Even though Chen Ruoyu hadn’t said a word, the male educated youths had started to take issue with Li Hongi staring in their direction every day.
One day, one of the male educated youths approached Li Hongi to tactfully express his thoughts.
"Hong i! The revolution isn’t over yet, and I’m not ready to think about personal matters."
The speaker was Hu Ziqiang.
Most of the day, Li Hongi’s gaze was fixed on him.
It was really bothering him.
He couldn’t help it. Li Hongi wasn’t good-looking and simply wasn’t his type. Today, he had to steel his heart and reject her affections.
Li Hongi frowned, then looked Hu Ziqiang up and down.
’This guy can’t possibly think I’m into him, can he?’
Li Hongi’s skin crawled.
This Hu Ziqiang was darker-skinned than she was, short, and useless at work. She’d have to be out of her mind to be interested in him.
’He’s not much to look at, but he sure has a vivid imagination!’
The person she liked was Yun Hao.
But considering Hu Ziqiang was friends with Yun Hao, Li Hongi held back from saying anything too harsh.
"Hu Ziqiang, I think you’re right. Don’t worry, I have no interest in you whatsoever."
With that, Li Hongi had made her intentions clear.
Hu Ziqiang let out a sigh of relief.
For several days after that, the two didn’t speak, and Li Hongi stopped looking his way.
Only then was Hu Ziqiang able to truly relax.
As for Li Hongi, after her talk with Chen Ruoyu about rembering past hardships, she completely ignored her friend’s speechless expression and pulled her aside to ask about Yun Hao.
"Ruoyu, it seems Yun Zhiqing wasn’t here for lunch."
Li Hongi said, her voice tinged with lancholy.
’These past few days, Xu Wenwan has been laying low and hasn’t co around as much. But Yun Hao has changed. He just stares at the main gate every day, and I don’t know what he’s thinking!’
She had seen him with her own eyes go looking for Xu Wenwan several tis.
This left her feeling rather dejected; the path to winning his heart seed fraught with difficulty.
Chen Ruoyu wasn’t concerned. "He probably went out."
Everyone knew what he was out doing.
’It was the dead of winter, and the weather was freezing. What else could he be doing outside besides looking for Xu Wenwan?’
The words had barely left her mouth when Yun Hao’s voice sounded from outside the educated youth quarters. Without a mont’s hesitation, Li Hongi went straight out.
She saw Yun Hao just as he was entering the n’s dormitory.
Li Hongi’s gaze shot over, and she peered inside through the window.
She spotted Yun Hao’s figure among the group of n inside.
He was exceptionally handso, with a unique charisma that made him stand out in any crowd. You couldn’t help but notice him.
Before, Li Hongi hadn’t felt this way, but now, the more she looked, the more her heart fluttered. It seed she had truly fallen for Yun Hao.
It was a heart-pounding feeling she’d never gotten when she used to watch Leng Yuan.
She subconsciously straightened her braided pigtails and tugged at her clothes. Looking at her own skin, which had beco much fairer recently, she felt a swell of accomplishnt.
She stared eagerly at his back, waiting for him to co out so she could find an opportunity to talk to him.
Hu Ziqiang, who had opened the window for so fresh air, looked up and his eyes t Li Hongi’s unblinking gaze. He shuddered violently.
Hu Ziqiang: ...
’What is with her?’
’Didn’t I make things perfectly clear? Why is she still staring at with such a lovelorn expression!’
’Could it be? Is she hopelessly in love with ?’
At this thought, a wave of dread washed over Hu Ziqiang.
’This Li Hongi... with her round, flat face, flat nose, and skin as dark as charcoal... there was no way he could ever like her.’
With that thought, he stood up and SLAMD the window shut, cutting off her persistent gaze.
’No, I have to find a way to make her give up for good.’
Out in the courtyard, Li Hongi had been lost in thought, staring at Yun Hao’s back, when Hu Ziqiang abruptly blocked her view. She was absolutely furious.
’It’s one thing for that guy to be so full of himself, but to get in the way of her pursuit of true love? He was infuriating!’
Wait.
’Wait a minute. Could it be... it’s not that he’s being presumptuous, but that *he’s* the one who’s fallen for **? Is that why he did it on purpose?’
When she thought of this, Li Hongi felt a wave of disgust.
’That Hu Ziqiang... he’s short, scrawny, and dark-skinned. He has no strength and only earns seven work-points a day—that’s barely enough to feed himself.’
’A man like that thinks he’s worthy of my affection?’
The thought deeply unsettled Li Hongi.
She forgot all about Yun Hao and rushed back to her dorm. She had to figure out a way to reject Hu Ziqiang.
