After setting everything up, Nathaniel Nathan decided to personally ambush Trent Thornton. While Trent’s position seed to be a perfect blind spot from all angles, Nathaniel saw a one-percent window of opportunity. The only catch was that it required soone’s cooperation to lure Trent out of that spot—even just a little would be enough.
However, in a situation like this, Trent Thornton would never erge unless sothing unusual happened.
Nathaniel Nathan observed the scene inside once more, and then he made a shocking discovery: there was a girl in there who looked exactly like Vera Xavier!
Usually suprely confident, he now wondered if his eyes were deceiving him.
He took another look inside and confird it—that was Vera Xavier! He ground his teeth, cursing her silently. ’That gutsy girl actually ca here to gamble on stones!’
’Coming here to gamble on stones is one thing, but to put herself in mortal danger... If it weren’t for the current situation, I’d haul her up and give her a good thrashing!’
As he spotted Vera Xavier, his gaze must have been too intense, because she sensed it imdiately. She turned her head and t his eyes, which were filled with a complex mixture of emotions and worry.
For so reason, the mont she saw his eyes, she felt an inexplicable pang of guilt.
Her heart began to race. ’How is he here? This is too much of a coincidence!’
She glanced at the murderous-looking Trent Thornton and imdiately understood: Nathaniel was on a mission.
She silently cursed her bad luck but quickly collected herself. ’I haven’t done anything wrong. What’s there to feel guilty about?’
’Wait. If he’s on a mission, and he still hasn’t acted, does that an he doesn’t have an opportunity?’
After glancing at Trent Thornton’s position, she imdiately got the gist of the situation. She checked the ti; eight minutes had already passed.
She took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down, then looked at Trent Thornton and said, "I’ll take his place. Let him go!"
Trent Thornton was taken aback. He hadn’t expected such a delicate-looking girl to be so bold.
Aaron Cheney hadn’t expected her to offer to trade places and imdiately grew anxious. "Vera, don’t worry about ! If anything happens to you, how am I supposed to answer to Nathaniel!"
Vera Xavier ignored Aaron Cheney and looked at Trent Thornton. "I’m a girl. I’m weaker. It’ll be easier for you to use as a hostage!"
Trent Thornton sneered, flicking the knife in his hand as he stared at her coldly. "Scram!"
Vera Xavier flinched, instinctively covering her head. Alistair Forrest panicked. "Honey, get back here!"
He couldn’t believe her audacity. It was an incredibly dangerous situation, yet she was still trying to be a hero!
Vera Xavier didn’t look back. She took another step forward, looking at Trent Thornton with utmost sincerity. "He’s my only brother. Nothing can happen to him. I’m willing to trade my life for his! And I’ll cooperate with your escape!"
Trent Thornton was surprised again. He let out a sinister laugh. "You’re an interesting one, little girl. Fine. Co on over, and I’ll grant your wish!"
Vera Xavier raised her hands and walked toward Trent Thornton. When she was just a step away, Susan Caldwell suddenly scread, "She knows martial arts!"
Trent Thornton froze for a second, then kicked Aaron Cheney, sending him flying. Aaron slamd against the wall and was knocked unconscious. At the sa instant, Trent Thornton thrust his knife toward Vera Xavier’s head.
Vera Xavier cursed inwardly, ’That despicable, shaless Susan Caldwell!’
’We’re all in danger here. Even if we had our differences, does she really need to go this far to get killed?!’
