With his scalpel, Mingshen grazed away his hair to which the nurse stiffened imdiately.
"She."
Huojin’s eyes squinted. "She? Wait a minute...are you talking about those goons who had the She tattoo on their necks?"
"The very sa."
Huojin imdiately rembered Zhang Feiyu. His wife, Zhang Luqi, was taken hostage by three goons who had this tattoo on their necks. Jia and Officer Lim fortunately saved her in the nick of ti, but a fatal accident gripped her the very sa day and she now lay in a coma.
"It was your people who barged into Zhang Luqi’s house that day."
"Who? Who is Zhang Luqi?" The nurse looked dumbfounded.
"Don’t feign ignorance!"
"I don’t know who she is!"
"Your ignorance is so adorable," Mingshen chuckled. "But how long will it last? So you are that helper involved with that doctor. Were you there ten years ago too when the surgeries were done on Ehuang?"
"L-Look, I don’t know what you are talking about."
"Then why did you run away?" Huojin smiled. "Because you knew why we ca to the hospital. With Ehuang’s court case, the doctor has co in quite a lilight and not in a good lilight I must say."
Huojin asked, "How do you know Xie Jietang? And tell us everything about Ehuang’s surgeries and all those other illegal procedures you do."
"I-I don’t know-"
"Guess then you will only talk in the bureau. Fine by ."
He trembled and was urgently eyeing a route for escape but before he could look for it, he started coughing hard.
"Enough with your acting. Start talking-"
But the nurse started puking blood and he collapsed. Mingshen imdiately bent down on his knee and checked his pulse. But he was dead in a matter of seconds.
"What? Is he dead?" Huojin was flabbergasted.
"Yes."
"What the hell...wait he died just like you talked about Wang Lei. That drug supplier. He died as soon as you caught his gang. And now him...That strange chip seems to be in all these n that sohow tracks them and they learn if they try to sell out any answers."
Mingshen narrowed his eyes.
"How the hell are we supposed to find them? If we catch them, they die. We won’t get anywhere with our interrogation like this," Huojin pinched his brows. "And this She again. Who the hell is this woman? Who is this person controlling all these n? How co they are also involved with the surgeries? There was Wang Lei and then the people who wanted sothing out of Zhang Luqi but failed. Now they are involved with this case too..."
Suddenly, it occurred to him. "Wait a minute. These surgeries happened when Ehuang was still a child. So what...has this person and her gang been around ten years or more?"
Mingshen tilted his head. "Like Spicy said, "Ehuang cannot be the only victim."
"This...this is horrible."
There were too many questions but no answers.
"Then Zhang Luqi too. I don’t get it. What did such horrible people have anything to do with her?" He frowned.
"That is sothing only her husband can answer."
—
Zhang Feiyu stared at the nurse’s picture who had died before Mingshen and Huojin just an hour ago.
"Who is this person...?"
"He is Zhan Zhen. He is a nurse working in a hospital. Has your wife ever ntioned this na to you?"
He shook his head. "No. She doesn’t know him."
Huojin paused. "Then Wang Lei?"
He replied in negative again. "Luqi doesn’t know these people. Who are they?"
"Are you aware of Yu Ehuang’s court case?"
"I have heard about it. It is a very sad affair," he said solemnly.
"This nurse I showed you was part of the gang and who helped the doctor with the surgeries."
Zhang Feiyu’s eyes widened. "Oh. But...why are you asking about these n?"
"Because we figured that these two n - Wang Lei and Zhan Zhen belonged to the sa gang from which the three goons attacked your wife."
It was as if lightning struck him. "What! That’s impossible...what gang? W-why would they want to harm Luqi? She has nothing to do with any such violent gangs!"
Mingshen spoke at that point. "But the violent gangs surely have sothing to do with your wife. They wanted sothing from her. That is what she told before the accident."
Zhang Feiyu was confused. But he still tried to think about the matter as hard as he could.
"I don’t really understand what the goons wanted from my wife? We are not any influential or rich people..."
Huojin suggested. "Maybe you aren’t aware but she sohow got involved with this gang and she never told you about it?"
His eyes stretched wide again. "No, no! My Luqi would never-"
"I am not saying it with any bad intentions but perhaps accidentally? Maybe she saw sothing that she wasn’t supposed to or...she got sothing or any object that was dangerous to this gang so they ca after her."
"But then Luqi would have told about it. We never hide things from each other..." his tears fell.
"How sure are you? Maybe she didn’t tell you precisely because she was aware that it was dangerous and you could get into trouble too."
"In that case, Luqi would have definitely told . She is a very direct person and doesn’t like beating around the bush. She would have warned to act cautiously."
Mingshen raised his brow. "Even so, she had nothing to tell you? Three goons barge in your house to torture your wife and get whatever it was they wanted, so there must be so background that happened before everything blasted."
Zhang Feiyu looked away, thinking hard.
"Think about it carefully," Huojin said, "Try to rember the days before the accident. Did sothing unusual happen? Was Zhang Luqi acting differently or worried for so reason?"
He closed his eyes and did as Huojin told.
"There wasn’t really anything unusual that she told ...But yes Luqi was indeed looking a little fidgety for a few days. No, not fidgety exactly...but excited perhaps? Or was it riled up?"
Huojin asked, "Did she ever ntion what it was that got him riled up?"
He was stumped. "...No. That is strange actually. Luqi tells even the smallest of things...But it had sothing to do with her workplace because she was working continuously till late nights for so ti."
