The hospital in question was a dium sized one that catered to nearby localities. It was quite far from Ehuang’s ho so it begged a question.
"They ca so far to et a shady doctor so of course the surgeries were pre-planned. The accident lie isn’t holding up anymore," Huojin remarked.
"Pathetic lies never hold on for much longer anyway," Mingshen said without much expression.
Huojin glanced at him and thought back to the ti at the bureau.
"What are you going to do with her badge?"
"Keep it safe with ."
"It will be plenty safe in the bureau."
"Like how her career will be?" He t his gaze with a hawk-like gaze.
"Don’t forget that that career you are talking about is at risk because of you."
Mingshen’s eyes narrowed.
"With Jia’s confession, it is practically impossible to get her out of that shithole. Matters related to kids are anyway very sensitive."
"It seems you don’t favor my decision that much."
"I am in favor of Ehuang to live a normal life as much as you do, but I cannot see Jia getting burned by it."
He sneered. "Aww, is this the ’caring’ part of friendship Spicy talks about?"
Huojin’s gaze turned extrely frigid. He took one threatening step towards him and spoke very quietly, "You have no idea what it took Jia to beco a Superintendent. Now one confession is ruining everything for her. I have fucking no clue how to help her. Your surgery is a reality and if you are out of taking its responsibility scope, then everything falls on Jia. And it has far reaching consequences than you think."
Mingshen icily retorted. "Her badge will be safe so buzz off. I am already not in a very good mood so don’t make it worse."
"I don’t care if your mood is better or worse. I just want Jia to be out of that custody room," his jaw gnashed. "This is not just about her badge but her honor as a cop too."
"That honor is not so weak to be shaken so easily, ’caring’ friend."
He chuckled wryly. "You don’t understand, Mingshen. The most fragile part of this whole situation is her honor only. It is in a position to be shaken very easily."
Mingshen held his hard stare at him.
Huojin pressed his temple. "I am sorry for my temper but Jia is not as strong as she tries to give that impression. I know just by one look at her. She has no plan of how she would get out of this situation unscathed. She is only focusing on Ehuang right now."
What are your plans for getting yourself ’unarrested?’
I will figure sothing out.
"So you better help her out. What you did is very admirable. Not only Jia but I respect you a lot too. But I also cannot see her like this. This seriously cannot be the end of her career."
Mingshen stared at him in silence and left off to enter the hospital. Huojin sighed and followed him.
They just stepped into its lobby when they spotted a male nurse carrying sothing from the ambulance van inside. At the sa ti, his gaze fell on the duo and the box slipped off his hands. His expression changed in a matter of seconds.
Huojin muttered. "Okay, he slls bad news-"
The nurse suddenly sprinted off in the other direction, making Huojin exclaim. "Stop!"
Huojin chased after him, who had already climbed off a wall and rushed towards a narrow alley. Huojin didn’t have ti to go around the hospital’s entrance and lose him, so he quickly climbed the wall too and jumped on the other side.
It opened into a nearby street market where it was fairly easy to lose the man, but Huojin quickly spotted him. The nurse was making a ruckus, crashing into shops and carts on his escape route.
Huojin ran after him, jumping over the obstacles. The street market branched out into many small alleys and the nurse kept running and hopping around to lose the cop behind him. But whenever he turned, he would still find Huojin stubbornly chasing after him.
Fuck, why am I not able to lose him!?
He was like a lion who refused to let go of his prey’s sight.
I will just lose him in these alleys!
He took zig-zag turns, not thinking about anything and once he was far enough, he stopped in one alley and gasped for breath. His legs felt numb with all the running around.
Fuck, fuck, fuck! What are they doing here!?

He took one step but felt an eerie chill at the back followed by the tip of sothing sharp poking the back of his neck.
The nurse froze hard.
"My scalpel will go tear ur neck faster than your legs will be able to take you out of the alley so beware," a cold, haunting voice breathed behind him.
Huojin reached just in ti and blocked away the entrance for him too.
F-fuck he managed to follow all the way here!
Huojin aid his gun at his chest and warned. "Raise your hands and quietly stand against the wall. You must be Xie Jietang’s helper."
"I-I don’t know what you are talking about..."
"Then why did you run away?"
Sweat bled through his forehead and Mingshen’s presence at the back was akin to several knives stabbing him rcilessly.
"You are well aware of his under the table surgeries, right?" Huojin asked.
"I don’t know."
"Were you a part of those surgeries too done to a young girl almost ten years ago?"
"L-Look man, you are misunderstanding sothing-"
"Don’t move," Mingshen suddenly ordered him to stay still.
"What’s wrong?" Huojin asked.
Mingshen’s eyes squinted and with his scalpel, he moved around the hair strands at the back of his neck.
His brow ever so slowly arched as he recognized that all too familiar tattoo.
