Honestly, the Death Metal Rose was nowhere near the top of his priority list, though it also wasn’t something he could just overlook either. It wasn’t that he was interested in giving it to Regix, but that his own life would bee a lot easier if he had a way to cleanse all kinds of curses.
Yet as long as there weren’t any leads, he could disregard it altogether, and instead focus on developing his necklace and increasing his immediate strength. Lex looked through the list of Dao materials once more and narrowed down the list to a few resources he felt like would help him a lot.
He could choose between maximising the number of Dao materials in the least time, or he could get the most suitable ones by sacrificing some time.
The decision wasn’t a big one at all. He chose quality over quantity, and made his pick. In less than an hour after returning to the stronghold, he was ready to set out again. Even if he had already chosen the materials he wanted, he would have had to return to the stronghold anyway for the waygates couldn’t connect to each other, only the stronghold. To go anywhere else, he would need to depart from here.
"You’re leaving already?" the black dragon asked, stunned by Lex’s swiftness. "Don’t you want to rest or recover after our last excursion? You couldn’t have healed pletely after the retribution - at least go to a hospital to get checked out."
Lex smiled softly, but shook his head.
"There’s no need, really," said Lex dismissing the concerns. "You can rest up and regrow your scales. That way, you can join me on my next trip."
The black dragon didn’t know how to respond, but he felt only great respect for Lex. It was exactly this kind of dedication that allowed one to surpass oneself.
"If you must go out, then wait a moment. There is someone I want to introduce to you - someone who also wants to venture out, and is pletely reliable as well. He will be able to help you on your journey, and make your travel speed much faster."
Lex raised an eyebrow. Considering that the travel time for him for each trip was in months and years, he didn’t mind waiting a few hours to meet a potential ally.
"You won’t need to wait long. I’ll summon him immediately, he’ll help you with whatever you need. He does have certain requirements of his own, though," said the black dragon as he quickly used something akin to a phone to call someone.
Since there was a wait involved, Lex decided to take a break after all and went to a waiting room and closed his eyes. While it seemed like he was taking a nap, he was actually overlooking the necklace while also reflecting on the news that Jack kept learning.
The universe was a mess. Returning and beating his stalker would no longer be good enough, because once he returned to the Midnight Inn he’d need to worry about protecting it and keeping it safe. While such a thing had always been difficult, Lex might as well look for some opportunities here for that while he could.
He opened his eyes and began going through the list of all resources. The Fortune stronghold had the most extensive catalog of treasures and their uses Lex had ever seen. In truth, it was probably the most extensive across the universe. Reading through it would not only increase his awareness, it could also provide him with certain solutions he’d never even considered.
Lex had not forgotten that he was connected to Lotus. While even now, he could not make use of its main ability, one day he’d get there. Once he reached that level, he could turn pure energy directly into valuable resources. It was like a living, breathing 3D printer for treasures.
Thus, if he could expose himself to rare and valuable treasures now, he’d know what they would be like and would be able to make them in the future himself.
There was no guarantee for this, but he believed that one day, he’d be able to do it.
It only took a few hours before the black dragon returned, and he brought with him a guest Lex had not been expecting to see at all.
It wasn’t that Lex was familiar with the person, but that he was familiar with the race!
It was a Blue Whale! A regular old Blue Whale, the kind that could be found on Earth!
Of course, over here, the Blue Whale had the cultivation level of a level 1 Celestial Immortal, and that was exceptionally impressive considering how mundane its race was!
Ordinarily, Beasts cultivated using their bloodlines, and the Blue Whale bloodline was quite normal, without any formidable ancestors, mainly because this was a sub-race of a sub-race. It was meant to remain a mortal and nothing more. Yet, perhaps due to the cultivation technique that relied on Fortune, this whale had challenged and changed its fate.
"I’ve told you before that there are very few who dare to leave the stronghold. Well, allow me the opportunity to introduce one of the most consistent excavationist of the stronghold. Over the years, no one has left the stronghold more than him. He has surpassed the limitations of his race through his own efforts, but has now finally hit a bottleneck that cannot be overe through mundane means."
Lex raised his eyebrow, and looked at the whale, studying it.
"Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Pelagor, and I walk the path of cultivation," the whale said, his tone lacking any arrogance, yet filled with self confidence as well. "Step by step, I have raised myself from my mortal roots, and my aim is to swim to the end of this cultivation path, and see for myself what horizons it will reveal. Yet upon this difficult journey, I have arrived at a hurdle I cannot cross alone. I have been told that... you may be able to help."
Lex looked from the whale towards the dragon. He had a feeling that this story was going to be a good one.
