"Then I won’t hold back!"

Zhang Yean playfully blinked her eyes and, as she turned, her ponytail drew an arc in the air.

As Zhang Yean left, the office fell into a brief silence.

In the corner, Wan and Mr. Fu were already dozing off, leaning against the chair backs.

The rising and falling snores were particularly noticeable in the quiet space.

Jiang An rubbed his throbbing temples, his gaze returning to the whiteboard.

His eyes scanned each key point in succession.

The intact door lock...

No signs of disturbance inside...

Drag marks beside the backyard well...

Sen traces inside the deceased...

Phlegm on the floor...

These fragnted clues constantly reassembled in his mind.

Suddenly, his pen drew a dashed line between "phlegm" and "sen."

"The third person..." Jiang An muttered to himself, pacing back and forth in the office.

The sound of leather shoes colliding with floor tiles was rhythmic, but his thoughts beca increasingly clear.

If a third person existed, why choose to appear at that ti?

Why wait until the man and woman were done before making a move?

More importantly—why cover the mouth?

"Mr. Jiang, got any leads?"

Mr. Fu had woken up at so point and was wiping his face with a wet tissue.

Wan also groggily lifted his head, with red marks from the chair back on his face.

Jiang An stopped walking and turned to the two n. "Look at autopsy report page 7."

His finger pointed to a spot on the whiteboard. "The deceased’s mouth has mucosal damage."

"But other than that, there’s no defensive wounds on the body."

Mr. Fu leaned in, frowning. "It’s certainly strange."

"If it was preditated murder, the killer should have been more prepared."

"I agree!"

Wan suddenly raised his voice and then quickly lowered it, "I an, preditated murderers usually bring tools, right?"

"Who goes to kill soone empty-handed?"

"That’s the issue."

Jiang An wrote the word "Preditated?" in large letters on the whiteboard.

"The killer used the victim’s family electric bike to transport the body, indicating they didn’t prepare a vehicle."

"Yet on the other hand..."

"There’s no sign of struggle at the scene, unlike typical cris of passion."

Then, Jiang An asked again, "Why use such a simple thod of killing and not cause tool damage?"

"Tool damage?"

Wan asked curiously.

Jiang An responded, "If it was preditated murder, wouldn’t the killer have prepared a murder weapon?"

"Moreover, analyzing the tool used post-murder for body transport."

"The tool used by the killer was actually the electric bike from the victim’s ho."

"Isn’t this act of using the victim’s electric bike inconsistent with preditated murder?"

Hearing Jiang An’s analysis, both Mr. Fu and Wan nodded in agreent.

"It does present a problem..."

Mr. Fu stroked the stubble on his chin.

The office was instantly enveloped in thoughtful silence.

Outside the window, the cicadas sang stridently, and the air conditioner vent emitted a faint humming sound.

Then, the two n’s eyes settled on Jiang An, hoping he would offer further analysis.

Jiang An continued, "Actually, based on the state of the body and the disposal site, neither supports preditated murder."

"What if the killer hadn’t initially intended to kill but was provoked by seeing sothing shocking..."

"You’re suggesting...sexual provocation?"

Wan’s eyes widened.

Jiang An nodded, drawing a question mark beside "sen."

"I suspect the killer initially didn’t co to kill."

"Upon seeing the man and woman in action, he had an extre emotional reaction."

His pen tip heavily pointed to the words "cover mouth."

"Could it be possible the culprit acted on sudden impulse?"

"Sudden impulse?"

This ti, the two were even more shocked.

For intentional harm leading to death, sudden impulse could be understandable.

For example, after a push and shove, emotions run high, leading to a violent brawl and accidental killing.

But this situation seed markedly different.

That night, there were no sounds of argunt, nor did the neighbors hear anything, making sudden impulse seem improbable.

At this point, Wan appeared particularly perplexed: "This is quite contradictory."

"It doesn’t appear to be preditated murder, but also not a spur-of-the-mont act."

"Who kills soone on impulse in such a situation?"

Just as the two were bewildered, Jiang An spoke up, "Actually, I have a rather bold idea."

"Is it possible the killer originally wasn’t there to kill?"

"Only when seeing the man and woman together did he suddenly decide to kill?"

After pondering for a while, Mr. Fu quickly clapped his hand.

"Could be!"

"That might actually provide a motive for murder."

"If so, then the direction of our investigation has a new path."

Hearing this, both Mr. Fu and Wan widened their eyes.

Although Jiang An’s view was initially hard to accept, on deeper thought, it did seem logical.

If anything could provoke soone to commit murder impulsively,

This was perhaps the only factor.

Jiang An nodded, "We cannot rule out this possibility."

"If the man deeply loved the woman, witnessing such a scene might ignite his latent murderous rage."

"Oh my!" Wan inserted his own imagination, "If I were the guy, that could very well be."

At this point, Mr. Fu remarked, "However, the preliminary investigation showed no other intimate relationships for the woman."

Jiang An retorted, "Not reflecting other intimate relationships only ans within the last two years."

"Could there be a past intimate relationship?"

Mr. Fu suddenly understood, "You’re right!"

"This woman’s conduct has been an issue for so ti; there might be undisclosed intimate ties."

The three of them fell into deep thought, each playing out this possibility in their minds.

After a long while, Wang suddenly slamd the table, "I see! If that’s the case, it explains why the killer lingered there."

"It was a process of internal struggle!"

"Exactly."

Then, Jiang An posed another critical question.

"If this hypothesis holds, then what was the killer’s original intention for lurking there?"

"If it wasn’t murder, then what else?"

This question plunged the three into another round of contemplation.

Jiang An continued his analysis, "If it was soone they knew, it would also explain the killer’s unobstructed entry."

"That clicks!"

"Everything clicks!"

A look of sudden clarity appeared on Jiang An’s face.

Wan and Mr. Fu nodded in understanding.

"I fully agree with Mr. Jiang’s analysis."

Jiang An turned his gaze back to the whiteboard, writing down the new direction for the investigation.

"Investigate all of the deceased’s male acquaintances, especially past lovers."

Suddenly, Wan gave Jiang An a thumbs-up.

"What an impressive analysis!"

"But, off-topic, how many girlfriends have you had?"

Jiang An smiled, "Would you believe if I said none?"

"No way!"

Wan grinned, "With such a vivid imagination, you’ve definitely had plenty of experiences."

"Honestly, I haven’t."

Jiang An shook his head, "Solving a case requires empathy; I just put myself in the mindset of the killer."

"Empathy..." Wan reflected, "I tried putting myself in the killer’s shoes earlier, and it did stir strong anger."

Just then, Zhang Yean hurriedly ran into the office.

"The DNA lab just called, saying the DNA from the phlegm doesn’t match any suspects."

To Zhang Yean’s surprise, the three n didn’t express disappointnt; instead, they exchanged knowing smiles.

Jiang An said, "No worries, we already have a new investigative direction."

"A new direction?"

Zhang Yean looked at the three n with serene expressions, puzzled, and asked, "Did I miss sothing?"

"Of course you missed sothing."

Wan laughed, "You missed a... rather heartbreaking deductive process."
