Seeing her daughter finally willing to co out, Chen Mingying, who had stopped her tears, felt a bit overwheld with old tears once again. Her eyes welled up with tears of excitent, feeling a tinge of regret but also believing she hadn’t made a wrong decision in seeking out Li Yan.
"Little Di..."
"Mom!"
After Li Yan’s guidance and expressing her grievances towards her parents, Yu Xiaodi, standing in her parents’ shoes, realized she had been a bit too pampered. Thinking about how her temper worried her parents, she was filled with guilt.
However, she and her mother hadn’t communicated well in a long ti, so expecting her to apologize or say so comforting words seed an almost unattainable task. Yet, among won, communication sotis doesn’t require words. For example, now, she threw herself into her mother’s arms. The mother and daughter hugged, and without speaking a word, they both understood everything.
Chen Mingying, whose eyes were brimming with tears, couldn’t help but cry again. How many years had it been? She couldn’t rember how long it had been since she’d been this close to her daughter! When was the last ti she held her like this anyway?
She secretly felt grateful that although she’d wasted many happy tis, it wasn’t too late yet; there was still a chance to make up for it.
Getting infected by her mother’s emotions, Yu Xiaodi also started crying imdiately. Over the years, whenever she felt extrely bored, frustrated, or agitated, she’d longed to cry in her mother’s arms like a normal girl. Unfortunately, she never had the opportunity. After releasing her grievances against her parents with Li Yan earlier, now she had a chance to express her longing for maternal love. This made her cry even more intensely in her mother’s arms.
Standing aside and observing, Li Yan looked at Li Jie beside him, curiously whispering, "What a touching mont! Why are you completely unresponsive? Like pretending to be a wooden person? Acting cool?"
Li Jie shot him a look but said nothing.
"On the other hand, your true nature isn’t bad, just as impressive as your skills. There’s no need to make yourself look like a ghost."
"Hmph! What’s it to you?"
"I think we should give them more space to communicate. Standing here watching can be awkward." Li Yan suggested, turning to walk down the corridor.
Li Jie glanced around and had to follow him.
Walking through a section of the corridor, Li Yan had already stopped and was lighting a cigarette.
"Want a smoke?"
"I don’t smoke."
"Hey, save it then."
"..."
Actually, Li Yan just wanted to make conversation to get her to move away, leaving so space for the mother and daughter. He wasn’t really curious or interested in the female bodyguard, now just minding his own business smoking.
Li Jie, on the other hand, was quite curious about Li Yan. Hmm, having a bad impression is one thing, being curious is another. Looking around to ensure no one approached, she directly asked in a low voice, "Li Yan! Just who on earth are you?"
"?" Li Yan glanced at her and seriously asked, "Do you want a simple answer or a more detailed one?"
Li Jie was a bit surprised at how agreeable he was.
With a suspicious look, she fixed her gaze on him and said coolly, "Detailed!"
Taking a puff, Li Yan nodded, "In detail... I’m a person from the Yun Country on planet Earth in the Solar System, or to be more precise, a man, a real guy."
Li Jie couldn’t help but get angry, "Are you ssing with ?"
"No!" Li Yan was puzzled. "Didn’t you ask for a more detailed answer? Simply put, I’m just a man. Could I be a woman or sothing?"
Annoyed by his idiotic behavior, Li Jie fud and asked again, "I don’t care if you’re a man, woman, or transvestite, or eunuch, I’m asking about your identity and background!"
"Should have said so sooner! Then you should ask where I work directly. Instead, you asked so foolishly, and I haven’t even answered you as an Asian yet." Li Yan teased and then said seriously, "My identity is just a small office worker! I understand your thoughts, you think I have motives in approaching Yu Xiaodi? This suspicion was with Yu Hong long ago. Zhou Yunfei and his subordinates have suspected similarly, I don’t mind.
Li Jie fell silent for a mont before asking, "It’s not others doubting you; it’s you raising suspicion first. If you are just an ordinary office worker, why are you so skilled?"
"Skilled?" Li Yan looked at her teasingly, "Which aspect are you referring to? The fight in the cinema? You saw it yourself, even their strongest could be tripped by Xiaodi. If that indicates my skills, then soone who could quickly climb onto a moving car and jump down to knock out two people is a master among masters, right? Ha-ha, indirectly complinting yourself!"
