Jia walked out in the pleasant sunshine the next day, wheeling her suitcase outside. At a distance, she saw the drama crew, except ng Rin, also all set and ready to leave. They were more than happy to leave Tianjin and escape the horror that engulfed them from the past few days.
Only Zeng Shan, Xin Manchu’s girlfriend, had an aggravating expression as she kept throwing silent daggers at everybody.
Jia raised her brow.
I thought it was just a fling between them but it seems things were serious between them.
At least, it is for her, she thought.
"Miss. Song."
Jia turned and was surprised to see Lei Honghui. He was in his civilian clothes.
"Supervisor Lei. Good morning."
He nodded. "Good morning. I heard what happened yesterday with Dong Haoyu. I would have never believed that there were two culprits. Guess your initial assessnt was right."
She lightly smiled.
He then made a face. "I cannot believe that he will be handed off to Dr. Yang instead of being in jail. It seems all too fishy to . I did have a word with my higher ups. But unfortunately, our hands are tied. We cannot interfere with the contract, not when sobody like Dr. Yang is personally involved."
She lowered her gaze. "Indeed..."
She then asked, "You ca here so early in the morning. Is everything alright?"
"Yeah. At least I think it is."
She blinked. "aning?"
He looked a little hesitant and contemplated for a mont. Eventually, he sighed and said, "It seems Xin Manchu is hiding sothing."
"Like what?"
"I am also not sure. It’s true that he mixed in the cold dicine but when I asked how he ca to learn about Wan Guanting’s hypertension problem, he strangely tenses up. He said that the director casually ntioned it to him once but from what I learned about him, Wan Guanting was very particular in not revealing his health condition to anyone. Probably because he didn’t want anybody to see him weak."
"Possible," she slowly nodded.
"That’s why I find it hard to believe that he would so casually give away so important information about himself to Xin Manchu. Not even in a drunken state because he knew how to hold his liquor. I have asked him this multiple tis since his arrest, but he has no clear answer to give."
Lei Honghui threw a glance at Zeng Shan and said, "Then there is his girlfriend. She visits him everyday and keeps throwing a tantrum like a child to release him. At first, she was very distraught about his arrest, but then she said to that she strongly feels there is sobody who threatened Xin Manchu to kill the director."
This is sothing new, she wondered.
"Why does she feel that way?"
He shook his head. "She doesn’t have a definite answer. She admits what he did with Guo Juan was wrong and in general, he is quite a playboy but she doesn’t feel he can be a killer. Even if he did, there must be sobody else behind it."
A soft thud sound echoed from behind them and they looked back.
ng Rin stood rooted in her place. Her purse had slipped down from her hands.
"Oh, Miss. ng. Good morning," Lei Honghui greeted her.
It was a battle to keep her thoughts straight. "My bad haha!"
Bending down, she quickly grabbed her purse.
Jia asked, "Are you feeling cold? You are trembling a little."
She felt her throat clam up. "N-not really...Just having a little headache."
She edgily looked up at Lei Honghui and tried to sound casual as she said, "I am sorry I heard you talking about...so third person involved?"
"It’s Miss. Zeng’s hypothesis that sobody forced Mr. Xin."
ng Rin could feel her heart stop in her chest as if it forgot to beat. "Oh..."
"But nothing has been proved yet-"
"Because you are not doing your job!" Zeng Shan marched angrily towards him.
Her red eyes looked puffy and tired and a look of indignation marred her face.
"I am telling you it’s definitely sobody else!"
Jia asked, "Miss. Zeng, the court doesn’t take feelings into account. If you know sothing concrete then-"
"I do! Manchu told himself one day that things would get better for him," she sniffled. "He was d-drunk though, but he said he will bag a very important role soon! He t sobody who promised him this. Why don’t you nab him!?"
ng Rin had her gaze fixed to the ground as if she saw a ghost.
Is she...talking about him...?
"Who is this person you speak of, Miss. Zeng?" Lei Honghui asked.
"I...I don’t know..." she bit her lip. "Manchu didn’t tell that. But there is definitely soone!"
ng Rin felt as if sobody was tightening a noose around her neck.
"U-um...are you alright?"
She gasped in shock and looked up to see a concerned Bojing staring at her. Shilin, too, arrived with slow steps, acting his part of an injured person.
"You are s-sweating quite a lot," Bojing panicked.
"Y-yeah m-my stomach is hurting so that’s why..."
Jia caught her whispering words and her brows furrowed.
Didn’t she say it was a headache?
Bojing quickly said, patting her back in an attempt to ease her discomfort, "That’s not good. I-I have so stomach ache dicine."
"No, no, I am alright."
Shilin smiled. "Senior Lu is right. You look very sick."
"Sick? My Rin is sick?"
A new and forceful voice echoed from a distance that made ng Rin feel as if she was dropped straight to hell. She recognized that voice but refused to believe in its presence here. Before any other thoughts could grip her mind, she saw a man’s shadow approaching her.
Jia stared at the new face curiously.
Who is he?
The man in the black coat rushed towards ng Rin but halted in his steps upon seeing two unknown faces standing so close to her.
For so reason, Bojing didn’t like his uncomfortable gaze and tears pooled in his eyes.
D-d-di-did I do sothing wrong?
Shilin simply blinked at the man with a polite smile, unfazed by anything.
The man slowly said, "I see that...you have been taking quite good care of my Rinrin."
