Chow y opened her weary eyes. The white ceiling of Tianjin Bureau’s custody room stared back at her blankly. The door opened and Supervisor Lei Honghui stepped in.
He pulled back a chair and sat facing her, narrowing his eyes. "Where have you kept the sleeping pills, Miss. Chow? You used that to make Wan Guanting invalid to fight you, right?"
She chuckled tiredly. "Well if you didn’t find it anywhere then how would I know? No matter what questions you ask, my answer won’t change. I didn’t kill Director Wan."
"Then why did you go to et him at the sa ti as he was killed?"
"It was supposed to be a private conversation."
"Not a conversation but a private agenda to kill him. There is no lack of reasons for you to hate Wan Guanting. I dug into Wan Guanting’s history and past."
She froze.
"There are so huge debits from his bank accounts made to nurous hotels. The common link in all that expenditure are two things. Wan Guanting’s money and the woman with whom he visited to all these hotels. You."
Chow y peered into his sharp gaze in silence.
"With this evidence in my hands right now, I will ask it straightforwardly. Did you and Wan Guanting share any relationship?"
Her expression said nothing.
"I have the right to have my legal representation. Have you contacted my entertainnt agency?"
"We have. They are trying to get you a lawyer."
Chow y smiled. "It’s been two days. They are still trying to find a lawyer for ?"
"I am telling you what they have told ."
"Which actually ans that they are abandoning ."
"I cannot comnt on that. What I can do is talk about your motives. Whether you admit it or not, you and Wan Guanting were in a physical relationship. You hated it because he was forcing you in order for you to get the good roles that you wanted."
Chow y inwardly clenched her jaw.
Lei Honghui continued. "Or maybe you hated him because of the forced beauty treatnts he made you take. Or maybe because he ddled a lot with your shooting contracts. From what I found, you always got a much lower pay than the other actors despite being capable and talented but Wan Guanting did nothing about it. You wanted to be paid fairly but who listens to actresses?"
She hugged her arms closer, feeling slightly chilly. "Please leave. I have nothing to say."
He didn’t press on further. He bleakly said, "Miss. Chow. After looking into the past, I understand what sort of a man Wan Guanting was. I really cannot bla you for your hatred towards him. But murder is never an option. If you confess it now, the court might be lenient with your punishnt."
She said nothing.
Lei Honghui left it at that. "I will take my leave. For your information, Mr. Dong Haoyu is waiting outside to et you. I will let him in."
"Don’t," she plainly said, "I don’t want to et anybody."
"He has heard that response many tis now and he is persistent to et you."
She didn’t respond.
"I will let him in."
He left and a few monts later Dong Haoyu ca in.
"yy..."
She looked up at him and her eyes slightly widened seeing his shriveled face that was devoid of his usual handso smile. He took a seat on the sa chair where Lei Honghui was seated.
Chow y looked away. "I think I was clear I didn’t want to et anybody."
"Not even ? I wanted to see you, y."
"Why would you want to et an ugly woman in jail?"
He smiled ever so softly. "You are always the most beautiful woman for , y. And you aren’t in jail yet."
She chuckled. "What does it matter? It’s just a matter of ti. My agency has abandoned ."
"I will find the best lawyer-"
"No," she icily cut him off. Her wintry gaze fell on him unforgivingly. "Not anymore. I won’t let a man hurt anymore. I had enough with you all."
His eyelashes trembled. "I will never hurt you, y. I love you a lot."
"Your feelings are just a burden to , Haoyu. I have said this to you many tis. Why do you still insist on not giving up?"
"Love makes you do very silly things at tis, y."
She stiffened with a certain mory of the past surfacing in her mind.
"What will it take for you to forget ?"
"Nothing," he calmly but determinedly affird.
Chow y looked straight at him. "I have slept with Director Wan. Many tis. Just for the sake of my career, I have sold my body to a man who was my father’s age."
To her shock, instead of seeing disgust and outrage in his eyes, a tear slipped down it past his cheek. "I love you, y."
He cautiously but gently held her hand in his hand, always making sure that his actions weren’t spooking her. He rested his forehead on the back of her hand and whispered, "I am sorry we couldn’t et sooner. I am sorry I wasn’t there to protect you sooner. It was all my fault, y."
He slowly lifted his head and dropped a feathery kiss on her hand. He smiled. "I will get you out of this place, y. Your agency might abandon you. Your fans might abandon you. But I would never leave your side, y. I love you."
Dong Haoyu got up from his seat and left the room. Chow y stared at her hand that still lingered with the warmth of his tears and kiss. A bad foreboding clutched her heart.
What is he going to do? I don’t want him to do anything stupid for my sake!
—
Lei Honghui felt a presence looming over him. He raised his head and saw Dong Haoyu standing before him.
"Are you done eting with Miss. Chow? You still have so more ti left."
Dong Haoyu stared at him. "You should release y. She didn’t kill Wan Guanting."
He sighed. "Mr. Dong. I understand your feelings, but-"
"I killed Wan Guanting. You have arrested the wrong person."
