What is heartache?
Qin Fan had forgotten.
In those five hundred years of the Cangqiong era, he had long since forgotten what heartache felt like. In those years, he had no family; to him, there were only enemies. On a long and frenzied path of slaughter, his Dao Heart, which should have been aid at Ascension, gradually twisted into a Demon Heart. But the trigger was not his own heaven-defying power in this life. It was Xu Jiayi—that tiny butterfly flapping its wings over the Pacific Ocean.
In this mont, Qin Fan's face twisted into the most sinister ferocity he had shown since his rebirth. The murderous intent radiating from him was even more intense than when he had faced any of his previous enemies.
"Xu Jiayi! You're fucking asking for death!"
Unwilling to lose his composure entirely and reveal his savage side while Jiang Yino was near, Qin Fan painfully squeezed the words through his clenched teeth. His killing intent surged and his expression turned savage as his aura pulsed out in powerful waves. If not for Jiang Yino, he was certain he would have already torn Xu Jiayi to shreds. He was filled with regret. He regretted letting that nace live this long.
If he couldn't begin his chapter of love with Jiang Yino in this life, what would beco of him? He didn't know, but he was certain he would go mad. The Dao Heart that yearned for Ascension would once again beco the heart of a Demon.
As his ferocious whisper died out, he violently swung his arm through the air and then stomped his foot hard on the ground.
BOOM!
With that single stomp, the ground within a ten-ter radius spiderwebbed with cracks.
CRACK!
Imdiately after, in the direction of his swing, the nearby trees snapped with a sharp crack and ca crashing down.
"Xu Jiayi, I shouldn't have let you remain in this world two months ago!" His ferocious expression lted into a cold sneer. Staring in the direction the two had vanished, he spoke again, his voice laced with pain.
Three breaths later, he finally turned. A desolate figure, he walked back toward the n's dormitory. He chose not to follow and explain himself to Jiang Yino; centuries of experience told him it would only be counterproductive.
As Qin Fan departed from the woods, dejected and heartbroken…
「Inside an apartnt on campus.」
Miao Haohao was toying with a blood-red Gu of unknown origin. A war movie played on the television across from him, but he was lost in a gloomy, brooding state. After a mont, he released the Gu. It instinctively tried to burrow into his body.
"Don't! Jianjia doesn't like your aura," Miao Haohao chided in a cold, dark tone. As if it understood human speech, the blood-red Gu changed direction, quickly crawled off his arm, and scurried into a slender bamboo tube nearby.
He let out a deep breath, but the ominous look on his face did not fade. In fact, it grew more intense. He picked up his phone and dialed an unsaved number. The mont the other end connected, he got straight to the point. "Co to Jinling. There's a freshman at Jinling University nad Qin Fan. I don't want him to live. I don't care how you do it; I'm only giving you three days."
"What about my brother?" a female voice replied. Was she being asked to fly to Jinling to deal with a freshman? Was that really a task for her?
"He's most likely dead," Miao Haohao stated evenly.
"Dead?" the voice exclaid. "How did he die?"
"I don't know. I sent him to deal with this freshman last night, but he still hasn't returned. I can no longer sense his Lifebound Gu. All things considered, he's probably dead, and his death is likely related to that freshman. So, in a way, you wouldn't just be killing for . You'd also be avenging your brother. Co to Jinling. Get rid of him."
A silence of several seconds followed his words. Seven seconds later, the call ended with a BEEP.
But Miao Haohao smiled. He knew she had agreed.
"Qin Fan, is it? I really hate how brightly you shine. I hate your interactions with Jianjia even more. So, enjoy what little ti you have left," he muttered with a sinister smile. Standing up from the sofa with his hands behind his back, he turned to face the faint city lights outside the window.
「Girls' Dormitory—Building H, Room 308.」
"Yinuo, Jiayi, what happened to you two?" Du Ruanqing and Ou Mingsi stared in shock the mont Jiang Yino helped Xu Jiayi into the room.
"It's nothing worth ntioning," Jiang Yino said, shaking her head after a brief pause. "Ruanqin, can you get the first-aid kit from my cabinet? There's a bottle of my secret-recipe linint for bruises inside. I'll put so on Jiayi."
"Oh, okay! Right away!" Du Ruanqing replied hurriedly and rushed to the cabinet.
"Jiayi, did you fall?" Ou Mingsi couldn't help but ask, noticing the dirt and grass clippings on Xu Jiayi's beautiful legs.
"Yes. It's nothing, I just tripped and fell," Xu Jiayi replied with a gentle and graceful smile. She paused, then turned her head and said sowhat sheepishly to Jiang Yino, "Yinuo, I'm sorry."
Only she knew the true weight of that apology. Reason scread at her to confess to Jiang Yino, but that sliver of rationality was swept away by her own impulsive Heart Demon. If I confess, I, Xu Jiayi, will be forced to exit this ga. And quit? That's not my style! I can't do it!
But she had ignored a truth tested by the ages: whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.
In this emotional ga of three, Jiang Yino was still an outsider, but Xu Jiayi had already descended into madness. She believed n were always soft-hearted creatures who could be moved. She could never have imagined that Qin Fan's compassion, his soft heart, had already died during those thirty years in his previous life.
In Qin Fan's mind, Xu Jiayi had already been judged. She didn't qualify to be a lover, or even the most casual of friends.
PS: To all my dear readers, please don't complain about the update speed. Lately, there have been at least four chapters a day, and it will likely stay that way for the next ten days. But please rest assured, there will be a mass release around the 20th of the month, with at least twenty chapters guaranteed.
