Chapter 108 : Your primary task now is to dunk on her.
Weakness and venom filled Ellie’s bloodshot eyes. Her gaze locked onto Eve’s face as her chest heaved violently. “You really know how to put on an act. Look at you now—so aloof and self-righteous. Are you satisfied?”
She spat, and the saliva landed near Eve’s feet.
“Why… why do you get to stand there safe and sound? Why do you get to stand at the Miss’s side? Why are you the one who moved into the main residence and gained everything?”
The more she spoke, the more agitated she beca. Her body writhed in the guards’ grasp. “What filthy trick did you use? Did you crawl into the Miss’s bed and seduce her until she lost her senses? Now that I have fallen to this state, are you pleased?!”
The vicious accusations and long-suppressed jealousy poured out, shrill and piercing. Sylvia’s brow furrowed. The warmth and kindness she had shown Eve earlier vanished completely.
She stepped forward half a pace, shielding Eve behind her.
“That is enough, Ellie. Watch your words.” Sylvia’s voice was not loud, yet it carried the authority unique to the Head Maid. In an instant, it overpowered Ellie’s hoarse shouting.
“I know you resent the change in position, but that is no excuse to irrationally vent all your anger on Eve.”
Her calm gaze rested on the disheveled woman before her. “Allowing you to leave Morninglight Manor is already the most dignified conclusion. The Miss personally instructed to handle this matter. You should understand the weight of that.”
At the ntion of the Miss, Ellie’s voice faltered. “The… Miss…”
“If you continue to show no sense of propriety and persist in your abuse…” Sylvia paused, her eyes sweeping toward the guards who stood waiting for instructions.
“I would not mind having them exert a little more effort. You understand that once rules are broken, a price must be paid. How heavy that price is… depends solely on my word.”
The warning fell like a bucket of cold water over Ellie’s jealousy-clouded mind. She panted heavily, glaring at Sylvia, then past her at Eve’s half-visible figure.
Yes, she knew. She knew all too well.
In this seemingly warm and welcoming manor, to violate the rules—especially by causing the Miss to lose face outside—led to consequences that were truly dreadful.
Broken limbs, abandonnt in so desolate wilderness to fend for oneself—these were not rumors. They were precedents.
Earlier, in her haze, she had vaguely heard the Head Maid say, “There is no need to break her limbs.” Now, recalling it clearly, she realized it was a form of rcy.
Her mind cleared considerably, yet she still clenched her teeth, her gaze fixed stubbornly on Eve. In the end, she could only let out a cold snort full of hatred.
Amid the tense silence, Eve, who had remained quiet the entire ti, slightly tilted her head and stepped out from Sylvia’s side. Her calm eyes t the gaze that wished to tear her apart.
“The mistake you made… was it because of ?”
“You—!” Caught off guard by the light question, Ellie roared without thinking. “Of course it was because of you!”
“If it were not for you, the Miss… the Miss would have spoken for out of consideration for all these years! It is all because of you, you wretch! I will never let—”
She froze mid-sentence.
The lighting around them was dim, provided only by a few wall lamps. Eve stood at the boundary between light and shadow. Most of her face was obscured, but her eyes—
They were strikingly crimson.
They gazed at Ellie without emotion, yet an inexplicable chill crept up her spine.
Ellie felt her scalp prickle. She did not even realize that cold sweat had already seeped across her forehead and down her back.
In truth, Eve had only ant to ask. She had just opened her mouth to continue when Sylvia raised a hand to stop her.
“Eve. There is no need to say more.”
She then turned to the two guards and gave a crisp command.
“Take her away.”
“Understood.” ×2
The guards nodded and moved efficiently and forcefully. One adjusted his hold while the other assisted, completely restraining any futile struggle from Ellie.
“No—wait! You cannot do this!” The fear that had montarily paralyzed her under those strange red eyes was instantly replaced by panic at the reality of being expelled.
She thrashed wildly, kicking and flailing. “This is unfair! Why?! I have given so much to this manor! Why am I the one being driven out?! I refuse! I refuse!!!”
“Stay still!”
Her resistance, however, was aningless before the overwhelming strength of the guards. It earned her only harsher restraint and impatient rebukes.
Carried away by force, she was taken toward the rear gate of the manor. Her unwilling cries echoed in the night, growing fainter and fainter until they vanished into the darkness.
Sylvia stood silently in place, watching the direction in which they had gone for several seconds before letting out a long sigh.
She then turned to face Eve once more. The gentle filter returned to her expression as she examined the girl carefully, worried that those malicious words might have affected her.
“It is all right now.” She reached out to smooth the strands of hair the night wind had disturbed. “She was simply soone who did not know her limits. It is not worth dwelling on.”
Eve blinked, having thought that the Head Maid intended to pat her head. She instinctively lowered it slightly and leaned toward the hovering hand, causing Sylvia to break into sudden laughter.
“Pfft…”
Sylvia suffered a critical blow—though no treatnt was required. She could only endure the pain and gently pat Eve’s head, while within her heart ten thousand horses galloped wildly.
My child, you are a… a… a suprely adorable white kitten!!!
The thirty-year-old woman nearly fainted from her racing heart. For a mont, she even rediscovered the aning of youth and longed to experience sothing passionate and unrestrained.
Unfortunately, no one was qualified to lay a hand on what belonged to the Miss. If only she had t her sooner…
Sylvia possessed enough self-awareness to know that she could only entertain such thoughts. She could only silently wish the two of them everlasting happiness and wipe away an imaginary tear for herself.
“It is late. Go back and accompany the Miss.”
“Why use the word ‘accompany’?”
“Ah… well… cough. It ans roughly the sa as ‘take care of.’ You understand, do you not?” Sylvia asked earnestly.
When Eve still shook her head, Sylvia found herself at a loss for a tactful explanation.
She could hardly say outright, The Miss is restless—or perhaps you are restless—so hurry back and share her bed.
“In any case… ah, it is late. Your primary task now is to remain by the Miss’s side and do everything you can to satisfy her. That should be clear enough, yes?”
Eve nodded, half understanding. She was about to speak again when Sylvia moved behind her and pushed her forward, propelling her along.
“Ah… Sister Vya, I forgot to say sothing.”
“Mm?”
“Good night.”
“Oh…” Sylvia reacted a beat too late. Covering her mouth, she laughed softly and reached out to pinch Eve’s cheek. “Good night. May you both have a dry and pleasant dream.”
