The Innkeeper Chapter 2359: Was that even possible?

Pelagor was a fully grown, mature Blue Whale, but for this meeting he had naturally shrunk his size. Although he had, up until now, somehow retained his original race, he still wielded the might and abilities of a Celestial Immortal. Yes, he might not have unlocked any bloodline abilities as a Blue Whale, but he could make do without those.

After all, as far as Lex had seen, there was very limited conflict inside the Gilded Hollow owing to the existential crisis of retributions, and the laws of the stronghold. That made him wonder what Mithon had done to get exiled, but the thought was fleeting.

"Your resolve and acplishments are all quite admirable, Pelagor. I am Lex. Please, tell me, how can I help you? And how can you help me?" he asked, cutting right to the point.

Back in the early days of the Midnight Inn, Little Blue was stranded and helpless to move beyond the limits of the small lake Lex made for him. Thus, he got an upgrade where a pool of water would stay under him at all times and move with him, ’effectively’ allowing him to fly through the air - or, well, swim through it.

Pelagor as an Immortal did not need such a thing, but incidentally had opted for the same method of moving around.

"I have heard the tale of your journey, about your confrontation with the retribution, and how easily you were able to acquire the Dao materials. Although your cultivation level is lower than mine, there is no doubt about your capabilities. At this point in time, there is no one else I can approach who can help me. You see, there is a certain treasure that I need to take a step forward in my cultivation journey, but it is in an extremely dangerous location that cannot be reached easily. I myself have tried four times to reach it, but have failed."

Pelagor revealed a map to Lex, one that was incredibly detailed not just in landmarks or nearby treasures, but also the surrounding dangers.

"The item I seek is here, right on the border of the Dao lands, where the dangers reach the Dao level. While the item is not quite in that area itself, it is surrounded by Dao radiation, making it impossible for me or anyone else in the stronghold to actually reach it.

"I have tried. I really have tried everything, and have even appealed to the Fortune Lord himself, but the Fortune Lord has informed me that on the journey to greater fortunes, I have to rely on my own abilities, efforts, and personal network to succeed. I have tried. Over a hundred thousand years, I have tried, but I keep falling short. Now, your arrival, and your ability have given me hope once more."

Lex noticed that Pelagor was careful not to reveal the actual details of the item that he needed, but Lex didn’t mind. The two of them had just met, and trust was something that would take time to build - if they decided to work together at all.

"I realize that what I am asking from you is quite a lot, and so I am willing to similarly pay such a great price. Or, at least, I am willing to pay whatever it is that I can. If I can get my hands on that item, then I will be able to continue my cultivation journey towards the Dao Lord realm.

"If you help me acquire that item, then I will swear to serve you for one hundred thousand years - the same amount of time I have sought out this item. The difference will be that I will be much stronger than I am now, with much greater potential to serve and assist you in your endeavors."

Pelagor paused and looked at Lex, who had still not revealed even the slightest hint of his inner thoughts.

"Such an offer may or may not entice you, but to show my sincerity, as well as to demonstrate my strength, ability, and willingness to serve, I can acpany you on your next journey outwards. That way, you can test my abilities first hand, and decide for yourself whether I am worth the investment, and the risk."

pared to the people Lex was used to being around, Pelagor was a lot more strict, rigid and straightforward. He had a serious and solemn personality, which was a huge change from his workers at the Inn who always hid a hint of mischievousness deep within them.

That wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, and Lex was willing to give Pelagor a chance. There was, however, one issue.

"I don’t know what you have heard, but even I am not immune to Dao radiation. I can, at most, barely tolerate the weakest form of it for a few seconds. Retrieving your treasure is beyond my current abilities," Lex said outright, not giving Pelagor any false hope.

Yet, unexpectedly, hearing such a thing seemed to put him at ease instead of trouble him.

"Yes, I have already expected such a thing. My preparations over the past hundred millenia are exceptionally thorough. I have heard that you are willing to absorb Dao material into your being to strengthen yourself. If that is the case, I can guide you towards certain materials which will help you better tolerate Dao radiation. Tell me, are you familiar with Primordial aura?"

Now it was Lex’s turn to be surprised. He wasn’t aware that there were things which could help tolerate Dao aura, though the universe was vast so it made sense that such things existed. The question was, what did that have to do with Primordial aura?

"I am, yes. What does that have anything to do with resisting Dao aura?" Lex asked, hiding his own curiosity. To others, it might not be such a big deal, but Lex had already attained perfect Primordial aura. It was just not evident to others because he mixed it and hid it within his Domination. In fact, he himself could very loosely be categorized as a Primordial human!

"I have with me a container filled with Primordial energy," told Pelagor. "On its own that might not help you resist Dao aura, but I happen to also know about the location of a Dao material which can be safe to use as long as it is controlled with Primordial energy. With that, ambient Dao radiation - the kind that is unleashed passively or without any intent - can be converted into Primordial aura, and thus be tolerated..."

Lex suddenly sat up straight and sealed Pelargor’s mouth! He turned around to look behind him, but he saw nothing. Yet through his instincts he had momentarily felt the shadow of a certain spider behind him, if she could be called that at all.

Had he, somehow, attracted the attention of the owner of the Primordial Garden? All the way here, inside the Gilded Hollow? Was that even possible?
