"Favor?" Jia knitted her brows.
Xin Manchu nodded. "He had a lot of influence and lots of projects in his pipeline. Getting cast will be a golden chance for anybody but for y to get a lead role in any of it at this age was...a tad difficult. I heard now and then that she wasn’t getting any roles she wanted in other projects because Director Wan was blocking those chances."
Jia’s eyes squinted and she threw in her net.
"Just like you weren’t."
"Sorry?"
"I heard that there were high chances for you to get a lead role in Wan Guanting’s next project. But you were cast aside at the last mont."
Xin Manchu smiled after a mont. "A lead role? How co the actor himself doesn’t know about it? It’s nothing like that. I wonder where you heard it from."
"One of my friends who is very invested in the entertainnt industry’s news. They also have to say that the entertainnt agency that Bai Caishen and ng Rin are a part of could soon be taken over."
His brows furrowed and he took a sip. "Really? That’s news to ."
She shrugged. "All just rumors floating around apparently."
"Better to treat rumors as rumors only," he chuckled. "Is there so new developnt in this case? I saw you hurriedly leave the hotel."
She watched him. "Apparently Dr. Yang likes to drop in shock bombs."
"Shock bombs?"
"Yes. According to the reports, Wan Guanting didn’t die from suffocation but a cardiac arrest."
His eyes widened and the glass almost slipped off his hand. "Say what? Cardiac arrest? When?"
"At the ti he was suffocated."
He stared at her, dumbfounded. "That’s...unbelievable. Cardiac arrest huh..."
"Sadly yes. He also found traces of a nasal decongestant and sleeping pills."
That left him even more befuddled. "The hell?"
Jia lightly nodded. "So I just got curious. I heard you were handling the drinks that night so I wondered if you saw anything suspicious along these lines?"
Xin Manchu was still recovering from the shock bomb dropped on him. "I didn’t see anything. I was just pouring the drinks, that’s all...But Director Wan was frequently putting his glass on the table to dance and fool around. I think...y had the most chances to mix in anything suspicious. She wasn’t really participating in the party and was just seated around the center table the whole ti. That lover boy Haoyu was accompanying her from ti to ti," he snorted.
"I see."
Suddenly, a tiny flash of light made Jia blink her eyes and she imdiately noticed a figure peeking at them from a distance. Her brow arched.
She smiled at him and got up. As she did, she noticed a hickey on the other side of his neck.
"Enjoy your evening. I will take my leave."
—
Jia followed the faint sliver of light that had caught her attention and soon noticed a figure promptly escaping into the building.
"Guo Juan, right?"
She froze on the spot and gulped as she turned. "Miss. Song..."
Jia smiled. "I won’t eat you."
She tensely clasped her hands together. "Sorry...I didn’t an to peek like that. I was just p-passing through and saw you two talking."
"But you didn’t leave because you were curious about what we might be talking about."
"...A little."
Jia ran down the conversation to her which earned the sa reaction as Xin Manchu. "C-Cardiac arrest!?" She covered her mouth and let out a gasp. "That’s horrible..."
She said, "Xin Manchu feels that she had good chances to mix in the sleeping pills since she wasn’t really partying."
"That cannot be true!" She exclaid tearfully as her fists clenched. "You cannot believe anything that Xin Manchu says."
Jia blinked. "Why?"
"Because he hates Miss. Chow. He has every reason to fra her."
"Can you tell more about it?"
Guo Juan trembled and tried hard to not let her tears fall. "I was...I was Xin Manchu’s makeup artist in the beginning. He was charming and fun to be with and I f-fell for him. I thought he wouldn’t reciprocate my feelings but he did and we secretly dated for a while."
Jia slightly widened her eyes. "Oh."
"But when Zeng Shan joined the crew, sohow Xin Manchu started to spend more ti with her. He even replaced with her as his makeup artist and things got really ugly. He just lost interest in and I didn’t know what to do..."
Tears fell which she gently wiped. "I then beca Miss. Chow’s makeup artist. She is a very nice person to work with and soon we beca closer as colleagues. She asked one day if there were so problems between and him and I told her everything. Miss. Chow got extrely furious and she even slapped him for my sake."
’You fucking disgusting playboy! You dare fool around with Zeng Shan when you already had a girlfriend. Pathetic! Don’t fucking show your face to Juan anymore or I will wring your neck myself!’
She wryly smiled. "That night too...I heard so voices from Zeng Shan’s room. Our rooms are beside each other. I could faintly hear Xin Manch’s voice. They were making out," her expression churned with disgust, "In fact, Xin Manchu was already with her imdiately after the party ended. He went into her room right in front of , n-not even caring that before we were..." tears rimd her eyes.
Guo Juan angrily laughed. "That’s why Xin Manchu purposely said last night to the reporters about how Miss. Chow angrily left Director Wan’s office. He found it a good chance to take revenge for that slap by insinuating more suspicion on her. And now he is again pointing at her with the drinks. Don’t believe anything he says! He is actually happy seeing Miss. Chow’s plight!"
Jia slowly asked, "So you think she didn’t have any reason to kill Director Wan?"
Guo Juan stared at her and faintly looked away. "...No. I didn’t feel any such resentnt from Miss. Chow towards Director Wan. I believe she couldn’t have killed him."
