"Teacher Liu, everyone’s on board. Shall we go now?" Xu Yino asked after receiving a ssage during their cheerful conversation.

"Alright. Are you taking the bus with the others, or riding in my car?" Liu Banxia asked.

"Hahaha, definitely this car! The bus is stuffy, and I can listen to music in here," Xu Yino said.

"By the way, Teacher Liu, do you know anyone at a 4S dealership? I’m thinking of buying a car too. I’ll be a fully-fledged doctor soon, right? I should have the proper accessories."

"Do you think asking makes sense? You should ask Qiaoqiao. She’ll definitely know soone," Liu Banxia said.

"But I don’t think buying a car is that important right now. You wouldn’t drive it much during the week anyway. Take my car, for instance. It’ll only be truly useful once I’m no longer chief resident."

"Ah, even if it’s just to have, it would be nice. At least we’ll have so ti off, and it’ll be a bit more relaxed than during our internship, right?" Xu Yino said.

"I did think of asking Qiaoqiao, but what if everyone she knows sells luxury cars? What would I do then? I can probably only afford a car costing around two hundred thousand. If it’s too expensive, my salary might not even cover the maintenance."

"Qiaoqiao is a down-to-earth person; just ask her. She definitely knows so people. The key is what brand you want to buy. There are plenty of cars in the two-hundred-thousand price range, so you’ll have a good selection," Liu Banxia said casually.

He didn’t give it much thought. Xu Yino’s family was well-off, so buying a car for transportation was perfectly normal.

"Tell your family about it. Driving conditions are still poor right now," Liu Banxia said after driving for a while.

He’d assud that by afternoon, even if it was still foggy, it would have cleared up sowhat. The reality wasn’t so great; perhaps everyone else had the sa idea, hoping fewer people would be driving in such weather.

"Teacher Liu, Teacher Shi said there’s no rush," Xu Yino said after making the call.

"There are just too many cars these days; I don’t want to buy one anymore. If driving is like this every day, how am I supposed to live? The stress would kill !"

"I won’t comnt on that. You ladies and your thoughts... really hard to predict," Liu Banxia said helplessly.

"Hahaha, I was just talking. I’ll still buy one when the ti cos," Xu Yino said with a grin.

"Still, I’m really envious of people on bicycles and electric scooters right now. They can move around so freely. If there’s a gap, they can just zip through. Or maybe I should buy a bicycle too?"

Liu Banxia wisely chose to remain silent. Maybe all young won are like this; their minds change constantly, and you just can’t get involved.

Just then, the brake lights of the car in front suddenly flared. Liu Banxia hurriedly slamd on his brakes. Fortunately, the car behind him wasn’t tailgating; otherwise, it would have been a surefire rear-end collision.

"Don’t tell there’s an accident up ahead. How long are we going to be stuck here?" After waiting for about half a minute with the car still not moving, Liu Banxia was getting restless.

"I can’t see a thing up ahead. Should I get out and check?" Xu Yino asked, peering forward.

"According to the navigation, it should be the intersection up ahead. Go take a look first, and let know imdiately if you see anything," Liu Banxia said.

Xu Yino imdiately hopped out of the car and ran ahead to check.

Drivers in so of the cars around them were growing impatient and started honking their horns.

Sotis Liu Banxia truly didn’t understand. We’re obviously stuck here, so what’s the point of honking nonstop? The cars ahead aren’t going to sprout wings and fly away. If no one honked, people might be anxious, but they wouldn’t get so worked up. The incessant, irritating honking just made everyone’s mood worse.

At this mont, Liu Banxia’s phone rang. It was Xu Yino calling. Liu Banxia answered promptly.

"What happened? Is the road blocked?" Liu Banxia asked.

"Teacher Liu, there’s been an accident here! A cyclist is trapped under a car. A tal spoke from the bicycle wheel is lodged in his leg. It looks like it hit a blood vessel," Xu Yino said.

"Don’t move the injured person! I’m coming right now," Liu Banxia said and rushed out of the car.

This is a very dangerous situation. If a blood vessel is damaged, getting him to a hospital quickly with this traffic will be tough. If he doesn’t get blood in ti, his life will be in danger.

"What’s the situation?" Liu Banxia asked after reaching the scene.

"It’s tricky, Teacher Liu. We don’t dare move the car. The person’s underneath, and we’re afraid of causing more injuries," Xu Yino said.

Liu Banxia leaned down by the front of the car, using the light from Xu Yino’s phone to see.

The situation was indeed complicated. The SUV’s front wheel was pinning the victim’s right arm, and his bicycle was wedged between him and the car.

Two spokes were embedded in his right leg, and blood was gushing out around them.

He looked carefully again. Even with his longer arms, he couldn’t reach far enough under the car to examine the wound.

"Xu Yino, go from car to car and get so people to help lift this vehicle," Liu Banxia said.

"Alright."

Xu Yino acknowledged and started looking for help from nearby cars.

