"Where is Bai Caishen?"
The director of the drama series Whisper of the Heart asked with a shaking head.
"It’s supposed to be celebration ti."
ng Rin said as she was touching up her makeup, "Well, the main star of the night always has to be late, right?"
She closed her small mirror and her bubbly self chirped. "No need to be so uptight about the timing today. We are not shooting, haha."
Dong Haoyu rolled eyes. "We don’t need to know that from an actress who was an irresponsible latecor herself."
She frowned. "You are not fun at all, Yuyu! I told you that I always miss my alarm."
He sneered. "But you never fix that alarm."
"H-How will I get a reason to be late then?" She sheepishly grinned.
"You finally spoke the truth. You think you are safe because the shooting is over? Director Wan still has good projects and you might lose your chance to act in them," he teased.
ng Rin laughed. "Hah! I know the way to Director Wan’s heart. He will never deny entry ticket~"
Wan Guanting grimaced. "So cheeky."
ng Rin then hugged Chow y’s arm, who was seated beside her. "yy, why are you in such a sour mood? You are not saying a word! This is the ti to celebrate, not stay mum like a statue."
She shrugged as she sipped on her wine. "Do I always have to look all smiling and giggling like you?"
"Smiling is cheerful~" she stuck out her tongue.
"Must be nice to live like you do," she dryly comnted.
From the corner of her eye, Chow y caught a certain soone’s figure about to cross where she was seated. She subtly leaned her chair backwards.
The chair hit a young man’s arm and his cara fell off his hands.
"I am sorry. But you should have been a little careful too. Who walks so close to the chairs?" she smiled.
The young man in question, Ke Yufei, stared at her.
Wan Guanting asked, "Hey did it break or sothing?"
He slowly bent and picked his cara. He said, "It’s fine."
The director scolded Chow y. "Be careful. Don’t forget that he has great editing skills apart from being a great caraman. What if he makes you look ugly?" he laughed teasingly.
Another hearty laughter rang from the other side of the table.
"Don’t be so an. Ugly is a touchy subject for won," Their co-star and colleague, Xin Manchu, chuckled. "Shan and Juan can attest to that. After all, the capable makeup artists of our set would about beauty the best."
Guo Juan didn’t feel so amused by being brought into the lilight. Chow y’s silent fury was evident in her expression. She simply didn’t add onto the joke any further lest they would suffer her wrath.
Dong Haoyu narrowed his eyes at Xin Manchu. "You are not so funny as you think you are, Manchu."
"You are not as sporty either," he shot back, his cufflink clinking against the table.
Chow y’s gaze darkened as she listened to the jokes and banter. For so reason, Mingshen’s words echoed in her mind and her mood dampened further.
"y, don’t bother about it so much, okay...?" He gently placed his palm over her hand.
She pursed her lips and slipped her hand away. "I told you not to do such things publicly, didn’t I?" She whispered.
He awkwardly smiled. "Yeah...I am sorry. I was just worried about you."
It was exactly at that mont when the source of her bitterness himself royally walked in. Her mouth slightly fell open seeing the sa pair she had t in the lift just a few minutes ago.
Everybody raised their heads at the sa ti with a look filled with surprise and curiosity at the two new faces. Mingshen’s face especially caused a much larger stir in the atmosphere as ng Rin and the two makeup artists almost forgot to breathe.
Bai Caishen looked around the table. Jia noticed his gaze pause for a fraction of a mont as it landed at Chow y.
He then smiled. "Apparently, Rin’s virus caught and I got late. Apologies."
"Hey!" ng Rin cried with grievance. "Why is everybody targeting my lateness today? This is so not fair."
Xin Manchu shrugged. "Then stop being late and you will be excused of tardiness jokes."
"Hmph!"
Wan Guanting was also left shell-shocked.
Who are these people?
Bai Caishen introduced them. "I t these lovely people today. She is Song Jia. I t her at the park. He is Yang Mingshen. I heard from him that his mother is my fan. As a gesture of gratitude, I invited them in."
Jia said, "I really hope we aren’t a bother."
Mingshen looked bored with the pleasantries.
ng Rin gasped. "How could you cheat on , Caishen? Did you forget all the lovely ti we spent together? How we are the closest to each other. How heartless to bring another woman!"
Xin Manchu scoffed and his cufflink chid against the table again as he took his glass. "There you go flirting again. Shaless."
"Shut up!"
Bai Caishen smiled.
She stuck out her tongue and greeted Jia. "Caishen’s friends are our friends~ Please do join us! Another handso face to drool at. Who wouldn’t want your company?"
You don’t know what you are asking for, Jia thought.
Mingshen smiled as he nudged Jia. "See you wanted to et that ’imaginary’ woman who would want to spend an evening with . I propose you have a very hearty talk with her, especially about ."
"Of course. I will make sure to ntion my special gift too," she sneered.
His eyes narrowed.
As everybody was now seated, Jia felt a strange tension in the air. Her keen senses thought that sothing was off. That sense of disturbance mainly ca from Chow y’s direction, whose fierce gaze stared at Mingshen not so welcomingly.
Wan Guanting curiously asked, "Are you two models by any chance?"
Before Jia could answer, Chow y did so herself with a disdain on her lips. "No. They aren’t models. This man is Dr. Yang Mingshen."
It took them for a mont but eventually, everybody got there.
"You an, THAT Dr. Yang?"
Mingshen was extrely pleased. "Yours truly."
Wan Guanting gasped. "The heir of such a prestigious family is here? I-It’s an honor to et you."
Xin Manchu chuckled. "Damn you Caishen. You directly scoured the top creamy layer right there."
"It’s a pleasant surprise for too."
Wan Guanting then expectantly asked Jia, "Are you from a similar background as well?"
Jia smiled and shook her head. "Far from it actually. Both career and status wise. My family is like any other family. Certainly not the sa as Mingshen’s family’s status. Career wise, I am a cop. I work at Beijing Police Headquarters."
The air froze as soon as those words ca out of her lips.
