After eating and drinking his fill, Chen JianShe rested for a bit. With nothing left for him to do, he got ready to head ho.
Gu Jiaojiao held up a large piece of pork, intending to give it to him.
Chen JianShe refused outright!
"Sister-in-law, aren’t you two hosting a banquet soon? Save this wild boar for the guests!"
It was indeed a lot of wild boar at, probably just enough for a banquet.
Chen JianShe’s words were casual, but Gu Jiaojiao froze for a mont before turning her head to look at Leng Yuan.
Leng Yuan’s expression was placid.
"The twenty-fourth of this month."
Gu Jiaojiao sneered.
’So, the banquet is a real thing, and I was completely clueless.’

Gu Jiaojiao took a deep breath and put the pork away.
"You can go now."

But seeing Gu Jiaojiao’s radiant smile, it looked like everything was fine.
The big goof scratched his head, then waved enthusiastically at the couple.

He had wanted to give his wife a surprise, but now Chen JianShe had blown his cover.
Gu Jiaojiao, however, had calmly locked the main gate. She turned back, her eyes fixing on Leng Yuan, her smile not quite reaching her eyes.
"My dearest husband, don’t you think you should explain to your darling wife just what Chen JianShe ant by that?"
Hearing her string those ’dears’ together was enough to send Leng Yuan’s head spinning.
He cleared his throat, his tone softening.
"It’s not that I didn’t want to tell you. I was planning it as a surprise."
Gu Jiaojiao didn’t feel like this was much of a surprise.
"More of a shock, you an."
She pictured it: a crowd of people suddenly showing up for the banquet, and her, completely clueless and grinning foolishly. She’d probably die of social embarrassnt right then and there.
Just the thought of it made her skin crawl!
Leng Yuan had never planned a surprise for anyone before. This was his first ti, and the idea had even co from Xu Chongshan.
He’d trusted him on the grounds that Xu Chongshan had a wife and a baby on the way.
But looking at his wife’s expression now, she didn’t seem happy at all.
He fell into thought for a mont. The image of his wife in her wedding dress, a lonely look in her eyes, surfaced in his mind, and his heart couldn’t help but ache for her.
"Our wedding was during the Qiushou, so we never had ti to host a proper banquet. Now that we’re both free, I thought we could find a ti to treat everyone to a al."
In the village, you weren’t considered truly married until you’d hosted the wedding banquet; just getting the certificate didn’t count.
Things had been hectic before, and their getting together had been rather sudden, so he hadn’t been prepared.

"Let tell you, don’t even think about it."
Leng Yuan said nothing, simply smiling with the confidence of a man who had already won.
