Liu Daqing listened, then replied in a detached tone, "Donglin, didn’t you promise a mysterious gift for next year’s festival?"
"Don’t rush! It’s only the third month of spring. As the saying goes, ’fireworks in March in Yangzhou,’ so there’s still a long ti until the New Year. Besides, I’ve never lied to you, right?"
"Donglin, you need to be careful. At this juncture, we cannot afford even a single misstep."
"Mom, don’t worry. I know how to handle things."
Liu Daqing sighed deeply. A mother can’t control her grown offspring. In her view, her son should go to Ruo City imdiately, but she didn’t want to force him.
At that mont, Wan Donglin was looking at an account on his computer. It displayed the latest hedge fund data. In the past half-month, he had found so accounts to be very strange, and he couldn’t find any record of them in the related docuntation. These were all large cash accounts with unclear sources of funds. Moreover, during so clear economic downturns, they had surprisingly continued to surge. Having worked in this industry for so long, he had only seen such data once before, and that instance had quickly led to a financial tsunami. This was the real reason he had stayed. Although there’s no evidence, my intuition tells soone has tampered with these strange accounts. Or rather, the identities of the owners behind these peculiar cash accounts are highly suspicious.
After a while, he accessed another system. Inside, there was an even more peculiar account, with an astonishingly large sum of money.
He suddenly recalled the legends surrounding the Zhou Family. A chill went down his spine. Could it be that Old Zhou is really preparing to skip town?
Just then, the phone rang. He walked out onto the large terrace to answer it.
Zhou Ting’s voice was very calm, as if nothing at all had ever happened. Ever since she discovered Wan Donglin’s "violent tendencies," she had avoided contacting him privately. After all, she instinctively recoiled from him and truly didn’t want to get entangled with a man who had such a disorderly lifestyle and was prone to violence. She was only calling today because she truly felt she had no other choice.
"Donglin, are you free right now?"
"I have a eting tonight. Before that, I have half an hour free."
"Half an hour isn’t enough. Are you free tomorrow?"
He laughed. "Do you need sothing? If it’s urgent, you can tell now."
"It’s not convenient to discuss over the phone. How about this: I’ll wait for you at the sa old place tomorrow at 2 PM. Alright, I won’t disturb you any longer then."
What does Zhou Ting want to talk about this ti? he wondered. With an attitude like that, it’s clearly not a sign she wants to get back together, let alone propose.
As he thought about those strange accounts he had been tracking, his ominous premonition grew stronger. Mom was right. A storm is brewing; a massive upheaval is, in fact, only just beginning.
Her attempt to treat him to lunch having fallen through, the two girls went to eat skewers together. Along the way, Yan Xixi was disgruntled. Who does that guy think he is, putting on such airs? Isn’t he just so slob? Maybe he’s too ugly to show his face, right?
But Xu Xiaoya found herself liking this stranger even more. "Xixi, I think that person is really interesting. He helped you so much; if he really had ulterior motives, he’d definitely be eager to et you as soon as possible. But he’s not showing up at all. Clearly, he’s a very cautious person and isn’t trying to get anything from you."
"Maybe he thinks that the more he acts this way, the more I’ll want to see him. Hmph! Well, I just *won’t* see him. Even if he invites next ti, I won’t go. I’m determined not to let him get his way."
PFFT! Xu Xiaoya burst out laughing.
Just then, they suddenly saw a familiar figure flash past. Xu Xiaoya paused, surprised. "Xixi, look! Who’s that person up ahead?"
