Jia dragged her feet in the Bureau with a dropped expression. Ever since she saw the scale tip up with the weight she didn’t want to see, it was as if she lost all her energy for the day.
"Good morning Inspector Song," Officer Xiyang greeted her.
"Morning Xiyang," she said in a dispirited tone.
She looked across the office and felt so officers staring at her. But they quickly averted back their gazes as if they weren’t paying attention to her at all.
...They were looking at , right?
Slightly panicked, she looked down at herself and gulped.
Is my weight gain that visible? Is my uniform looking too tight?
She bit her lip inwardly, mild anxiety setting in.
"Inspector Mo just reached before you. He was asking for you."
"Is that so? Okay, I will go and et him."
Jia threw a glance around again and couldn’t help but feel agitated.
I need to do sothing about my weight. I cannot let it increase more than this...
As she left, the other officers and attendants working nearby quickly crowded near Xiyang’s desk.
"Hey, hey, did she say sothing?"
"Yes, quickly spill the beans!"
Xiyang was dumbfounded. "You just saw it with your own eyes. Inspector Song and I hardly talked. How would I have gotten any ti to ask her? Plus, she looked a little depressed for so reason."
"Did the date with Dr. Yang didn’t go so well?"
One female officer, Li Na, squealed. "I saw them in the park yesterday morning! They were racing for a couple of rounds and then they left. Ah...I cannot handle their flirting anymore."
"Inspector Mo said that Dr. Yang arranged for a very special and romantic date for Inspector Song~" Huang grinned.
"Aaahhh, does that an they are together now? How was the date? What did they do? Did they kiss? Did they perhaps...*ahem* I wanna knowww!! I won’t be able to sleep at night until I know all the answers!" Another administrative attendant, Yimu, sobbed.
"Word is that she also spent the night at the Yang mansion! By Mrs. Yang’s invitation! Inspector Mo was the eyewitness!"
They gasped. "Doesn’t this an that it’s almost official!? Are we going to receive the wedding cards soon?"
"I was so close in asking Inspector Song myself but she would have killed , right?" Huang sheepishly grinned.
Xiyang coughed. "It was a wise decision that you held back your gossip mode. She becos an active volcano simply at the ntion of Dr. Yang."
Li Na raised her palm, acting as the enlightened Buddha. "Worry not, my loyal subjects. I have faith in Dr. Yang’s charm and deviousness. The day Inspector Song would get seduced is not so far away."

Huojin cleared his throat as he saw Jia enter.
"How is the future Mrs. Yang doing?"
Jia stared at him with a squinted gaze, making him nervous. "W-What? I am just asking a very logical question that follows after any suspicious incident."
"You...Do you think I look any different today?"
He paused with a narrowed gaze. "Did sothing happen between you and Yang Mingshen to make you look different?"
"Mingshen isn’t in this equation at all."
"He would be heartbroken to hear that."
Jia grabbed a file and smacked his head with it.
"Hey!"
Huojin rubbed his head and frowned in displeasure. He was quick to notice her slightly downcast gaze.
"What happened?"
"Huh? Nothing," Jia replied.
"Ayyyeee, no lying to your best friend. Don’t forget we have a bro code."
"We do?"
"Now I am heartbroken."
He moved his chair near and looked at her carefully. "Sothing is bothering you, isn’t it? You have been looking tired for so ti."
Her brow slightly twitched.
"I thought it was the work stress before but it feels different now," he furrowed his brow. "You know you can share anything with , right?"
She smiled. "Apparently, sleeping a night in a rich mansion feels very different. I am not used to it at all."
Huojin stared at her. "Is it the...mansion you are not used to or the people living in it?"
She grimaced. "Why does everybody want to be so perceptive these days?"
"Maybe because you are not doing such a good job in hiding it."
"I am not hiding anything."
"Jiaaaaaa..." he took her na with a hint of warning in his voice. "Lie to one more ti and we are crashing for an ani night at my house."
She threw a glare at him. "Once was enough!"
"So cough out with the truth."
Jia pressed her lips and eventually released a sigh. "Just thinking about Mom and Dad. It’s just temporary though."
"Mhm, I thought so."
She frowned.
He pinched her cheek. "Don’t give that look. You always distance yourself like that around your birthday and their anniversary days. Others may not notice but as your best friend, I do. Want to go out for so drinks tonight?"
Jia held an awkward look. "No...I am cutting down on drinks and other stuff. I have gained a little weight..."
He blinked. "Is that why you asked if you looked different today? Haishhhh..."
He grabbed her head and ruffled her hair vigorously.
"Heyyyy!!" Jia complained.
"Don’t hey . You are looking as if it is the end of the world," he flicked her forehead. "I am not saying to ignore your concern, but you can easily shed off the extra kilos. So brighten up," he grinned and almost strangled her neck with his arm grip.
Jia choked and sohow escaped his deathly grasp. "You!"
"Just think about our past harsh training regin days and I trust you will lose half of your extra weight just by reminiscing about it," he shuddered.
Jia burst into laughter. "You are still so traumatized by it. Ah those days were fun."
"Those were so dark days...And fun for who!?" He glared at her.
"For ," she grinned, "to see you struggle so much to beat ."
He scoffed. "I know you definitely cheated on the tests. I will prove your guilt one day for sure!"
"Sure. Good luck in finding the imaginary evidence. For now, let’s talk about so real evidence against She. What have you got?"
