"Soooo what were you doing at the charity function in the first place?"
Mingshen was lazily tapping his finger on the desk in the custody room. He sohow made his way through Huojin into letting him et Bai Yingtai.
Bai Yingtai had his head almost hanging off his neck, asleep as usual.
Zzzz...
"You know you don’t get soft fluffy beds to sleep in in jail, right?"
Bai Yingtai imdiately jerked his head up, his eyes now wide open. A flash of terror greeted his eyes.
"Then..." his voice was quiet of a whisper as always, "how do people sleep here?"
General population would only find his words incoherent but Mingshen and Bojing were used to understanding through his almost mute voice.
"They get used to it," he shrugged. "Criminals don’t get much choices, you see."
Bai Yingtai looked blank as if lightning struck him. "I don’t want to...sleep on cold hard beds. Will Pluplu be there?"
"No teddy bears either."
That was a harsh strike to his heart. "Hard bed...Pluplu...I cannot live like that..."
"Then what were you doing at the hotel? You? Since when do you leave your bed? Imagine my surprise seeing you there."
Bai Yingtai looked away for a mont. He released a yawn and lazily said, his eyes close to dozing off despite the imminent threat to his sleeping habits in the near future.
"I heard that...she would be there so I went."
He blinked. "She? Who?"
"ng Rin."
He blinked, this ti twice. "...How do you know her?"
"I have watched Whisper of the Heart."
"You watch dramas?"
"I have an LCD in my office..."
"You do sothing other than sleeping too?" Mingshen gasped in shock.
"I am a sleep specialist."
"Which you conveniently use as a reason to sleep instead of researching your subject or treating patients."
Bai Yingtai made a face and quietly said, "I do treat a patient."
"Since when do you have a patient?"
"Since Bojing referred to ng Rin."
Mingshen stared at him. "ng Rin is your patient?"
"She has sleeping problems."
"Hang on," For the first ti in his life, Mingshen was feeling dizzy. "You watch dramas and treat a patient too?"
"Yes."
"I never saw ng Rin in my lab."
"We connected over the phone."
"Why?"
"She didn’t want to personally co for so reason..."
Mingshen’s brow twitched hard. "And sohow that still doesn’t explain why you thought you should go to the hotel."
Bai Yingtai blinked. "Oh. I like her voice. Both in the drama and the tis we..."
Zzzzz.
"Stone beds."
He jolted once again. The thought of stone beds was no less than a nightmare for him.
"Continue," Mingshen impatiently urged.
"Hm?" He rembered the conversation. "Oh. I like her voice. Both in the drama and the tis we talked over the phone."
"So?"
"So I wanted to et her...personally."
"And what did you want to achieve by eting her personally?"
"Tell her that I like her voice. It’s very soothing. I feel that...my sleep and her voice can beco...best friends."
"...Just that?"
Bai Yingtai blinked. "And probably ask her for a date too?"
"Huh?"
"I think her lap will be a great pillow..."
Mingshen stared at him listlessly. "You like her?"
"I think so."
"She has a fiance."
"She does?"
"The man whose head you banged against the wall last night."
"Oh. He is too loud. Won don’t like loud n. And he kicked the bed. Unforgivable," his gaze went cold.
"He is from the Politburo family."
"What is a Politburo family?"
"Very high in the chain of influential political families."
"Oh," he just raised his brow as if he got so casual information and then just shrugged.
"You do realize you cannot just get her right?"
"She doesn’t like him," he stated. "She is afraid of him."
Mingshen took a deep breath. He thought that exploring his feelings towards ng Rin could wait.
"Why did you hit him?"
"He kicked the bed."
"And?"
"He was about to slap her."
Silence.
"So why the hell were you on top of her?"
He frowned. "I wanted to make it easy for everyone to see that ng Rin wasn’t cheating or sleeping with ...but I didn’t know you would be there too...You ruined my plan."
Mingshen gave a dry look. "I was going to learn sooner or later. That was a stupid plan."
"The outside people were banging too loudly," he said with displeasure, "People are so loud everywhere..."
Then he said tearfully, "I cannot sleep on hard beds..."
"You don’t care he could have died?"
"Do you?"
Mingshen shrugged. The boss and employee shared the sa sentints. He didn’t care about Hou Tengqi’s state but what he still couldn’t believe was -
"You really watch dramas? The TV in your office actually functions?"
Bai Yingtai blinked once. "I only watch Whisper of the Heart because of my brother and ng Rin."
Mingshen tilted his head. "Brother?"
—
"My brother didn’t really jump on you, right?"
ng Rin blinked in confusion as she looked up at Bai Caishen. "Brother?"
"The stranger who was sleeping on your bed, hit your fiance and allegedly jumped on you."
Her jaw dropped in utter shock. "Say what!?"
Thankfully Chow y and Dong Haoyu were at a distance buying ice cream for everybody or else it would have been chaos with her scream.
ng Rin’s fuzzy brain couldn’t distinguish fiction from reality anymore. "...Huh?"
Bai Caishen gave an awkward smile. "Nobody really knows that I have a brother. We are kinda...estranged. Things happened."
It was still hard for her to register. "H-He is your...brother?"
"Bro Yingtai. Yes."
"Hold please..."
Bai Caishen held her wrist, who was close to collapsing on the ground. It took a while for ng Rin to grasp this wild connection. She looked at him and then imagined Bai Yingtai in her mind.
"How...? I an....you two are so different..."
One brother was in the lilight and one of the most handso eligible bachelors every woman is drooling for and the other just loved sleeping...?
"He is really your...?"
"Yup. We are brothers. But don’t tell anybody that please?"
