"Is that an artery? Is he really pinching it closed?"
"Looks like it. See that huge pool of blood on the ground? There’s a lot under the car too."
"Can soone even survive losing that much blood? His face is deathly pale."
"It seems like he really has it pinched. They need to start a blood transfusion, quick! He won’t make it without blood."
"That girl from earlier was right. It’s been so long. If he’d been left under the car, he definitely would’ve bled out by now."
"The doctor’s here! This young man should have a chance now."
"Quick, make way! Let the doctor handle this. It’s a matter of life and death!"
The surrounding crowd cleared a path as an ergency doctor ran over, carrying his dical kit.
"I’m Liu Banxia from the Second Hospital Ergency Center. I’m currently applying pressure to the femoral artery in his right leg. The patient has excessive blood loss and needs imdiate blood and fluid resuscitation. Start a rapid transfusion and administer oxygen," Liu Banxia stated.
The ergency doctor glanced at him. "Alright."
"Xu Yino, assist this doctor. Then, prepare for on-site vascular clamping. My fingers can’t hold on much longer," Liu Banxia continued.
"Huh? Dr. Liu, are you going to do it here, on-site?" the ergency doctor asked, astonished.
"We have to. The mont we try to move the patient, my hand will shift, and he’ll lose a massive amount of blood. Given the current traffic, even if I could manage to get him to the ambulance, the vehicle’s movent could cause my grip to falter."
The ergency doctor hesitated, continuing his work without verbally agreeing.
Never mind him, a dical professional; even the onlookers understood how dangerous it would be to perform surgery in such an environnt.
"Teacher Liu, the blood and fluid resuscitation has begun," Xu Yino reported.
"Good. I’ll take charge here," Liu Banxia said calmly.
"Everyone, please form a human wall, facing outward. n, if you can, take off your T-shirts and use them to shield his leg from the wind. Those with jackets, please cover us from above. It will help reduce contamination."
"Xu Yino, you’ll perform the procedure. Just do it like we always do; it’s just a change of location. Once you’ve isolated the femoral artery, clamp the vessel, cover it with dressing, and then we can safely move him to the ambulance."
"Dr. Liu, the patient has started receiving blood and fluids. Wouldn’t a brief move be alright now?" the ergency doctor asked.
"If the leg wound were the only danger, it might be manageable. However, look at his abdon. He likely has internal bleeding, so we can’t risk moving him," Liu Banxia replied.
Hearing this, everyone looked at the injured man’s abdon, which was now slightly distended.
Even soone with a bit of a belly wouldn’t look like that lying down. How much would his stomach protrude if he were standing?
"Alright everyone, let’s move quickly! Even if you have urgent matters, we’re saving a life here. It won’t take too long. Xu Yino, you have only fifteen minutes for this procedure," Liu Banxia continued.
"Understood."
Xu Yino acknowledged, then pulled gloves from the ergency doctor’s kit, put them on, and began cutting the patient’s trousers.
"Oh, right! The interns! Call the interns over. Have them take off their shirts and form part of the barrier," Liu Banxia called out again.
In his haste, he had forgotten about the interns in the car. It was a bit difficult to ask the bystanders for help, but ordering the interns around was no problem.
"Oh my, I completely forgot!" Xu Yino exclaid, taking out her phone to make the call.
"Everyone, please look away. This smog is definitely dirty."
A traffic officer spoke, then started taking off his jacket.
The onlookers no longer hesitated, and many began removing their outer clothing.
So people in their cars only knew there had been a traffic accident but were unaware of the specifics. However, seeing so many people taking off clothes piqued their interest, and they started filming with their phones.
It was a rare sight. The traffic police on the scene began reporting to their superiors and managing traffic flow. The operation here would take at least another half hour. Continued traffic through the area would cause significant disruption.
Just then, the interns from the car ran over, completely clueless about what was happening.
"Listen up, everyone! This is an on-site ergency surgery," Liu Banxia announced.
"Male students, take off your shirts imdiately and reinforce the barrier. Female students, form an inner circle, take out your phones, turn on the flashlights, and aim them at the surgical site. Weren’t you all wondering about your orientation? Well, this is it."
Although the students were still bewildered, Liu Banxia’s words were like an imperial edict to them. With their help, the initially thin human enclosure instantly beca much more substantial.
"Alright, the surgical conditions are basically adequate. Doctor Xu, it’s ti to show these students what you can do," Liu Banxia said, trying to sound relaxed and forcing a smile.
He was barely holding on now; his fingers were already numb. He had already drunk a bottle of stamina potion, but it wasn’t much help in this situation.