"You’re a doctor. If moving the car makes his injuries worse, you have to be my witness," a middle-aged man standing nearby said.

Liu Banxia frowned, feeling quite disgusted. Nevertheless, he understood that sotis, so things are hard to explain.

"Are you the owner of the car? Can you film this from the side? Have you called the police? Contacted an ambulance?" Liu Banxia asked.

The middle-aged man nodded. "I’ve called the police, but with today’s traffic, who knows when they’ll arrive. I swear I didn’t hit him on purpose! He just darted out from the side."

"Telling this won’t help. Save it for the traffic police when they arrive. Have you taken photos of the current scene? Everyone else, stop gawking and lend a hand if you’re able! This car isn’t that heavy," Liu Banxia shouted.

"This gentleman here will film everything. We’re trying to save soone’s life; you won’t be held responsible. And I’m a doctor; I’ll explain the situation to the traffic police."

"Cars ahead and behind, please pull over as much as you can to clear a path for the ambulance! He needs a blood transfusion. If the blood doesn’t get here in ti, he’ll die."

Although he was very anxious, Liu Banxia had to explain patiently.

Sotis, it wasn’t that people nowadays were cold-hearted, but that too many kind individuals had suffered ungrounded disasters for their good deeds.

Fortunately, most people there were able to think rationally. After Liu Banxia’s call, several people ca over and gathered around the car.

"Xu Yino, you co help . Everyone, listen to my count! When I say three, we all lift together. We’re saving a life here, you’re all heroes!" Liu Banxia shouted again.

"Doctor, we’ll follow your lead," soone in the crowd said.

"One, two, three, LIFT!" Liu Banxia called out the command.

Everyone heaved together. The side of the car pinning the patient’s arm was lifted, and Liu Banxia and Xu Yino quickly pulled the patient out from under the car.

"Okay, lower it down. Xu Yino, apply a tourniquet to his arm to stop the bleeding. I’ll check his right leg. Everyone else, please help direct traffic and clear the road for the police and ambulance," Liu Banxia commanded.

"Teacher Liu, his right arm has a comminuted fracture. He’s losing a lot of blood; a major vessel is probably hit. Does anyone have a rope? A belt would work too!" Xu Yino called out.

"Use mine," a man nearby said, pulling off his belt.

"Thank you," Xu Yino said, taking it, and then began to apply it as a tourniquet.

"What’s the situation?" Just then, a traffic policeman arrived on a motorcycle.

"The injured man is in critical condition and needs to get to a hospital imdiately. Contact the nearest hospital and have them send blood bags. We need to start a transfusion here. His femoral artery is ruptured. For now, all I can do is apply direct pressure to control the bleeding," Liu Banxia said.

The policeman glanced at him, then at the patient’s injured leg, and began speaking into his radio.

"Wow, Teacher Liu, his femoral artery is ruptured?" Xu Yino asked in surprise, peeking at the wound after finishing her task.

"The wound is too high up for a tourniquet; I’m pressing on it with my hand. It’ll be very difficult to save him without getting him to an operating room. I’ll hold on as long as I can," Liu Banxia said, gritting his teeth.

The femoral artery is a vital blood vessel. The mont they pulled the patient out, the pressure on the spokes was released. They must have shifted, because blood imdiately started spurting from the wound.

The only thing Liu Banxia could do was to press his thumb firmly onto the artery, just proximal to the rupture, to try and stanch the flow.

The patient had already lost a lot of blood. Besides the two most obvious injuries on his arm and leg, he could very likely have internal abdominal injuries as well. The car was still on his bicycle, and the mangled bike itself must have been exerting considerable pressure on him.

"If we hadn’t pulled the kid out just now, would he have bled less?" soone watching from the side asked.

"If we hadn’t pulled him out, he’d have gone into hemorrhagic shock within five minutes! By then, there would have been no chance to save him at all," Xu Yino retorted irritably.

"Why are you getting so worked up? Everyone, please clear the road as much as possible to make way for the ambulance! I think I can hear the siren now, though it still sounds pretty far off," Liu Banxia shouted again.

"Dr. Liu, rest assured, my colleagues are already managing traffic control up ahead. Please hold on a little longer," the traffic policeman who had just arrived said.

"You know ? It would be best to get the blood bags and saline here first. He needs blood and fluids imdiately," Liu Banxia nodded.

"My colleague is already bringing a doctor over on a motorcycle. Do you need anything else?" the policeman asked.

"We’ll need a debrident kit and hemostatic forceps. We’ll need to clamp his blood vessels on-site. I’m afraid I can’t maintain pressure long enough to get him to the hospital," Liu Banxia said.

"Alright."

The policeman acknowledged and quickly got back on his radio.

A layer of fine sweat beaded on Liu Banxia’s forehead. This was manual hemostasis, alright, but it was even more strenuous than that ti he’d had to pinch a vessel closed with his bare fingers in the ER.
