By now, Nathaniel Nathan’s face was ashen. He didn’t dare to imagine what would have happened if he hadn’t arrived in ti. As his anger flared, the temperature in the alley instantly plumted by more than ten degrees, and a layer of frost began to form.
The gang leader saw that things were going south. Shivering, he said, "Young Master Nathan, we were just hired to do a job! We swear, we had no intention of offending your lady before this!"
Nathaniel Nathan looked at Vera Xavier. "What do you want to do with them?"
Vera knew that as despicable as these scumbags were, they weren’t the masterminds. She narrowed her eyes, about to speak.
Seeing this, the gang leader imdiately understood her importance to Nathaniel Nathan. He realized their lives were in her hands. He quickly cut in before she could speak, "Young Master Nathan has excellent taste! Your lady isn’t just stunningly beautiful, she’s also brave, sharp, and fearless! In the entire world, only she is worthy of Young Master Nathan!"
Vera Xavier frowned. Seeing her frown, the gang leader grew nervous and blurted out, "Madam, may you live for a thousand generations and unite the martial world!"
Vera Xavier: "..."
Seeing that it seed to be working, the gang leader continued, "May Madam live ten thousand years! Your commanding presence is natural-born, unparalleled in this world! We wish to pledge ourselves to you, Madam, and for the rest of our lives, we are willing to slave away to serve you..."
"Shut up!" Vera Xavier couldn’t listen anymore. A mont ago, this punk had seed so vicious, but in the blink of an eye, he’d turned into a complete moron. ’What does he an, "slave away to serve "?’
’Like hell I need his service! Is he out of his mind?’
The gang leader was so frightened he imdiately shrank back, looking pitifully at Vera Xavier.
Vera Xavier looked at Nathaniel Nathan and said, "They’re clearly not good people. They’ve probably hurt plenty of others before. Let’s turn them over to the police station!"
The gang leader was scared witless. Guys like them had been roaming the streets of Crestfall for years. While they’d never committed murder or arson, bullying the weak was their bread and butter, so they all had records at the police station.
His family had connections at the station. Normally, if he got picked up for so minor offense, he could call in a favor, slip soone so cash, and the problem would disappear. But if Nathaniel Nathan was the one to turn them in, he feared no amount of connections or money could get them out. If things went badly, they could even be looking at life sentences.
He imdiately burst into a blubbering ss of tears and snot. "Madam, we know we were wrong! We’ll never do it again! Please, just let us go this once! If you let us go, we’ll follow your every command from now on!"
Vera was fed up with his pathetic display. But then, a thought occurred to her. She would need a lot of people to accomplish her future goals. Right now, she was weak and on her own, leaving her vulnerable to being taken advantage of without even realizing it.
This bastard, while a scumbag, seed pretty quick-witted. He might actually be useful later on.
She looked toward Nathaniel Nathan, but he just struck a pose that scread, ’They’re scum, and just looking at them hurts my eyes.’ He was clearly leaving the decision to her. "They’re annoying," he said, "and they’ve definitely hard people before. How about this? We chop them up and throw them in the river."
Those words nearly made the gang leader piss himself in fear. Anyone else might have just been making an empty threat, but coming from Nathaniel Nathan, it was very likely to beco reality!
The mory of that thing Nathaniel Nathan did back then flashed before his eyes. The horrific scene from that day was simply indescribable. He knew with absolute certainty that whether he lived through the night depended entirely on Vera Xavier!
