Wind City was one of the five Outer Cities of Trolian.
These so-called Outer Cities lie beyond the influence of Trolian, standing isolated in the Dark World. Beyond their walls lay the endless Black Fog and countless powerful monsters lurking in the darkness.
When the city fell, it was the end for its inhabitants.
Due to their harsh environntal conditions, the five remaining Outer Cities each held special value.
Beneath Wind City lay abundant stores of Spirit Crystal Ore, from which more than half of Trolian’s Spiritual Crystals were sourced.
Supporting Wind City was supposed to be a crucial mission.
However, Rod was quite disappointed to find that there were no indications on Star Square.
This ant that this support mission lacked even a hint of Divinity.
Could it be that the importance of the battle at Starry Sky City completely overwheld other regions’ threats?
Rod found this hard to believe, but he still chose to proceed, even without inquiring about more information.
Traveling to Outer Cities was only possible through Trolian’s exclusive Spiritual Power Airships, which followed a relatively safe flight path to ensure contact and transport of goods between the Outer City and the Royal City.
Its speed was quite high, and Rod soon arrived at Wind City.
Under the dense Black Fog, the faint lights of the city were almost subrged, the towering city walls pockmarked with damage and huge bed crossbows nearly destroyed. The Spiritual Power Cannons lay silent in the fog, evidently also out of commission.
Yet, the atmosphere inside the city did not seem very tense.
A tall Knight welcod him.
"Hello, Lord Rod."
He bowed to Rod with considerable politeness.
"I am Kaiso Nightwind, Captain of the Guard to Sir Arlan, the First Knight."
Rod exclaid in surprise, "Arlan? Sir Arlan is in charge of defending Wind City?"
Kaiso bowed slightly, "Yes, please follow , Sir Arlan needs your assistance."
Rod suddenly felt excited. This legendary strongest man of Trolian, whom he had long heard of but unfortunately had very few interactions with, having t just a few tis before.
Now, I finally had the opportunity to fight alongside him.
Heh heh, and to think I had beco so strong without even realizing it.
Happy and proud, Rod followed Captain Kaiso’s steps into the castle hall.
"Sir Arlan!"
Kaiso pushed open the doors, bowing respectfully as he spoke.
"As you wished, Lord Rod has arrived."
In the hall, Arlan sat quietly on a long bench, his eyes closed, his black hair falling over his forehead, his expression serene and gentle, yet the aura of conquest and slaughter around his eyes remained unabated.
Hearing Kaiso’s call, he opened his eyes and, seeing Rod at the door, said,
"Hello, young Rod."
His smile was gentle, his eyes calm as if holding light.
"We et again."
Rod felt a bit odd, given that they had barely t a few tis, yet Arlan’s tone was very familiar, as if they were old friends.
Kaiso coughed once and said solemnly, "Lord Rod, this is the Great Knight Captain, the mightiest warrior of Trolian, the hero of humanity, the towering pillar of the Fire Hall, Sir Arlan Testrant, the First Knight!"
Then he turned his head respectfully and said, "Sir Arlan, here is Trolian’s hero, this year’s brightest rising star, the ’Black Bucket’ Rod."
Rod’s mouth twitched slightly; the discrepancy in grandeur was not slight. Had it not been for the risk of leaking secrets from the Dream Realm and causing further disturbances, he would have changed this embarrassing nickna long ago.
There was a hint of amusent in Arlan’s eyes as he spoke warmly, "Young Rod, don’t mind it. When you beco a hero of humanity, you will be free to redefine the aning of ’Bucket’ in a way that will shine unimaginably bright through history, perhaps even becoming the supre glory of future leaders. The mightiest among humans might carry titles like ’Fire Bucket,’ ’First Bucket,’ ’Starlight Bucket,’ or even ’Bucket King.’"
The scene was so comical that Rod nearly burst out laughing.
It dissipated the initial awkwardness of their first eting.
Inside his mind, the Book of Knowledge suddenly lanted, "This human is very strong; I sense the overwhelming power within his soul. He is not just any warrior; among the brilliant stars of humanity in the Fire Epoch, he stands out."
The Book of the Future exclaid, "Is this the mightiest of the present humans? They don’t seem very weak, do they?"
Asa humd sinisterly, "What a pity, just one step more, and I could have toppled this human pillar."
The Book of the Future suddenly ca to its senses, "The one you asked to curse was this kind of person? Have you lost your mind eating too much crap? Can’t you see his extraordinary powerful soul? Can’t you pick a more normal target? No wonder I keep failing and breaking; it’s all because of you, a useless scrap ruining my great future!"
Asa exploded imdiately, "Nonsense! You idiotic foolish book! You know nothing! My plan was flawless, it would never have failed if you hadn’t been overly cautious, refusing to give it your all; it was about to succeed at that mont!"
The Book of the Future raged, "Stop flattering yourself; when have you ever succeeded?"
Asa replied with a cold sneer, "Pointless to say more, don’t forget our wager. I’ll prove a worthless scrap is just that—a scrap; having a different master won’t lead to success. The great evil spirit will eventually ascend to his throne!"
