Where Jia and Mingshen were infiltrating the gathering, Zexi was on her own mission to infiltrate Zhang Luqi’s office space. It was late in the evening and everybody had left for the day except for her who gave so excuse to stay behind.
Zexi took a glance around and after confirming that she was indeed alone, she quickly headed to Zhang Luqi’s cubicle area. Sweat ford on her forehead and her heartbeats fastened.
If only Teng Bo wouldn’t be so hostile! She sobbed.
For the last few days, she had been trying hard to casually get close to her in attempts to find out more about Zhang Luqi but it was as if she had completely shut her off from any conversation. The re fact that Zexi worked under Xun Chunlei despised her.
Ugh, she is so stubborn!
Zexi first looked through the files lying on top of her desk, but she didn’t find anything useful. The next stop were the drawers and she quickly rummaged through the files.
"These are all quality and assurance audit files..." she murmured. "And these are all different test cases reports..."
She clutched her temple.
What should I look for anyway? It’s not like I will conveniently get so file with She written all over it.
How would a ga company...be connected to She?
Zexi moved over to the big drawer at last but it was locked.
Damn it!
She looked around and released a sigh. "There is nothing here..."
She glanced around at all the office computers and blinked.
Wait...what about her laptop?
She swiftly took out her phone and called Zhang Feiyu, his number which she got from Huojin.
"Hello. Who is this?"
"I am Zexi," she was more of whispering than talking and she didn’t know why. "I don’t have ti to explain everything to you, but I am working with Mo Huojin and Song Jia regarding your wife’s case."
"Yes the cops...I-Is this about her accident?" his voice was close to choking.
"Yes. That’s why I called you. Is your wife’s laptop still at your house?"
"Luqi’s laptop? Yeah...it should be in her office bag. Wait, let check. I am at ho only..."
Zexi heard so rummaging sounds and a minute later, he said, "Yes, it’s there."
She sighed in relief. "Great! I think we will need her laptop to investigate. So keep it safe with you."
"Okay."
She hung up and released a breath.
"Zexi?" a voice echoed from behind her.
She froze. Her heart almost stopped beating in her chest as she turned very slowly.
H-How is it possible? Nobody was supposed to be here right now...
She held her breath and before her stood her manager, Xun Chunlei, who looked puzzled. "You are still here?"
Sir Xun!
He walked towards her, slightly furrowing his brows. "Why are you still working so late in the evening?"
Oh shit...I am screwed...!

Donning their masks and with the invitation cards ready, Jia and Mingshen stepped in. At the entrance was a receptionist who politely greeted them with a smile.
"Good evening, Sir. Good evening, Mam. I see you are here for the masquerade party. Can I please see your invitations?"
Jia handed him the sa, returning a smile of her own.
"Thank you," he took a mont to verify the cards after which he said, "Please head to the fourteenth floor. The lift is over there."
"Thank you."
Jia whispered as they headed towards the elevator. "He did not check the tattoos."
"Guess, the second check will be done at the fourteenth floor. Ah, my heart is tingling with excitent~"
The elevator opened with a ding and they headed towards the masquerade’s party hall. The server at the entrance greeted them with a smile and checked their invitations once again.
"Thank you so much. Please enjoy the evening," he ushered them inside.
Jia scanned her eyes across the entire party hall and said, "Impossible..."
Mingshen raised his brow. "Very luxurious. Our adorable cult gang seems to be flowing with quite so cash."
She looked at him, dumbfounded. "You don’t realize the problem here? Just look around you. There are hundreds of people here. You think everybody here wearing a mask and having an invitation is a part of the cult? In what sense does this look like a shady gathering?"
"Since we are at a five star hotel, it was never ant to look like a suspicious cult session anyway."
"Yeah but all these people look very elite and rich."
"We look rich too."
"You are not getting my point, Mingshen. I thought this gathering will have a really limited number of people but this...?"
"Have you seen cults? Cults can have a massive following because people are that stupid and blind," he sneered. "What’s a re hundred people anyway? Also cults can have mbers from all backgrounds, rich or poor."
"So you an to say that the leader will co on the stage and just...start the cult session like it’s a normal thing to do out in the open? They are rich but they cannot be that stupid. They cannot do their teachings or brainwashing or whatever just like this so openly. If they are that confident, then why are they hiding in the first place?"
"So we are at the wrong place you say?"
"We are definitely at the right place, but..." her eyes squinted, looking around, "we are missing sothing. Ehuang’s parents said that they check the tattoos too along with the invitations, but neither the man at the reception desk nor this hall’s entrance’s server asked us for it. He just let us in. I hardly believe that the cult’s leader would suddenly get so lax about not verifying the mbers properly."
"Hm. So we are at the right place but we are not at the right place at the sa ti," he tilted his head.
Jia stared at all the guests who were laughing and enjoying sipping on their wines.
"Masquerade party...A mask..." she said, "I think I get it. This masquerade ball is in itself a veil. The cult mbers are just mingling here on the surface. That’s why nobody asked us about the tattoo. The true gathering...is held sowhere else."
