The sa night Jia couldn’t get any sleep. She kept twisting and turning on the bed, thinking about the case.
"Xin Manchu had paused for a mont when I said that he was probably cast out of the project," she mumbled to herself. "He is lying. He knows that it’s not a rumor. Then that gives him a motive too. And if Guo Juan is right then it makes sense why Chow y would be a perfect scapegoat."
But then did Chow y really kill Wan Guanting?
She rembered her conversation with Guo Juan.
’No. I didn’t feel any such resentnt from Miss. Chow towards Director Wan.’
"She knows sothing. She averted her eyes when she said that. Considering that they had beco close at work, it’s possible that Chow y told her sothing about Wan Guanting. But she doesn’t want to reveal that because she feels that it will only worsen her case. She wants to protect her."
Protect her...
"ng Rin, Guo Juan and Dong Haoyu like Chow y. Xin Manchu and Ke Yufei not quite. Bai Caishen..."
She couldn’t figure out if Bai Caishen was neutral or hostile towards Chow y. But then again, Wan Guanting was murdered, not her. So did Bai Caishen have any motive?
’Apparently, there are also talks about the production company Wan Guanting working at being taken over. It is also closely tied with Bai Caishen and ng Rin’s entertainnt agency. But it seed he was against this takeover.’
Jia narrowed her eyes.
"Sowhere I feel this is linked...The takeover that Wan Guanting didn’t want. The part where he angrily stord off the hotel. But what does the production company takeover have to do with the crew here?"
She pressed the space between her brows.
There are just too many loose threads that don’t tie up to anything.
Jia got off the bed and decided to head out. The one thing she hadn’t done yet was to properly study Wan Guanting’s room. She knew it was out of her jurisdiction but she couldn’t shake off the vague and formless feelings in her mind and Lei Honghui wasn’t showing any signs to pry any further than Chow y’s involvent.
She made her way from Wing A to Wing B, crossing along the sidelines of the big swimming pool.
It’s so dark here, she thought.
Jia made her way to the B wing’s reception and cleared her throat. "Hello."
"Good evening, Mam," the receptionist politely smiled.
"I am really sorry for the trouble but can you get Mr. Wan Guanting’s room’s key card? That day with all the chaos after his death was discovered, I believe I dropped a very important thing close to and now I am not getting it."
She hesitated. "But Mr. Lei has prohibited anybody from entering the room till the investigation is over."
"I understand but it’s really important to and I am sure I dropped it in his room only. It will be just for a few minutes only. I won’t disturb anything."
The receptionist didn’t doubt that since Jia was a cop herself and she had quite expertly handled the situation till Lei Honghui had arrived.
"O-Okay...But Mam, please don’t tell anybody or I will-"
"Of course not! Nobody will know a thing."
I am sorry for making you lie! Jia felt guilty for making her her accomplice.
The receptionist quickly handed Jia the key card and she thanked her. Limping, she made her way to the lift and waited.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. A cop breaking in like a thief in sobody’s room like that~ Caught a guilty one~"
Jia stiffened. She turned and cursed her luck. "For once, can you just stay put in your room!?"
Mingshen grinned, leaning against the wall. "I didn’t co here to stay in my room, Spicy. I ca here to follow you like a shadow wherever you go~ And right now I believe I am witnessing a cri before . Hmm, what should I do? Oh yes, calling that snarky supervisor seems to be a good idea."
"Don’t you dare threaten !" She pushed his phone back into his pocket which he was about to take out.
"Seeing you break your own rules like that gives such a sexy feeling, Spicy. Finally you are doing what’s supposed to be done. Breaking rules. I am so touched to see this mont-"
"Oh my God stop talking!"
"I will if you include in your secret excursion," his eyes glead wickedly.
Her gaze darkened. The lift arrived just then and opened with a ding.
"Fine, co with ! But don’t touch or move anything in the room or we are screwed."
"Can I touch you then?" He innocently blinked.
"Sure if you don’t love your fingers anymore," she sneered.
Reaching the twelfth floor, Jia took a quick scan of the corridor and quickly opened Wan Guanting’s room with the key card. They stepped in and closed the door behind them.
The scene was kept as is as the attendant had discovered. Nothing was touched or moved back to its place. Jia took out her mobile and took so pictures.
"I believe that’s breaking a whole set of other rules~" Mingshen chuckled.
Jia glared back at him. "Quiet."
She then slowly walked around the room, trying to think of what could have happened that night.
Dance, songs, drinks...
Only Chow y was keeping her distance from the party, but she was at a place where she could easily reach the glass and quickly drop in so sleeping pills without anybody’s notice.
Or maybe Xin Manchu discreetly could before he handed out the drinks.
Or maybe sobody else.
"But whoever it was, they didn’t mix in both the decongestant and the sleeping pill..." she muttered.
No matter how much she gave it a thought, she couldn’t convince herself if Lei Honghui’s theory that Wan Guanting might have mixed in himself. It sounded too convenient.
She ca across the balcony and through the balcony door saw the A wing building afar. Haoyu’s room was opposite this room and through the slightly open curtains, she could faintly see him pacing back and forth. She could sense the tension in his movents as if he was desperate to help Chow y. The lights were on in ng Rin’s room on the fourteenth floor, but the curtains over her balcony door were drawn. Bai Caishen’s room was dark.
Mingshen asked while strolling around bored, "What are you thinking?"
"I am thinking that if Chow y had planned to kill Wan Guanting for argunt sake, then she won’t be that stupid to do it knowing that she would be captured in the caras, right?"
