The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me? Chapter 151: The Queen Who Embarrassed
"Greetings, Your Majesty."
A young man with jet-black hair and light brown eyes greeted Edmund and Ruby the mont they stepped into the main hall.
He was Cassian Moonshadow, the Marquess’s eldest son.
Despite being only seventeen, Cassian was already trusted with many responsibilities, especially those related to diplomacy and formal matters.
From what Primrose knew, the Marquess and his wife had three children—two sons and one daughter. But strangely, their daughter had never once appeared in public, not even during banquets held at their own house.
In fact, Solene had once ntioned that the Marquess rarely even spoke about his daughter, as if she didn’t exist at all.
With that kind of behavior, Primrose could easily guess the Marquess held very little regard for won, seeing them as beneath him and unworthy of attention or status.
"Did your father send you to greet ?" Edmund asked calmly. "The Marquess seems impressively quick at getting information."
Cassian offered a warm, polite smile. "That’s all thanks to the guard at the gate. If he hadn’t reported it to my father right away, we might not have known you’d arrived."
He paused for a mont, then asked respectfully, "But, Your Majesty ... may I ask what brings you to our city?"
Edmund responded in a flat, cold tone. "Is my wife and I not allowed to visit this city?"
Cassian’s face stiffened in panic. He realized too late that his question might have co off as offensive to the King of Beasts.
He quickly added, "No! That’s not what I ant, Your Majesty. We were simply surprised. This is the first ti you’ve visited without notifying us in advance."
Primrose, listening quietly beside her husband, caught the boy’s thoughts loud and clear.
[His Majesty did nothing wrong by arriving unannounced. The only one panicking is that old bastard because he hasn’t prepared anything to hide his rotten behavior in front of His Majesty.]
Despite his warm smile and friendly tone, Cassian’s mind was full of frustration and darker thoughts.
[But really, who the hell is to bla here? If only he had done his job properly, he wouldn’t be panicking every ti His Majesty decides to visit.]
[I really hope that old bastard dies quickly. I can’t even understand why Mother wanted to marry him in the first place.]
Before Edmund could say anything or ntion that Primrose wanted to et Raven, she stepped forward with a smile.
"This is actually my fault," she said sweetly, her voice gentle as silk. "I was getting a little bored at the palace, so I asked my husband to take sowhere quiet and lovely for a short vacation."
She glanced around the hall before continuing, "Coincidentally, I’ve heard so many wonderful things from my maids about Moonshadow."
"They say it’s one of the top destinations for nobles looking to escape their stress, so we decided to co here without sending a letter to the Marquess first."
She lowered her head slightly, offering a graceful and respectful bow. "I truly apologize if our sudden arrival made you or your family feel disrespected in any way."
Cassian was montarily taken aback by the sound of her voice.
[I didn’t expect Her Majesty’s voice to be this soft and gentle ...]
[My mother has told the queen is a beautiful woman with a graceful deanor, but she’s even more stunning than I imagined!]
"Please, there’s no need to apologize, Your Majesty," Cassian said, his smile softening as he spoke to her. "We’re honestly honored that you chose our humble city for your honeymoon."
Primrose blinked in surprise.
She had clearly said she wanted a short vacation with her husband, so why would he suddenly use the word honeymoon?
Ever since Edmund had explained the aning of honeymoon in this kingdom, she couldn’t help but feel flustered and embarrassed every ti she heard that word.
But ... Cassian was only seventeen. He probably didn’t fully understand what the word honeymoon could imply.
Besides, his mother was human, so chances were, he saw it the sa way she did, purely as a romantic trip, nothing more.
[Should I recomnd an inn with soundproof rooms for them?] Cassian wondered. [But ... could Her Majesty even handle His Majesty?]
Why was he even thinking about that?! Who in the world had taught this boy things like that?
Then again, it wasn’t as if Primrose herself was completely innocent.
She’d learned about such things from those scandalous romance novels even before her debutante.
If she, a sheltered noblewoman, knew about it, of course a curious young man like Cassian would too.
Let’s just pretend that the whole train of thought never happened.
"If you’d like, Your Majesty, I’d be happy to recomnd a place that’s perfect for a honeymoon," Cassian offered politely, keeping his tone light.
Edmund shook his head. "No need. This place is more than enough for us. We’re hoping to explore the city a bit while we’re here."
Cassian tilted his head slightly, thinking, [Ah, so they won’t be spending their honeymoon in ... a beastly way.]
Please. Just stop.
Primrose, who caught the awkward energy, desperately wished she could disappear into thin air.
If there were a river nearby, she might’ve jumped in just to cool her blushing cheeks.
She quickly cleared her throat, and shifted the topic before it spiraled any further. "Actually, while we’re here, I was hoping to et the Marchioness. Would you be kind enough to pass along a ssage and ask if she might see tomorrow?"
Cassian’s smile faltered slightly, but he managed to hold it in place, though now thinner and more strained.
[Mother hasn’t wanted to see anyone lately ... But maybe if she ets Her Majesty, even just for a little while, it might make her feel better.]
What had really happened to her?
Had the Marquess done sothing to his wife, sothing so cruel that she no longer wished to face the world?
"I’d be honored to deliver your ssage, Your Majesty," Cassian said gently. "But ... my mother hasn’t been feeling well lately. If it’s not too much trouble, perhaps ... you could visit her at our ho instead?"
[Please say yes,] he thought desperately. It would be so much easier for Mother to et soone if Her Majesty ca to the house.]
Without a second thought, Primrose nodded. "Of course. Then please let the Marquess and Marchioness know that we’ll be visiting their ho tomorrow afternoon."
The corner of Cassian’s lips lifted into a genuine smile, one that truly reflected the happiness in his heart.
"We’ll be looking forward to your visit, Your Majesty," he said with gratitude.