Li Jie was speechless. After thinking carefully, it did seem to make sense. She’d only seen him fight in the cinema, and they were indeed just so ordinary ruffians. In the car repair shop’s inner yard, though he turned the tide, it seed like the one doing most of the fighting was actually herself. Why did she think he was so strong?
Seeing her frowning, Li Yan smiled, "Do you think I’m impressive because I managed to catch up with you guys last ti?"
Li Jie didn’t answer, but it was a clear acknowledgnt.
"Hehe, so are skilled enough to climb cars. I had to use my brain and drove to chase. Soone could sneak in covered by a garbage bag, I sneak in with a valid car wash reason. As for appearing at the crucial mont, one reason is I like to make an entrance when the hero shows up during critical tis!"
"..." Li Jie was speechless.
"Another reason is that I’m pretty scared of dying, heh, safety first. When there’s no other way, if I don’t go to Hell, who will? As all their attention is on you, the expert, naturally, it’s easier for to get close. You saw in the end, I used a helt to knock him unconscious." Li Yan joked casually.
After hearing this, Li Jie was a bit confused. Based on what he said, there was no reason to doubt his identity and capability. Maybe he was just calr, more rational, and smarter than ordinary people... Bah! Did he have that many qualities? More like cunning, sly, letting others do the hard work while he took advantage!
Seeing him follow her lead, Li Yan beca serious, "Comrade Li Jie, I admit as a bodyguard, you are very dedicated and professional. Your abilities and disguises indeed show you are excellent. But in modern society, in such unusual tis, I believe as a bodyguard, you need to use a bit more of this..."
Pointing to his head, Li Jie angrily said, "Are you saying I have no brains?"
"Of course not! You are clearly very wise."
"..." Li Jie sighed internally, thinking to follow his reasoning would an admitting having no brains. Jerk! Not worth paying attention to!
"My point is, a bodyguard should be fully responsible for the protection task, and this can easily be confused with being responsible to the employer’s orders. If the employer has a brain freeze and suggests so silly and naive idea, would you follow suit? For instance, sending Xiaodi to Celestial Continent to avoid trouble, obviously, that’s a foolish suggestion..." Li Yan stopped as he heard footsteps approaching.
Only this ti, they weren’t indoors, and the corridor wasn’t soundproof. Holding her daughter’s arm, Chen Mingying heard everything clearly, quickened her pace, and ca over with a cold face, saying, "Who are you calling foolish?"
Li Jie showed a schadenfreude expression with a posture of staying out of it, standing aside.
Yu Xiaodi was a bit embarrassed. She had just cried in her mother’s arms, and her tears weren’t dry yet, nowhere close to thinking about business. She didn’t expect Li Yan to start complaining to Li Jie here already.
Li Yan puffed out a smoke, smiling indifferently, "If this brilliant suggestion was made by Miss Chen, then clearly I’m calling you foolish.
"You...!"
Chen Mingying shook with rage. She had never held a good impression of Li Yan; tonight, because he arrived in ti and successfully persuaded her daughter to co out, she slightly revised her opinion. Yet, she never expected him to call her foolishly to her face! How could she, a dignified chairwoman of a public company, bear this?
Yu Xiaodi didn’t expect Li Yan to express his view this way either, and hurriedly tugged at her mother’s hand while trying to explain in a more tactful manner, "Mom... Li Yan also ans well for us but... but... Li Yan, say it properly!"
Being protected since childhood, with limited independent social experience, for a mont she couldn’t think of more. Seeing her anxious, Li Yan had to step in, "Are there no bad people in Celestial Continent? With ten thousand International Coins thrown in, you can hire a bunch of thugs..."
This shook Chen Mingying out of her anger. For an upper-class elite like her, often she only saw the positives of Celestial Continent in politics, culture, art, and civic virtue. Whether on a business trip or private tour, she engaged with its bright and beautiful aspects, never knowing the dark side that, although small, still existed in local slums? In movies, it seed like artistic exaggeration.
Listening to Li Yan now, she fell silent. (To be continued, for more Chapters, please log on to qidian and support the author, support legitimate reading!)
