A few minutes later, Leng Shuang returned.

Her steps were quick, and her expression serious.

"I’ve confird it," she said. "Due to the scale of the incident, the bodies have been transferred under military supervision."

She paused briefly before continuing.

"They’re currently being held at the mortuary of Jiangnan Military Hospital."

The room fell silent for a mont.

Su Mo’s lips curved slightly.

"Perfect."

Yang Qingxi looked at him, her expression turning serious again. "I’m going with you."

"What’s the plan?" Leng Shuang asked.

Su Mo stood up slowly, stretching his shoulders.

"Simple."

His eyes held a faint glint.

"We go there... and ask the dead what really happened."

Leng Shuang: "Huh...?"

***

Jiangnan Military Hospital had never been this crowded before.

Police vehicles, military trucks, and dia vans lined the entrance, their flashing lights painting the early-morning sky in restless colours. Officers moved in and out with tense expressions, their voices low but urgent. The usual calm atmosphere of a hospital had been completely replaced by sothing heavier.

Outside the barricades, reporters gathered like a tide, microphones raised, caras rolling, each one trying to grab the first exclusive detail of the incident that had already shaken the entire city.

Among them stood Chen Lishi.

Unlike the others, who were practically shouting over each other, she maintained her composure as she stood in front of Captain Song Jinyu. Her posture was straight, her tone clear, but there was still a trace of unease in her eyes.

"Officer," she began, holding her microphone steadily, "have you identified the perpetrators behind this incident? Were the criminals acting on their own, or were they incited by soone?"

Song Jinyu looked at her with a serious expression. Her uniform was neat, but the fatigue in her eyes was hard to hide.

"From the clues we’ve gathered so far," he said, his voice firm, "this incident was not spontaneous."

Chen Lishi’s grip on the microphone tightened slightly.

Song Jinyu continued, "The attack inside the prison was coordinated. The guards were given no ti to call for reinforcents. The strikes were swift and synchronised."

She paused briefly, her gaze sweeping over the crowd.

"Without a leader... it would be impossible to organize that many criminals into a unified force and act so decisively."

A faint chill ran down Chen Lishi’s spine.

"So you’re saying..." she hesitated for a mont before continuing, "...there is soone behind all of this?"

Song Jinyu didn’t deny it.

"That is our current assessnt."

The murmurs among the reporters grew louder.

Chen Lishi swallowed slightly before asking her next question.

"If all those criminals are now united and ard... doesn’t that make them a dangerous force capable of causing serious harm to the city?"

Song Jinyu’s expression didn’t change, but her tone beca heavier.

"The police and military have already ford a joint special task force to handle this situation."

Her gaze sharpened.

"All involved will be apprehended."

She raised her hand slightly, gesturing toward the caras.

"I urge all citizens to remain calm but vigilant. If you notice anything suspicious, report it imdiately to the nearest police station or contact the hotline."

She recited the number clearly.

The caras captured everything.

The tension in the air only deepened.

---

While the interview continued outside, no one noticed three small figures slipping quietly through the air above.

Three sparrows.

They flew past the crowd, their tiny wings beating lightly, before slipping through an open window on one of the upper floors.

Inside, the atmosphere was drastically different from the heat outside—it was cold, sterile, and silent.

"Wow~ Master... I’m flying!"

Leng Shuang’s voice ca through in a barely suppressed whisper, her tone filled with excitent.

"This feels amazing... It’s completely different from wingsuiting!"

Her wings flapped slightly more than necessary, clearly betraying her enthusiasm.

"Don’t scream," Su Mo said flatly. "Have you ever seen a sparrow talking like that? If soone hears you, they’ll think this place is haunted."

Leng Shuang imdiately shut her beak—or rather, her voice.

"Sorry, Master..." she whispered, though the excitent in her tone didn’t fade much.

The three of them landed inside what appeared to be a utility room. Cleaning tools were stacked neatly along one side, and the faint sll of disinfectant lingered in the air.

Su Mo’s spiritual sense spread out silently.

Yang Qingxi did the sa.

"There are people outside the mortuary," Su Mo said after a mont. "Let’s wait."

Yang Qingxi, still in her sparrow form, gave a slight nod.

Su Mo glanced at Leng Shuang.

"Stay quiet."

"Yes, Master..."

There was a brief pause.

Then—

"...But this is really amazing."

Su Mo sighed.

"If you talk this much, next ti I’ll turn you into a parrot."

Before Leng Shuang could react, another soft voice chid in.

"I think a dodo bird would suit her better."

Yang Qingxi said it calmly, as if stating an obvious fact.

Leng Shuang didn’t get offended.

Instead, she tilted her head curiously.

"Isn’t that bird extinct?"

She turned toward Su Mo.

"Master, can your transformation technique work on things that don’t exist anymore?"

Su Mo paused for a mont, then answered honestly.

"As long as I have a clear image and sufficient information, I can transform into it."

Leng Shuang’s eyes lit up instantly.

"Then can you turn into a dragon?" she asked eagerly. "Or a Kraken?"

Su Mo blinked.

"Dragon, I understand," he said slowly. "But why Kraken?"

"It’s just a giant octopus."

Leng Shuang imdiately shook her head, her tone unusually firm.

"No! Master, you can’t insult Kraken!"

Her tiny wings flapped with emotion.

"It’s the overlord of the sea! Those massive tentacles, that terrifying presence... It’s so cool!"

She snorted lightly.

"How can a re giant lizard compare?"

Su Mo and Yang Qingxi both fell silent.

There was a brief, shared thought between them.

Absurd.

Leng Shuang, however, didn’t notice their reaction.

Her voice softened slightly as she added, "Once... I encountered a shipwreck."

Her tone slowed.

"I thought I was going to die."
