Capítulo 1256: Chapter 855: Dreaming

Zhang Zhiwen hadn’t been here for long. He arrived feeling quite heavy-hearted, but left with an even heavier heart. Aside from all the things he had been worried about coming true, Liu Hun handed him a big problem before he left.

The issue with Du Bai’s father was a predicant for him whether he handled it or not. But he had no reason to refuse Liu Hun’s request, which essentially served as an act of loyalty—a fact Zhang Zhiwen was well aware of—so ultimately, he had no choice but to escort Du Bai’s father away.

For Liu Hun, aside from gaining a helper, the greater benefit was to bolster his reputation. This ensured that while he was in Beijing, he would face fewer trivial disturbances, thereby saving Liu Hun a lot of ti.

Liu Hun didn’t concern himself with Zhang Zhiwen’s thods for dealing with Du Bai’s father. Du Bai’s father was escorted away by Zhang Zhiwen, and the evidence of his years of corruption and bribery had already been posted online by Xiao Wu. Therefore, Liu Hun wasn’t worried about Zhang Zhiwen releasing Du Bai’s father, as the matter was already set in stone, making any attempt at leniency impossible for Zhang Zhiwen.

So, Zhang Zhiwen was left to swallow this bitter fruit on his own, which ant that soon everyone would know Zhang Zhiwen was aligned with Liu Hun; this was the outco Liu Hun desired.

After Zhang Zhiwen and Du Bai’s father left, Liu Hun acted as if nothing had happened, returning to his room to continue cultivating, whereas Old Ghost had a sowhat strenuous night.

By the next morning, Liu Hun slowly opened his eyes. Just as he finished washing up, there was a knock on the door. Liu Hun put down his towel and got up to open the door.

As soon as the door opened, Liu Hun saw Old Ghost, sweating heavily. Despite it being winter—a season notably colder in the north compared to the south—being sweat-drenched in such weather wasn’t sothing ordinary.

“What happened? Why are you sweating after being out all night?” Liu Hun stepped aside, letting Old Ghost into the room before asking curiously.

Hearing this, Old Ghost didn’t imdiately answer Liu Hun. Instead, he poured himself a cup of hot water, gulped it down, took a few deep breaths, and then said to Liu Hun with a bitter smile, “I’ve been almost constantly on the move all night; I’m exhausted.”

“Any progress?” Liu Hun wasn’t concerned with what Old Ghost had been doing all night, only the results.

“I’ve gathered so information, but it might be troubleso.” Old Ghost hesitated slightly while glancing at Liu Hun, showing so reluctance.

Observing Old Ghost’s deanor, Liu Hun furrowed his brows slightly, instinctively sensing that this matter might not go smoothly. Regardless of the outco, Liu Hun could never abandon Ling ngyao.

“The Ling Family moved to Beijing a few months ago. Ling ngyao is now the deputy director at the Tax Bureau and still maintains a good relationship with the Ling Family. From what I’ve gathered, there was no coercion on her from leaving Shanghe Village to settling in Beijing, so…” Having finished speaking, Old Ghost looked at Liu Hun with evident worry.

Old Ghost understood what Ling ngyao ant to Liu Hun. If all this were Ling ngyao’s free choice, it ant she hadn’t contacted Liu Hun and that she had decided on her own.

“That’s impossible. I know well what the Ling Family was like back then, and there must be sothing wrong with ngyao’s sudden closeness to them. By the way, did you find anything about the mysterious girl?” Liu Hun shook his head adamantly.

In truth, Liu Hun sowhat believed Old Ghost’s account, suspecting Ling ngyao had her reasons. Still, he didn’t want to accept this reality from deep within.

If not for Ling ngyao, Liu Hun might not have chosen to co to Beijing. Not coming would have afforded him ample ti to slowly plan his revenge, but now, such plans seed unlikely, and potentially serious dangers awaited in his journey to Beijing.

“Are you referring to the girl nad Ling’er?” Old Ghost replied; however, seeing Liu Hun’s puzzled expression, he clarified, “The mysterious girl who accompanied Ling ngyao to Beijing. Ling ngyao nad her Ling’er, but she’s always quietly stayed by Ling ngyao’s side, going wherever she goes without any significant peculiarities.”

“Did you find out the Ling Family’s current whereabouts?” Liu Hun took a deep breath. Certain matters are inevitable and must be faced. Now that he’s in Beijing, regardless of the outco, Liu Hun would not shy away.

“That’s not a problem, but I worry the outco might not be favorable if we go there.” Old Ghost expressed his concerns to Liu Hun.

Upon hearing this, Liu Hun responded with a bitter smile, shook his head, and earnestly said to Old Ghost, “In this world, everyone has their own choices. We cannot dictate others’ choices; I only want to hear it directly.”

“Alright, I’ll wash my face first, then take you over.” Old Ghost nodded, refraining from further comnt, as Liu Hun seed resolved on this matter. Ultimately, it was a decision Liu Hun had to make; others couldn’t assist him much.

An hour later, Old Ghost, driving a rcedes he acquired the previous night, took Liu Hun and Wang Xiaofei directly to a quadrangle courtyard.

Upon arrival, Liu Hun stepped out of the car to look at the sowhat ancient courtyard before him. Owning such a courtyard in Beijing City would cost at least five million. Although the Ling Family could easily purchase it, Liu Hun doubted given the family’s condition back then they could afford such a lavish expense in Beijing.

Thus, the origins of this courtyard seed suspicious, given the Ling Family’s stronghold was in Huaihai Province. There was no reason for them to relocate to Beijing.

Taking a deep breath, Liu Hun did not deliberate further but adjusted his outfit slightly and approached the courtyard door to knock. After a while, the door was opened by a middle-aged woman dressed as a maid, who, upon seeing Liu Hun, Old Ghost, and Wang Xiaofei, hesitated slightly and asked, “May I know who you are looking for?”

“I’m looking for ngyao. Is she at ho?” Liu Hun said with a smile to the maid before him, while harboring an ominous feeling internally.

The Ling Family still had funds to hire a maid, which undoubtedly ant they experienced unknown events Liu Hun was unaware of.

“The young lady just went to work; she should return around noon…” The maid replied truthfully, glancing at the trio with doubt.

Those serving as maids in Beijing generally possess so discernnt. Given Liu Hun and the others’ appearance, she remained courteous; otherwise, she would have already dismissed them, considering several people recently attempted to pursue Ling ngyao, persistently disrupting them.

“Is that Liu Hun? Ms. Wu, let them in.” An elderly voice suddenly addressed the maid.

Upon hearing this, the maid appeared slightly bewildered but nodded and opened the gate, stepping aside.

Liu Hun hesitated little, promptly walking into the courtyard. As he entered, his gaze imdiately found a middle-aged man seated in a wheelchair.

This middle-aged man was Ling ngyao’s father. However, besides sitting in a wheelchair, his once black hair had turned grey while his face bore countless wrinkles, as if aging decades in just a few months.

“Wu Ma, please serve them so tea; they are guests.” Ling ngyao’s father’s fierce deanor had disappeared, replaced by old age and a gentle smile.

As he stared at the middle-aged man before him, Liu Hun furrowed his brow, uncertain of what had transpired within the Ling family recently, making Ling ngyao’s father’s condition seem unusually bizarre.

“I understand your purpose today. I once thought you would arrive sooner, but didn’t expect you only now, although it’s a bit late, it’s no problem. Sit down, I’m a cripple now and unable to offer much hospitality, so I ask for your indulgence.” Ling ngyao’s father said pleasantly to the trio.
