Dragon King's Harem Chapter 308. Impolite IV
"A nto?" I raised an eyebrow, honestly puzzled. "Like jewelry?" I asked, needing a bit of clarity since this was totally out of left field. I an, I’ve been the Dragon King for a while, and nobody who wasn’t tangled up in so political ga had ever straight-up asked for a keepsake. Super weird, especially coming from soone I hardly knew.
Evelyn seed to catch on to my confusion and backpedaled a bit. "No, it doesn't have to be that. Anything's fine," she said, her tone kind of self-deprecating, like she didn't want to make a big deal out of it.
I humd thoughtfully, weighing what I could give her. We were just winging this eting, and I wasn't exactly carrying around fancy gifts. "Hmm," I mused aloud, then hit on an idea. "Okay, how about I get Eir to send sothing nice your way?" I was trying to wrap this up smoothly.
But Evelyn wasn't ready to drop it. She stepped closer, then seed to think better of it and stepped back. "No," she corrected softly, "anything you're using now will do. Even your hair," she added, which definitely threw for a loop.
'Hair?' I thought, completely baffled. Was she collecting it for so witchy ritual? Unsure of her angle, I decided to go with sothing a bit less... personal. I plucked a button from my shirt and handed it to her.
Choosing a shirt button over sothing from my blazer, which was decked out with the Draconis crest, seed like a good call. No need to complicate things with heavy symbolism. The recording crystal had everything on tape, so it was clear I wasn't up to any funny business during our weird little eting.
Evelyn took the button with obvious happiness. "Yes," she bead, "Thank you, Your Majesty," and bowed out politely.
As she left, I muttered to myself, "What a strange lady." That was putting it mildly. She was a complete enigma from the get-go, and I had this nagging feeling that this odd exchange might ripple out to cause so drama later. All I could hope for was that it wouldn't turn into a royal headache.
With Evelyn gone, I shut down the recording crystal, making it vanish back into my Dinsional Ring.
-----
anwhile, Evelyn was holding the button like it was so kind of treasure. The simple item suddenly ant the world to her, especially with her heart heavy from her engagent to Prince Naganthor. Looking at that button, she felt a deep longing—for the Dragon King, not the prince she was bound to marry.
It wasn't Naganthor who stirred her soul, but the charismatic and powerful Dragon King. His allure was undeniable, and despite the impossibility, she was drawn to him.
But here she was, stuck in a tough spot, her joy shadowed by her situation. She thought about any old stories where two sisters might have shared a husband, but nothing ca to mind. The thought of asking such a thing seed almost too wild to consider.
What she really wanted was to tell the Dragon King how she felt—that she had fallen for him. But with the recording crystal capturing every word, she couldn’t risk it. Too much was at stake, not just her heart but potential political fallout too.
So she settled for the button—a discreet token of their encounter, sothing to hold onto. A little piece of him to carry with her as a reminder of what could never be.
To everyone else, Evelyn might be just a pawn in their political gas, another royal asset to be traded in marriage. But those small monts with the Dragon King had sparked sothing in her, a fla of hope, however faint.
