Capítulo 1256: Chapter 154: Gottingen School_3

Although Arthur’s words were not long, they indeed sounded quite uplifting.

Herbart thought for a mont, and what the academic director said was not entirely without reason.

The University of Gottingen was not modest; if Germany’s natural philosophy community had one shilling, Gottingen would deserve eight pennies. And in individual fields like mathematics, Gottingen even more so could overshadow the entire German mathematics community with just one person, Gauss.

More importantly, Gottingen’s advantage in the field of electromagnetism is no smaller than in mathematics.

In electromagnetism, besides Gauss and the academic director himself, there is also William Weber and others.

Moreover, even Mr. Charles Wheatstone recently helped the Observatory set up a telegraph line and received the honorary professor title from the University of Gottingen.

Feeling reassured, Herbart finally made up his mind, stood up and said, “Since you have considered everything so thoroughly, I think I have no reason to stop you. Rest assured, I will explain your intention clearly to the other mbers of the academic committee.”

Just as Herbart stood up, he heard a rapid pounding at the door outside.

Followed by a familiar voice: “Professor Hastings, I have an important situation to report!”

Herbart turned around and opened the door, and Bismarck, who was pounding at the door, accidentally struck the chest of the old man, almost knocking him off balance.

Bismarck realized who he had struck, and imdiately shivered in fright.

It’s to be known, Herbart not only was the dean of the Philosophy College, but also the chairman of the Student Council’s disciplinary committee.

For an instant, the Prussian tradition of respecting the elderly and loving the young flashed in Bismarck’s mind.

He rushed forward to support Herbart: “Dean, are you alright?”

Herbart glared at him displeased, gently rubbing his chest, stood up and said, “Bismarck, you should really change your temper! You do not resemble a Student Council president, nor an excellent lawyer. When you graduate, do you plan to fight in court with your fists?”

Bismarck stood with his head hung low, receiving the lecture: “Sorry, professor. But I never intended to be a lawyer; I wanted to be a judge.”

“So in Prussian courts, judges can beat suspects?”

Herbart glanced at this notorious problematic student, shook his head in anger, and then turned to leave.

Bismarck saw Herbart had walked away, before rushing to Arthur’s desk in a fluster to report: “Professor, soone’s dead!”

“Hmm?” Arthur was about to sip his tea but was startled by Bismarck’s words, almost spilling it on his robe: “Where is soone dead?”

“At the dical School!” Bismarck’s face was flushed with urgency.

Arthur had just stood up but quickly sat back down, scrutinizing Bismarck with suspicion: “Otto, you aren’t telling there’s been a death in the obstetrics departnt of the dical School, are you?”

At this ti, although all sorts of specialized hospitals had erged in large cities, places like Gottingen, a small town, couldn’t support a decent large hospital. Therefore, the best hospital in town was the dical school of the University of Gottingen. Citizens would co to the dical School for treatnt now and then, and among the patients, there naturally were so requiring childbirth.

But obviously, Bismarck wasn’t here to joke with Arthur today; he urgently urged: “You’ve overimagined ! I’m not joking with you; there’s a doctoral student who attempted suicide with a handgun in the plaza, just happened to be spotted by a passerby, and they began struggling for the gun. During the struggle, the gun accidentally discharged, unfortunately hitting his cheek, and the doctoral student imdiately fell unconscious. After we discovered, we hurriedly sent him to the dical School for ergency treatnt. Professor John Blunbach, the dean of the dical School, is personally performing the surgery, you should quickly go and have a look!”
