienna Johnson swayed and collapsed, unconscious.

"Doctor, the Madam has fainted..."

"What are you standing around for? Resuscitate her, quickly!"

Sienna Johnson, who had been forcing herself to stay strong ever since hearing Adrian Desmond had been shot, finally succumbed and fainted upon learning that he was likely out of imdiate danger.

...

Sienna Johnson experienced another bout of threatened preterm labor and had so bleeding. The situation wasn’t promising. The doctor didn’t say much, just gave her an injection to help sustain the pregnancy and advised her to rest well.

"Madam, please eat sothing." Walter Klein had bought breakfast for Sienna Johnson.

Sienna Johnson had no appetite at all, but she forced herself to eat a significant amount. No matter how willful she felt, she couldn’t harm the child in her womb.

Walter Klein watched Sienna Johnson’s grim face and her uncharacteristic quietness, feeling a knot of panic in his chest, unsure how to console her.

He had known Sienna Johnson for several years and had so understanding of her temperant. Seeing her like this, it was clear she was furious—and not just mildly so.

One could only imagine the terrifying extent of Sienna Johnson’s wrath that Adrian Desmond would face when he woke up.

"Sixth Master will be fine," Walter Klein said, his voice lacking conviction, before he too fell silent.

Sienna Johnson sipped her porridge, mouthful by mouthful, offering no reply.

The door to the ward was suddenly flung open. Walter Klein looked towards the entrance and saw it was none other than lanie Carpenter.

What is she doing here?

Sienna Johnson barely lifted her eyelids, not deigning to spare lanie Carpenter even a glance.

"Sienna Johnson, I’m begging you, please save my father..." lanie Carpenter cried, a picture of tear-streaked misery. Unfortunately for her, Sienna Johnson was a woman—and one who harbored grievances against her. She felt only disgust.

"Miss Carpenter, Madam has just experienced threatened preterm labor. Please don’t disturb her rest. As for Mr. Carpenter’s situation, Sixth Master will handle it once he wakes up." Walter Klein grabbed lanie Carpenter’s arm, trying to pull her out of the room to prevent her from disturbing Sienna Johnson’s rest.

lanie Carpenter wouldn’t budge. "We don’t even know when Sixth Brother will wake up! By the ti he does, my father might already be in grave danger!"

"Miss Carpenter, at least he’s still alive!" Walter Klein retorted, his voice laced with anger.

If Elliot Carpenter hadn’t disregarded Adrian Desmond’s advice and acted so rashly, Adrian Desmond wouldn’t have been shot and wouldn’t be fighting for his life right now!

"...Sienna Johnson, please, I beg you, save my father! That Xavier Young... he wants to see you. He said if you agree to et him, he’ll release my father!"