This wasn’t like his usual thod of bracing with his whole hand; he was now relying solely on the pressure of his thumb to staunch the patient’s blood flow.
"Teacher Liu, were you planning to do an on-site surgery from the very beginning?" Xu Yino asked as she disinfected the area.
"Pretty much. Otherwise, I would have used my palm to apply pressure. But that would have made things even harder to handle. It’s always good to be prepared for multiple contingencies," Liu Banxia said casually.
The people listening nearby were startled.
This had nothing to do with dical knowledge; one could see it from the outco. This doctor assessed the situation and imdiately conceived of this procedure, then actually went through with it. This must have a specific term for it, like ’foresight,’ right?
"Those of you who are close, watch carefully. The ones in the outer circle won’t be able to see much," Liu Banxia continued.
"Soon, you will all officially start at the hospital. You’ll find it’s very different from what you’ve seen and experienced during your previous internships. And for a surgeon, the most crucial thing is a solid foundation in anatomy."
"All our surgical protocols require procedures to be done in an operating room whenever possible. But in the future, you might encounter field ergencies like today, where there’s no ti to get the patient to an OR. What do you do then? Who can answer?"
"Dr. Liu, do you an direct dissection?" a man in the crowd asked curiously.
"Haha, you fell for it," Liu Banxia said with a chuckle.
"At tis like that, you must remain calm. Don’t panic. Only then can you apply the knowledge you’ve learned. Otherwise, if you panic, everything you know will be useless."
Several people couldn’t help but chuckle. They knew the situation was serious, but this was quite amusing.
"Just like Doctor Xu, whom we’re observing now. Her composure is remarkable. Only with such a calm mindset can one perform consistently," Liu Banxia continued.
"And this gentleman’s cooperation is also excellent. It looks like he’s assisted in surgery before. Ergency doctors have a tough job. He deserves a round of applause, but everyone’s hands are full."
As soon as he finished speaking, applause broke out from the periphery of the crowd.
They weren’t holding clothes, but they were doing their best to block the wind by filling the gaps in the crowd.
"Thank you, everyone. Our surgery is proceeding smoothly. Our chief surgeon is very experienced, despite her youth. Her skills are top-notch," Liu Banxia added.
"I won’t give you specific progress updates, mainly because most of you wouldn’t understand, and listening might scare you. So, just know that everything is going well; that’s all you need."
"Oh, and Officer! Please contact the nearest hospital and have them prepare an operating room. There’s no ti for preoperative examinations; he needs to go straight into surgery upon arrival due to internal bleeding."
"Understood, Dr. Liu," the traffic officer replied.
"Teacher Liu, please hold on a little longer. I’m almost done," Xu Yino said.
"I’m alright. I can hold on a bit longer. Just operate as you normally would; don’t mind ," Liu Banxia replied.
He was talking so much partly to distract himself, and partly to ease Xu Yino’s nervousness.
In the context of the ergency center, this would be a minor procedure. But doing it outdoors, as opposed to in an operating room, changes everything.
If Xu Yino were to make a mistake during this operation, it could very well affect her entire future career. It’s not about potential disciplinary action, but rather that she might struggle to overco it psychologically.
Xu Yino was really being forced into a difficult situation this ti. Liu Banxia didn’t know the other ergency doctor or his skill level, so he had no choice but to task Xu Yino with the procedure.
If I were doing it myself, I would have already isolated the artery and clamped it by now.
But I have no choice. The young man’s femoral artery injury is like a grenade with the pin pulled. I can’t let go, or it’ll detonate.
In the operating room, you can apply pressure to Xu Yino, and she’ll perform more diligently under it. But you can’t do that in an outdoor environnt like this. She’s already under imnse pressure; any more, and her hands might start to tremble.
Even the ntally strongest people have a breaking point. Exceed that limit, and problems can easily arise.
"Dr. Liu, the route has been cleared! The ambulance is here, and the Second City Hospital is ready!" an officer from outside shouted just then.
"Okay, tell them to get the stretcher out and wait nearby. We’re about to expose the blood vessel. Once it’s clamped and covered, bring the stretcher over imdiately," Liu Banxia said.
"The young man’s condition is currently stable; his blood pressure should have risen sowhat. The pressure has temporarily reduced the impact of the abdominal bleeding."
"Teacher Liu, I’ve clamped it!" Xu Yino, who had been silent until now, suddenly called out.
Everyone, whether they were in the inner circle and could see, or in the outer circle and could only hear, grew tense. They had all worked so hard for this long. Success or failure hinged on this very next mont.
