As he left, Nathaniel Nathan glanced back at Vera Xavier. "I’ll be back in a bit to bring you so nutritional supplents."

The mont they were gone, Rona Langdon began her tirade. "Vera Xavier, you did this today just to make look bad, didn’t you? Spit it out! How did you cheat to get these scores!"
Vera Xavier said, her voice full of grievance, "Mom, even if I cheated, there’s no way I could get first in the class and third in the entire school. And even if I wanted to copy, I’d need soone to copy from!"
Rona Langdon was left speechless for a mont before she said bluntly, "Soone as stupid as you, how could you possibly do so well on the exam?"
Vera Xavier’s tone beca even more aggrieved. "Mom, have you forgotten? I got into Number One High School with a nearly perfect score on the entrance exam. It’s just that you told every single day that studying was useless, that it was better to get married early, that I should just go get a job. You tore up my books, threw away my test papers, and even warned that if I ever scored that well again, you would disown ."
She sniffled and said, "My birth mother already abandoned . If you abandon too, I won’t have a ho!"
Rona Langdon never imagined Vera Xavier would choose this mont to air her grievances. Her expression instantly turned foul. "What nonsense are you spouting!"
Hearing all this, how could Zachary Preston not understand what was going on?
He rembered Vera Xavier’s entrance exam scores, then her more recent grades. He asked Vera Xavier, "So you were intentionally doing poorly on your exams before this?"
Vera Xavier nodded. Zachary Preston sighed. "You silly girl, why would you do sothing so foolish?"
"I was afraid of making Mom angry," Vera Xavier said softly.
Rona Langdon flew into a rage. "So you’re not afraid of making angry now, is that it! Look at you! You’re not cut out for studying! You’re just a money pit! Keeping you at ho is like feeding a freeloader. You’d be better off getting married and finding a job to earn so money!"
"Shut up!" Zachary Preston snapped, unable to tolerate it any longer. "Vera is our daughter! How can you speak to her like that!"
"I... She..." Rona Langdon stamred, unable to voice her true complaint. ’Should I find the right ti to tell Zachary that Vera isn’t our biological daughter?’ she wondered. ’Then he wouldn’t be so protective of her all the ti.’
Gritting her teeth, she said, "It’s easy for you to talk—you’re not the one who has to manage the household budget! You say you want Vera to study, but Cara is in school too. If both of them are studying, the family simply can’t afford it!"
"What do you an we can’t afford it!" Zachary Preston was furious. "We had thirty thousand in savings, plus my salary for the entire year. How could we possibly not be able to afford to send Vera and Cara to school? Even if we had no money, I would sell everything we own to make sure they go to college!"
His stance was resolute, and a warmth spread through Vera Xavier’s heart.
’Even though I can support myself, and I’d have enough money for school if I sold the jade in my room, Zachary’s attitude is just so heartwarming.’
Hearing Zachary Preston’s words, Rona Langdon barely managed to bite back the urge to call him a complete idiot. In her heart, she believed it was useless for a girl to get so much education—especially not Vera, who wasn’t even their daughter!
She didn’t dare vent her anger on Zachary Preston, so she turned and continued berating Vera Xavier. "You money pit! You must have co into this life just to collect a debt from !"
At that mont, she truly wished she could tear Vera Xavier to shreds, but unfortunately, Zachary Preston was there.
’For once, Rona Langdon was actually right,’ Vera Xavier thought. ’I really am here in this life to collect a debt from her. And I will get back everything she owed from our last life!’
